  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

It is illegal in the united states to discriminate against someone because of their religion, right?

I mean, that is what I have always heard. Fortunately, I do live in the U.S. where this law applies.

Now, I'm no lawyer or expert in the law (not even for laws of my own country) but I have seen sheets of paper in the past when I have applied for employment and on there it does cite this law, that employers cannot discriminate against their employees based upon their religion. Or their race, gender, origin, etc. etc. etc. for that matter.

I am actually relieved to have this law around here in the U.S. Otherwise, I think us saints would be in a bad way: we would be hunted and killed all the time by evil people and we would have to try and do something about it. Defend ourselves maybe? :sorry:

With this our churches are essentially protected and upheld by the law.

Years ago my mom worked a job when I was very little. An employee at her work did try to get her fired because she was a Christian, and I think my mom should have done something about that. Stood up to her maybe legally? I know this was religious persecution and a violation of the law. But unfortunately mom got fired and she had to look for employment elsewhere. I kind of wish she had sued that lady for wrongful termination and religious discrimination. But she didn't want any trouble I remember.

Have you guys ever heard of something like that happening anywhere? I mean, here in the U.S.? Its unheard of. Maybe in other countries its common, but not here!

I think it depends on the context. If one is discussing about discriminating against a potential employee, then you can’t discriminate. If it has to do with picking your future spouse, you can discriminate. If you are a church, looking to hire a pastor, you can discriminate.

Employers aren't supposed to discriminate, but they do it anyway.

A manager at a job years ago tried to start an argument with me because of my Christian beliefs. I'm glad I don't work at that place anymore.

Yeah, it's too bad that this kind of thing happens sometimes. And believe me, it does happen.

Just think if you and I lived in another country? We wouldn't have these legal protections on us, and we might be harassed or even killed for our beliefs. Its sad how evil mankind is.

Take witches for example. Now, you and I are not witches/wizards. I don't even know magic. But they were once burned at the stake too for their beliefs. Its sad. :(

I think every religion ever invented has suffered some form of persecution or another. Us Christians especially. I know the Muslims think its OK to murder both Christians and Jews. I think that mentality is disgusting. Ever heard of Antisemitism?

(Man, I hate being serious)
