French offices of Elon Musk’s X platform raided by Paris cybercrime unit

French police raided the Paris offices of Elon Musk’s X Tuesday and summoned the tech billionaire for questioning as part of a widening probe into the social media company and its AI chatbot Grok.

Both X chairman Musk and former X chief executive Linda Yaccarino have been summoned to appear at hearings in April, while X employees will be questioned as witnesses, according to the Paris prosecutor.

Prosecutor Laure Beccuau said the investigation, which initially focused on suspected abuse of algorithms, had been broadened to include Grok’s “sexual deepfakes” and the circulation of “Holocaust denial content.”

You are correct. Those European freeloaders have rented space in my mind. But isn't X doing something about it, and France gave them only a month to work on algorithms before raiding the joint?

Politics? Why publicize it if it's a law enforcement operation? Maybe a little virtue signaling to his constituents.

They claim to, but it is still happening. Also, not doing crime any more doesn't absolve you of the crime you were doing.

Well if they gave them a month to work on it, they were quite generous to allow the platform to allow the production of CP for a whole month. If that's not enough time, you take the damn product/program down until you can fix it from being used to produce criminal content.

Producing child pornography and nudes of not consenting adults is (or should be) above politics. Generating Holocaust denial is forbidden in France (and most other European countries). This is again above all political divide.
If you want to defend Musk because he is on "your side", then I am wondering what "your side" looks like.

I agree. It is repulsive. I think any pornography is repulsive. But just to play devil's advocate, if some sick pedophile uses AI to generate child porn, who is the victim? What is the crime? I mean, which would you prefer, a pedophile abducting a child to force them into a psychopathic photo shoot that would leave them traumatized for the rest of their lives, or some guy getting an AI to give them what they need without the trauma? This is an ethical dilemma for many. My opinion is that lust is never satisfied. So AI child porn would just be a temporary solution before these sick individuals will not even be satisfied with that and seek human victims anyway.

Your argument boils down to "the law doesn't need to be enforced, because morally more repulsive acts are possible". Do you see the flaw?
If I slap you in the face, I don't need to be prosecuted, because I could have punched you. (of course a hypothetical, under no circumstance would I commit any of such acts).

Complicity in the organised distribution, offering, or making available of images of ‍minors of a pornographic nature

Defamation of a person's image (deepfakes of sexual nature)

Denial of crimes against humanity (Holocaust denial)

Fraudulent extraction of data from an ⁠automated data processing system by an organized group

Falsification of the operation ‌of ‌an automated data processing system by an organized group

Operating of an illegal online platform by an organized group

No. I do not understand the flaw. Although I believe it to be abhorrent, explain the difference between someone using AI to create a fantasy porn video of their favorite anime character and someone using it to do the same thing with a computer generated image of a child? Although both disgusting, I see no difference. No victims. No different than two adult humans creating a video doing sexual acts for the purpose of generating income. Which leads me to wonder what the difference is between "porn actress" and a prostitute other than a camera? But that is a topic for another discussion.

A lot of the AI pictures were sexualised pictures of real children (and adult women, who also didn't agree to having their appearance linked to pornographic images).

But let me guess, you'd be okay with your appearance linked to vile pictures and then posted on social media.
