  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I'm not surprised at all by the extreme progressive left wing liberal spin that you have appeared to place on those events.

Yeah, that's it.

I'm a middle-aged, middle-class, white-collar professional whose career requires him to examine global economic and political events, understand their consequences and then assess their impacts.

What, exactly, was "extreme", "progressive", "left-wing" or "liberal" about anything I wrote? To the best of my ability, that series of statements was written without political spin.

Responding to facts with opinion is weak sauce.

On the other hand, I am thankful to my Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ for all the great things that have happened in this past year which reversed the each and every one of the failures of the Biden administration.
Biden was President for four years and must not have been so bad if everything was fixed in 13 months under Trump.

I praise God that America has a President who is restoring the USA to greatness after we endured some of the worst 4 years in our modern history under the Biden administration.
You make it sound like Biden put puppies into a blender.

He just said he introduced a healthcare plan. Anyone have a link for that?
Since I spent the speech in the Mirror Universe, can I just presume it will involve free visits to the Agony Booth:

Biden was the very worst president in modern American history.

I have no doubt that you believe this with all of your might.
(Would Harris have been better or worse, do you think? Why?)

Those views from those countries concerning how well they see the Chinese communist leader and the Russian dictator and the North Korea dictator show the people in Australia, Canada and South Korea who believe that in a very bad light. In my opinion.
Trump makes those countries look better, than Trump. The problem is Trump screwing up America. And starting trouble with countries, that aren't a threat with America. America/ Trump should focus on American need. And not phony stuff in other countries.

So now I have been starting to read the transcript (https://www.nytimes.com/2026/02/25/us/politics/state-of-the-union-transcript-trump.html). How can it be acceptable to just make things up as holder of the highest office in the US? The inflation was not at record levels when he took office. The last point in the graph is for 2024, 2.9% can't be called record levels. Or if it can I'm interesting to know by what criteria.

Is he just as sloppy with other economic data?

Yes, he is. It is hard to call a real GDP growth of 2.2% "roaring". In fact it is seems to be lower than for any year for Biden's "stagnant" economy.

....I chose to spend two hours of my Tuesday in more productive activities.

From what I understand, Trump doubled down on all of his current policies (?)

For a president whose approval rating is sinking, that doesn't seem like a wise political move.

Biden ended the Trump Pandemic and the Trump Recession and the Trump Inflation. Which of those do you want to bring back?

It makes me an embarrassed to be an American, even though I have had absolutely nothing to do with his ascent into power--and in fact have worked within the system against his election both times.

Still, being an American, I share in our collective guilt and shame.

Have I let the insanity around me go unchallenged? No. I challenge it all the time, here in a red city in a red state where Confederate license plates were on so many cars because the high school team was the Rebels.

The normalization of lies, braggadocio, probable dementia, with scores of complicit legislators who should know better makes me ill.

Very little actual content for two hours of that.

The usual lies about the state of the economy, gas prices, inflation and drug prices going down 500%

Factchecking the SOTU

People with medals. People awarded medals. I deserve a medal. Medals appeared to be the biggest theme of the speech.

New in 2026 domestic policy, some kind of 401K for everybody that We The People will kick in $1,000 for everybody.

Foreign policy almost invisible. (Seriously, I missed out on Bingo from post #8 from how little there was. No rambling about Chyna? No Greenland?!?)
We beat Canada on ice
We abducted Maduro and took oil
Vague threats to Iran
'ended 8 wars'
oh, I suppose tariffs and moaning about the Supreme Court decision counts

Retired 100-year-old fighter pilot from Escondido receives Medal of Honor

Over Korea in 1952, Williams survived what is believed to be the longest dogfight in U.S. military history, in which he battled Soviet fighters

Despite being outnumbered, Williams took down four of the [seven] jet fighters as his plane was hit more than 260 times and he was severely injured.

The incident was kept confidential because the Soviet Union was not officially a combatant in the Korean conflict, and American officials feared that if the air battle became known, it could compel the Soviets to formally enter the war.

Williams didn’t speak about the details of the encounter — even with family members — until records about the dogfight were declassified in 2002.

Trump also announced that the Medal of Honor would be awarded to Chief Warrant Officer Eric Slover, an Army helicopter pilot who was gravely wounded in the 2026 raid that captured Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro.

Trump added that he too hopes to one day receive a Medal of Honor.

“But I was informed I’m not allowed to give it to myself,” Trump said. “But if they ever open up that law, I will be there with you someday.”
