  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

......and nothing there saying that tariffs don't bring jobs back to America.
No, that information you'll get elsewhere. It's already been given to you, but here, from AI, is confirmation yet again:

'Manufacturing jobs during Donald Trump’s second term (beginning 2025) have faced declines despite promises of a boom, with data through early 2026 showing a decrease of over 88,000 to 108,000 jobs. This decline is often linked to trade policies and tariffs...'

So not only are tariffs not bringing jobs back, the added costs for US companies plus the uncertainty, is losing manufacturing jobs.

When is the penny going to drop?

No, that data says that. 2025 was the weakest non-recession year for job growth since 2003 (181,000 jobs added - compared to 1.46 million in 2024), and the manufacturing sector lost over 100,000 jobs.

I prefer actual intelligence rather than a search result that is tailored to whatever you typed into it. Care to try again?

I can give you a couple of dozen links if you'd like. But you wouldn't accept them because they'd all tell you what you don't want to hear. Reuters perhaps? https://www.reuters.com/world/us/us...rumps-promised-manufacturing-boom-2026-01-09/

'WASHINGTON, Jan 9 (Reuters) - U.S. manufacturing jobs in December continued an eight-month skid that began last spring after President Donald Trump rolled out aggressive import taxes that he pledged would lead to a resurgence of blue-collar jobs by reshuffling world trade to favor U.S. workers.'

Look, these reports are factual. They're not opinion pieces giving someone's personal take on what Trump is doing. You can get this information anywhere you look. What was the excuse? Oh yeah. Rome wasn't built in a day. These jobs will be coming. It'll all come good. Just hold tight and the tariffs will do their magic. And of course you are willing to pay for them in the meantime.

So what is it? Accept that you don't have the jobs now, and that they're actually being lost? Or deny the facts and try to argue that increased costs for US manufacturers means they're hiring more people, even though the have absolutely no idea what their costs are going to be? Pick a lane if you don't mind and stick to it.

Then we can point out to you that the tariffs have been knocked back by the SC. So none of this is going to work anyway. Now you don't have an argument. And all you have done is get a great proportion of the countries that dealt with the US very offside with you indeed. Now they know for a fact that you can't be trusted. Now they know for a fact that Trump has no idea what he's doing. Now, as a matter of fact, they are turning away from the US and starting to deal with other major manufacturers who are welcoming them with open arms.

And guess what? You don't have anyone else to blame now. This isn't Obama's fault. This isn't Biden's fault. It's all on Trump's watch. It's all his doing. He is the guy losing the jobs. He is the guy that ensures that you pay his tariffs. And is there any strategic thought to any of this? Are you kidding me? The guy is picking numbers out of a hat trying to decide on tariffs.

He has completely lost the plot. And you are in denial about it.

The man's got game. Respect.
I have absolutely no knowledge about how to bankrupt a casino…but then I’m not the President of the United States, neither.

The future assures us (all) that the “facts” will be filtered through AI, so that the NI (Natural Intelligence), can begin to agree what weight “facts” have again.

I don’t mind AI facts if they’ve been independently corroborated, (such is probably days away, an AI that verifies other AIs!, joy!), and the reader is made aware of the “source”.

Political arguments, though require a “reasoning level” well beyond what our baby-technology can grapple with.
AI will be fine to push the political discourse along.

A fair number of people, (and I’ll go as high as 38%), have a rudimentary grasp of politics, spread out, nice and even like, over all sides), get them beyond “bumpersticker-politics” and they’re lost. The bottom 25% don’t even vote.
And yet, for the last 250ish years, that 13% sliver, has been the “rudder” of our ship-o-State.

Having a place to “shoot the breeze” is nice, I value this place (in terms other than financial, obviously), and I hope that I make it “entertaining”, at least.

Well, if someone from Reuters says something is factual, it must be.

I think that you need to come to terms with your problem. I can supply literally dozens of links showing that you have lost manufacturing jobs. But you can't supply any showing the opposite.

From Fox: Trump administration explains weak jobs report

'The President’s push to bring manufacturing back to America is not yet taking shape. The manufacturing sector lost 5,000 more jobs in November, the third month in a row of job declines for factory workers.'

You need to accept that it's a problem and then deal with that problem, rather than losing credibility by spending all your time denying one exists.

Of course we must not forget the over 900,000 non existent jobs counted up to March 2025 to patch up the 2024 reelection for the democrats. Of course rediscovering these lost jobs & shifting them to the next administration helped the democrats in the fall 2025 elections.

Maybe now there is recovery that can be documented from more reliable sources & be reported:

At the risk of being reduntantly redundant, I refer you back to post #21: NY Fed report says Americans pay for almost all of Trump's tariffs, water is wet

Then pick a lane and stick to it. If you accept that the benefits haven't arrived yet but, gee...just hold on long enough and do the same thing time and time again and it will eventually, somehow result in a different outcome then stop trying to deny that the figures you are being given showing that the benefits haven't arrived are doing just that.

If your argument is that the problem will eventually come good then you can't argue in the very next post that you don't have a problem!

Good grief, man. Could I not be plainer? In some posts you are saying that the problem will get better in time but in others you are refusing to accept that the problem exists in the first place.

You want me to quote your posts to you showing you what you have been arguing? I've better things to do with my time then explain your position to you.

You're the one making the accusations. It's not up to me to justify them.
