  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

In the Name of the Trinity, may we beseech the Spirit that He might take our silence and give it voice.

Lord Holy Spirit, You are promised to those who trust in Christ. I struggle and hurt and fail. I lack words in moments of silence I don't understand. My heart aches for others. My heart hurts because there are those whom I cannot know. Take my voiceless words and groanings and transform them into sweet smelling incense before the Father. Take very pain and make it a prayer, take every sorrow and make it a song. Give me words to speak, give me silence when I cannot speak. You bring us through death into life because of Christ; and as we stand ever before death's door, let us never cease to pray and to hope and to believe that the God who sent His Son, looks down on us with unfathomable love--to cradle us in His arms, and constantly bring us relief from the grief and sorrow of this world. Bend us and break us, that we might look ever more like God's Son. Humble us, and give us courage. Give boldness where it is right; give us smallness when we try in our own power. Teach us to love. Teach us to be faithful. Take every weary prayer and give it sweetness. In the Name of the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit. One God, ever and always. Amen.
