  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Yes. For example, most historians ( who have the perspective of history) rate him poorly, but not as the worst. He usually beats out Buchanan and Pierce.
I think without the "war of choice" (Iraq) he'd probably make the lower part of the middle. We've had a *lot* of mediocre presidents. There is a reason so many were single term in the antebellum period.
Bush had the advantage of being a genuinely friendly person who didn't mind laughing at himself. One wall in his presidential library is covered in a cartoon, showing him trying to convince a park service ranger to let him put his bust up on Mt. Rushmore. People forgive a lot if the president isn't insecure and arrogant.
I also had respect for his physics game:

One of my students told me her grandparents live across the street from G.W. Bush. There was a medical emergency, and Bush came across the street and stayed with them until the EMTs got there.

You think things like that will every be said of Donald Trump?
Of course not.

We don’t even have to imagine.

I was speaking of Trump. He usually comes in third from last. George W. Bush ranks about 22nd. So about where you figured.

I see. That makes sense. Trump isn't even in the top 50 presidents.

That's not how tax cuts work. Less taxes = less revenue. With no changes in spending that results in deficits go up.
Incorrect. History shows that when you lower federal tax rates, the GDP grows, income rises and the total amount of federal income tax revenue increases.

"In the new survey, Trump was hit hard when compared to President Joe Biden. When asked who did a better job, 48% said Biden — and 40% chose Trump."

Yeah that wouldn’t surprise me since the largest demographic that he’s targeted for deportation are predominantly conservative. As I expected his plan to deport illegal immigrants so they “can’t shift the balance in political parties in the democrats favor” is going to backfire by enraging said demographic and making them more likely to vote democratic in future election. If he had just stuck to what he originally proposed which was getting rid of the dangerous criminals it most likely wouldn’t have become a problem for future republican candidates.

I’m talking about her results in ‘24 compared to Trump in 2020. Trump lost by a wider margin in 2020 than Harris lost to him in 2024.
It was a wider margin because Biden somehow managed to get several million more votes then anyone has.

This was actually tried in Kansas. It was announced with great fanfare as "The Kansas Experiment" Gov. Brownback called it "a shot of adrenaline for Kansas." Turned out more like an overdose of heroin.

Hence the debt of $38T (and rising).
The national debt is not rising way too high because of lack of federal revenue. The national debt is far too high because politicians in both parties have been unwilling for decades to significantly CUT and REDUCE spending.

The Laffer curve is a cocktail napkin doodle with no evidence behind it. It was always a fantasy.
In your opinion it was always a fantasy.

History and facts show otherwise.
See above. It was actually tried out in Kansas. With Laffer advising. It was a disaster to the point that the republican-led legislature had an intervention to stop it.
