  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

1.) The hyperbole was that they’d have to shutter airports, not that there are long lines.

2.) Your photos aren’t even recent. They’re from 2024:

and 2016:

3.) Denver and O’Hare are not “small” airports.

So, I don’t know what it is you think you’re proving here.

The US is in a partial government shutdown affecting the Department of Homeland Security, which is now in its 35th day. About 50,000 TSA airport security officers have been working without pay, and around 10% of them have been failing to show up for duty. CNBC

U.S. says it may be forced to shut down some airports over funding standoff

Major hubs are struggling too — Callout rates have spiked nationwide, with the highest single-day airport callout rate reaching 55% at Houston Hobby International Airport on March 14. Callouts also spiked over 30% in New Orleans and Atlanta.

Homeland Security DHS reported that 366 TSA officers have quit their jobs since the shutdown began in February. Time

TSA Official Warns ‘We May Have to Quite Literally Shut Down Airports’ If DHS Shutdown Stretches On

TSA is out of backup options — Stahl said TSA has "fully depleted" its national deployment reserve forces, meaning there's little cushion left to cover staffing gaps

What it means for travelers — Most airports now advise travelers to arrive at least three hours early, even for domestic departures. Flights are still operating and airlines haven't broadly canceled schedules tied to the shutdown yet, but the bigger risk is missing your flight due to security delays.

Some US airports may close soon because of the government shutdown

"I will move our brilliant and patriotic ICE Agents to the Airports where they will do Security like no one has ever seen before"

Transportation Secretary Duffy says ICE agents are trained and can assist TSA at airports

Duffy's statement comes after the president said ICE would go to airports Monday

"Is there a plan in place? I mean, how many ICE agents are we talking about? Do they have any practical experience in manning airport security lines?," Karl asked.

"Sure. Well, you -- they run those same type of security machines at the southern border, right? Packages come through or people come through. They run similar assets," Duffy said. "To manage the through flow of people and even administratively they'll be helpful. But again, we have ICE agents who are trained and can provide assistance to agents."

I can't wait for air passengers to be treated like people at the border.

United Airlines CEO Scott Kirby told employees the airline was planning for oil to reach $175 per barrel. Oil is currently nearing $100 per barrel. Duffy said despite the rising cost, major airline carriers told him they have enough jet fuel supply.

That the Obama and Biden regimes had worse management of airports than the Trump Presidency?

....sure. The presence of ICE in airports is only going to agitate the flying public more and complicate the work of TSA agents.

An unpaid TSA agent shows up to work on Monday and is tasked with training a paid ICE agent on x equipment or process. Yea, that's going to go over real well.

That sounds like Border Patrol rather than ICE.

Personally I think having ICE run security machines is going to slow TSA down even further. Whenever another worker who is sparsely trained or not trained at all in doing what the work requires, what usually happens in that everyday worker has to stop what they are doing to help that new worker out.

I am sure it will also build morale among the unpaid TSA personnel having to train/deal with ICE agents who are reviving pay checks.

Now that I think about it, ICE does not run the security screens at borders.
Border Patrol does that.
ICE does not work the borders.
They do not run security machines at the borders.
Someone correct me if I am wrong.

Sec Duffy should do something then. Seems like airports are his problem.

They have ICE thugs milling around now, thought that was supposed to fix things?

Trump rejects John Thune's DHS funding proposal to end shutdown: Report

"'President Donald Trump reportedly turned down a proposal by Senate Majority Leader John Thune (R-S.D.) on Sunday to end the partial government shutdown that has caused chaos at airports across the country. Thune’s proposal would have had Senate Republicans vote to fund all of the Department of Homeland Security except for U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, according to Punchbowl News.
Thune said funding for ICE could be approved in a later reconciliation bill, but, according to Punchbowl’s report, Trump rejected the idea and also threatened to publicly call out GOP senators if they left Washington, D.C., for the upcoming recess without having passed DHS funding and his SAVE America Act, a sweeping bill that would require people to show proof of citizenship when registering to vote, among other things.""
