  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

How do you politely tell someone off? With manners no doubt.

Like, let's say, an angry guy or something. I've had several angry men in my life before who tried to drag me down with them in their negative anger, and I would like to stand up for myself, but not in an insulting or threatening kind of way.

I hate negative environments where tensions run high. I think anger only fuels that.

I guess I could really polish my manners or something.

My dad was a really angry guy. He verbally abused my sisters and I when we were little, and having that experience gave me a fear of angry people. Usually more towards guys than to girls. Because my dad was a guy. I think I trust ladies a little bit more than guys. Probably because my mother was an angel and she was so nice to me. :)

You don't have to be polite. An absence of politeness is not necessarily rude or mean. I just keep my statements brief and concise.

Being nice or sugar coating things is often deceitful and manipulative because it isn't a reflection of the person's real feelings and can imply things that aren't true and omit things that are true.

Withholding needed comments or changing them for the sake of being nice is wrong.

Making direct, honest, and short comments is a good thing to do during conflicts or when someone else is angry. The less you say the better because the more you say the less they will listen to. Just cut it down to the necessary words.

There's also the option of walking away. You don't have to give someone access to you if they are mistreating you or you feel threatened.

Keep in mind that Jesus was kind, compassionate, and merciful. But He was not "nice." He honestly and directly told it like it is. He called people and their behaviors out for what they were, and He walked away from people who were a threat without looking back.

In sales we have to learn how to deal with difficult people. It is sort of funny really. I think that as a child they could get what they wanted by throwing a temper tantrum. You can observe what they are doing without showing a reaction.

I noticed when someone like that tried to tear you down the next person to come along was very positive and wanted to build you up. I was always happy and grateful for that.

We are accountable for what we do and they are accountable for what they do. My wife is the one who tells me to keep my mouth shut and not say anything negative to anyone. So I try not to say anything but sometimes people can read your thoughts so I do not know what to do about that. Even I have had whole conversations with people without saying a word. Its rare but it happens.

There's also the option of walking away. You don't have to give someone access to you if they are mistreating you or you feel threatened.

Jordan Peterson from 12 Rules for Life: “You are not morally obligated to support someone who is making the world a worse place. You should choose people who want to be better, not worse...Make friends with people who want the best for you.”

In other words, sometimes it is bet not to look for a way to take the wind out of their sails. Rather, take your sails out of their wind.

Speak truth without the emotion.
Some will still take offense.

"The truth is to simple for us. We do not like those who unmask our illusions."

"Better the rebuke of a friend, than the kisses of an enemy."

Christ received angry responses. That is on them. You know what happened there.
You are not responsible for the actions of others regardless of how they attempt to frame it.

Don't expect thank you and hugs from foolish men.

"Reprove not a scorner, lest he hate thee; rebuke a wise man, and he will love thee."

Yet, even fools need correction. So, ignore them, or speak the truth and
and accept the consequences.
