  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Jobs report recap: US added 130,000 jobs in January, beating expectations

"It was a January job surge. The surprisingly strong job gains in January were driven mainly by health care and social assistance," Heather Long, chief economist at Navy Federal Credit Union, said in a statement. "But it is enough to stabilize the job market and send the unemployment rate slightly lower.

It made the numbers look better, but for people not in health care and social assistance, the job market still sucked.

We also have one of the largest labor participation percentage rates in modern American history.
It currently stands at 62.5% which is lower than it was from the 1980s through February 2020.

If your numbers are correct, then that means we still have not recovered from the disastrous policies of state governments during the Covid 19 pandemic.

States “forgot” how to govern “correctly” or just the way you like?
There’s a difference.

What?

The current US labour participation rate is 62.5%.

Labour participation was higher than that between 1977 and the start of COVID-19.

It peaked at 67.4% at the start of the 2000s

You really didn't do any basic fact checking...

EDIT: JosephZ beat me to the punch.

Also, for anyone who's interested enough to read beyond the headlines, the key news is usually in the revisions.

Quoting the jobs report directly:

"The seasonally adjusted total nonfarm employment level for March 2025 was revised downward by 898,000. On a not seasonally adjusted basis, the total nonfarm employment level for March 2025 was revised downward by 862,000, or -0.5 percent. Not seasonally adjusted, the absolute average benchmark revision over the prior 10 years is 0.2 percent.

The change in total nonfarm employment for 2025 was revised from +584,000 to +181,000 (seasonally adjusted). "

Check the tables at the bottom. There were 1.029 million less jobs created in 2025 than preliminary estimates.

It won't. The revision from the first year of this Trump second term, was a total of 181k for the whole year.

Turns out the U.S. economy didn’t create half a million jobs last year. It was just 181,000

If one throws out the Jan down revision and called it a Biden number, the Trump 11 month number is 229,000.
Which means under Trump the per month job numbers were an abysmal 20,000 per month.

Not bad for the Trump presidency, but it's no match for Bidenomics.
I sure do miss out of control inflation - high gas prices -

I miss the days of that 10% inflation. Those were the days. High gas prices were awesome as well. Along with floods of illegals coming in and taking jobs and jacking up the cost of housing.

I guess the liberals thought Trump was really going to solve everything within a year. They had a lot more faith in him than I did. I had more realistic expectations. He's actually done pretty good for only being here a year.

Still more to be done.
