  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

So you don't think it matters? A bruise or something more serious is irrelevant to whether it was a justified shooting or not? Is that what you believe?
I'm not a lawyer, so I'll leave the legal intricacies to them. Again, we were discussing word choice and how that affects public perception.

Well, we know the patients name and identity, we know what they were treated for, so there is not much of a HIPPA violation left. Release the full medical documentation and photos so we can prove to those people claiming it's just a bruise how serious the injuries the office received from a domestic terrorist turning an 8000 pound vehicle into a deadly weapon. That will support the administrations claims and shut these agitators up.

We weren't talking about the legality of anything. We were discussing why the way things are phrased and choice of words matter when it comes to releasing information on events like this. As I said, "He went to the hospital with internal bleeding" and "He received treatment for mild bruising at the local hospital and was released later the same day" could truthfully describe the exact same sequence of events, but they will have very different impacts on public perception.
How about words like facist thugs kidnapping et al?

It's an argument between it being soft sold as a bruise, and hard sold as internal bleeding.

From 40 attorneys to 13....

"WASHINGTON, Feb 5 (Reuters) - The U.S. Justice Department unit responsible for prosecuting potential wrongdoing by law enforcement, including during the crackdown on illegal immigration in Minneapolis, has lost two-thirds of its prosecutors and is under orders to scale back its investigations of excessive force, people familiar with its work told Reuters."

"Walz and Frey -- I'm focused on stopping YOU from your terrorism by whatever means necessary. This is not a threat. It's a promise."
Once guys like Blanche start ignoring the law, it becomes an addiction. He's not joking about "any means necessary." In his head it's "whatever i think I can get away with."

The Minnesota U.S. Attorney’s Office is seeing a wave of resignations following the Department of Justice’s handling of the killings of Renee Good and Alex Pretti.
Eight lawyers are either leaving or have announced their intentions to quit the office, following six other resignations last month. The high turnover is unprecedented, as the office generally doesn’t even have that many resignations in an entire year, the Minneapolis Star-Tribune reports. Now there are fewer than 20 attorneys in the office to handle the state’s federal cases.

“More often than not, the people who come in don’t quit, they stay,” Tom Heffelfinger, who served as a U.S. attorney for Minnesota under two Republican presidents, told the Star-Tribune. “A lot of those [assistant U.S. attorneys] see these as career jobs. This is what they want to do. If they can get the job, they stay there.”
After ICE agent Jonathan Ross killed Good last month in Minneapolis, the DOJ refused to initiate a civil rights investigation into her death and instead opted to investigate her wife over her activism. This prompted six attorneys in the office to resign in January.
The more recent resignations reportedly came after a meeting of the office’s criminal division with Minnesota U.S. Attorney Daniel Rosen. One attorney asked Rosen why local law enforcement was shut out of the DOJ investigations into the deaths of Good and Pretti. Others asked why cases involving the alleged assault of federal officers didn’t examine officer conduct. Rosen replied that he wasn’t asking staff “to do anything illegal,” according to one staffer.

At this rate, Bondi, Blanche, and Patel will have to rename it the "Just Us" department.

Top Minnesota prosecutor says ICE cases are sidelining ‘pressing priorities’

U.S. Attorney Daniel Rosen, in a little-noticed filing last week with the 8th Circuit Court of Appeals, said his office is buckling under the crushing weight of hundreds of emergency lawsuits filed by immigrants arrested and detained by Immigration and Customs Enforcement in recent weeks. He said 427 had been filed in January alone, and that the pace is expected to continue into February.

“The MN-USAO has cancelled all [civil enforcement] work and any other affirmative priorities and is operating in a reactive mode.”

In a filing accompanying Rosen’s statement, Justice Department attorneys emphasized that the “crushing burden” caused by immigration cases had led U.S. attorneys offices to “shift resources away from other critical priorities, including criminal matters.”

Rosen’s admissions contradict claims by the Department of Homeland Security that the flood of immigration cases filed in federal court has not overtaxed the Justice Department.

The rupture between DHS and DOJ has been on display in Minnesota, where DOJ attorneys say they’ve struggled to gain cooperation from ICE amid the enforcement surge — and are running on fumes to manage the extraordinary workload.

Using one part of one’s own government (ICE/CBP) to overwhelm another part of one’s own government (USAO) seems like it would be counterproductive, no?

I guess I shouldn't be surprised to learn that Noem's full name is "Kristi Lynn Arnold Noem.'
Coming down on “meh”, for this one.
Making fun of names and such…I’ll leave that sort of thing to other people, if they choose to do that.

The only prominent Lynn Arnolds I can find offhand are this guy and this guy, but I don't see anything about them that seems to bear any importance to Kristi Noem. Can you clarify?
Turns out, she was from the Watertown Arnolds.

Federal prosecutors quit in protest over lack of investigation into ICE shooting; Whistleblower drops 'largest ever' ICE leak to unmask agents

The Justice Department has lost thousands of experienced attorneys since the start of the Trump administration and has backfilled a fraction of the open jobs, with the process snarled by a lack of qualified candidates, bureaucratic delays and hiring freezes, according to people familiar with hirings in the department.

Last year, roughly 10,000 attorneys worked across the Justice Department and its components, including the FBI. Justice Connection, an advocacy group that has been tracking departures, estimates that around 5,500 people—not all of them attorneys—have quit the department, been fired or taken a buyout offered by the Trump administration.

......, When prospective Justice Department employees apply for a job, for example, they are asked to detail a Trump executive order or policy that is significant to them and how they would advance that initiative. The question is also asked of people applying to other executive branch agencies.

************************************************************************

The 6 federal prosecutors in Minnesota and the 4 senior members of DOJ in Washington are just the tip of a very large iceberg of government lawyers that represent the heart of America's judicial system!

Prior to the Trump Administration, securing a position as a federal attorney attracted many of the students graduating from the nation's top university programs!

Given that the Department of Justice now places conservative ideology and personal loyalty exclusively to one individual above competency has made public service under the Trump Administration far less attractive!
