  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

With the publication of my book, Return to Order: From a Frenzied Economy to Organic Christian Society—Where We’ve Been, How We Got Here and Where We Need to Go, I was advised to open social media accounts to aid in its promotion.

I dutifully set up accounts on then-Twitter and LinkedIn and regularly posted on them. I followed all the rules for promoting books, but I have no way to measure how much they helped boost book sales.

However, I did calculate the time and effort required to maintain the account. All the articles and promotions had to be posted. I had to build up a good number of followers to make it worthwhile.

Worst of all, it is hard to avoid the constant scrolling and dopamine hits that come with being on social media. I was by no means an addict of social media. However, even the most self-disciplined users easily find themselves hooked. There’s no use denying it. The system is designed to make frenetic intemperance happen, and it is fabulously successful.

Hi, Michie. I personally left social media around 2010. I only used Facebook, but deleted my account due to the constant passive-aggressive actions of those I knew. When I left, my relationships with all these people (many of whom are relatives) became non-existent. They all ghosted me, and one got the police to tell me not to contact them. Today, I only do LinkedIn for business reasons, and my posts are only business-related. In hindsight, I do not miss using Facebook. I do not have any friends to speak of today (since 2010), but then again--that takes work. IMHO, social media is the lazy road for those who don't want to do the work that real relationships demand. It promises that one can "be more connected", but the results are often hollow and at the cost of one's mental well-being. I have observed the world's populous become absolutely controlled by the influence of social media, and deep down believe that it is a device of evil meant to keep people's relationships artificial and at arm's length, rob their wallets with endless ads, and shape how they think. Biblical precepts are at odds with this, so I have decided to use some wisdom and avoid it for the most part. God knows who I am, and that is enough for me.
