  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Nemesio Rubén Oseguera Cervantes, “El Mencho”

The U.S. Department of State is offering a reward of up to $15 million for information leading to the arrest and/or conviction of Nemesio Rubén Oseguera Cervantes, also known as “El Mencho.” Oseguera Cervantes is one of the founders and the current leader of the Cartel de Jalicso Nueva Generación (CJNG). Oseguera Cervantes is one of the most wanted fugitives in Mexico.

CJNG was formed in 2009 and has grown into one of the most violent drug cartels in Mexico. It has been assessed to have the highest cocaine, heroin, and methamphetamine trafficking capacity in Mexico, and over the past few years, includes the trafficking of fentanyl into the United States.

Mexico kills Nemesio Oseguera ‘El Mencho,’ the world’s most wanted drug lord

The Mexican military killed Rubén Nemesio Oseguera, alias “El Mencho,” the most wanted and dangerous drug trafficker in the world, this weekend in the state of Jalisco, in central Mexico, according to official sources who confirmed the information to EL PAÍS. The leader of the Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG), the country’s most significant criminal group, Oseguera headed a criminal enterprise with countless tentacles — more powerful than any other, violent and aggressive in its business practices, and primarily linked to drug trafficking.

The fall of El Mencho, also a priority target for the United States, is the biggest blow to drug trafficking in recent history.

Oseguera’s death has sparked blockades by his group in several states in central Mexico — Michoacán and Jalisco, where he had his stronghold, but also Tamaulipas, Colima, and Guanajuato, among others. His removal from the criminal playing field places Mexico in uncharted territory, with the World Cup just around the corner and the clear ability of criminal groups to sow chaos in cities and along major highways.

Puerto Vallarta Rocked by Cartel Violence

Widespread violence, including vehicle arsons, highway blockades, and armed confrontations, erupted across Mexico’s Jalisco state on Sunday, February 22, 2026, prompting Governor Pablo Lemus to activate a statewide “Code Red” alert. The unrest, which significantly impacted the popular tourist destination of Puerto Vallarta, was a direct response by criminal groups, notably the Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG), to a high-profile federal law enforcement operation in the municipality of Tapalpa that reportedly resulted in the death of CJNG leader Nemesio “El Mencho” Oseguera Cervantes.

In Puerto Vallarta, the violence led to public buses being torched downtown, reports of motorcycle pursuits, and a shootout in the Ixtapa area. As a precaution, public transportation services in the Pacific resort city ceased operations, and hotels reportedly advised guests to remain indoors.

US Embassy issues warning to Americans after ‘El Mencho’ killed

The notice from the Embassy says Americans should shelter in place in Taumalipas, particularly Reynosa, where social media activity has seen numerous reports of blockades.

“Due to ongoing security operations and related road blockages and criminal activity, U.S. citizens in the named locations should shelter in place until further notice,” the notice states.
