Discussion Born again by prayer and or the laying on of hands?

I became interested in my salvation as a youth and church shopped. I found a church where I got help. I said the sinner's prayer but had not been born again. Then I went for fifty alter calls but was not born again. I wanted a heart full of love and to overcome sin. I stopped going for most alter calls. There had been prophetic words and words of knowledge on being born again. "Reach out and take the Kingdom that comes from above into your heart." "Open your heart." "It is not by power or might but by my Spirit says the Lord. That will open your heart." Then after a preaching by Ps Bruno Knutzen I went forward and he laid hands on me, said "the Holy Spirit is coming into you. There it is", and I fell to my back. Later I surrendered and became meek.

Does anyone else testify on the way they were born again? Benny Hinn teaches you can't be born again with the laying on of hands. I am free to disagree. It may be that there are hundreds of thousands even millions of African and American... believers who have so missed the new birth. It could be a grand follow up mission behind Reinhard Bonnke...

You are born again by faith and confession. "Confess with your mouth Jesus as Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead." Rom 10:9-10

So can you believe? It seems like you are trying too hard. Sure you can say you turn your back on sin, and make Jesus Lord. I admit it must be sincere.

For you did not receive a spirit of slavery that returns you to fear, but you received the Spirit of adoption to sonship, by whom we cry, “Abba! Father!” 16The Spirit Himself testifies with our spirit that we are God’s children.Rom 8:15

Your assurance is by faith, in the written bible. Often if not always it is personal, that God speaks to you on the inside, giving you a yearning to turn your life to him and accept the gift of Jesus. If you are blended to the gospel, you would not even care about your salvation. You care but are afraid it is not assured? Seems likely you are born again. Let your church lay hands on you for the baptism of the spirit, that would provide you more assurance that not only are you born again, but that you are baptized in the spirit with evidence of speaking in tongues. But regardless of that, take the promise of salvation by faith.

If you see His Holy Spirit working in your life through repentance, turning away from sin, then you will know that the fruits of His Holy Spirit are working in you. Afterall, He said He will make His Home in the believer. This is his promise to us.The born again experience is not a one time event but a continuous walk, staying the course, putting on His full armor and through repentance we are sanctified. Only doubt will quench his work in the believer.
As far as my experience, I always believed in Jesus Christ of Nazareth but had not fully relinquished my other beliefs. I did answer an altar call once and the youth pastor laid his hand on me. This was unexpected , I had no preconceived expectations or the desire to experience any kind of manifestations. I did begin to speak in tongues, though. That being said , unless the walk is continuous , one can quench the work of his Holy Spirit and eventually fall away. I did unfortunately fall away into bad theology, "once saved , always saved". I justified sin this way , which means his holy spirit was quenched in me. Luckily I repented and continued my walk with his Holy Spirit.

Sinners prayer saves no one. Salvation is the pure act of God, we do nothing.

For we are spiritually dead, enemies of God, enslaved to sin, unable to save ourself. We have a dept to God none of us is able to pay.

God is jugde and God is love. And because God is love, He must punish all evil. We have all sinned. We are sitting there at the court and God pronounces us all guilty. And after this come the punishment.

But God says wait, even though you are guilty, I have a solution for you. Jesus Christ, the Lamb of God. But someone must be punished for your sins. Either Christ paid the penalty or you will.

So it is not by works one is saved, but it is by the perfect work of Christ on the cross, one is saved.

You are born again the moment Christ forgives your sin, God washes you from above, and pours His Spirit upon you.

Only Christ can save you. All I can do today is point you to the Cross of Christ and pray for God to have mercy upon you.

Someone laying hands on you will not save you. It as act of man. Only by grace, by faith are we saved.

Since God wants all to have the opportunity to repent and be born again and live eternally with Him, then many persons will need more help.

A whole division of souls, many being Christians' children and many secular souls, will need help to repent and be born again. Or miss Christ and His salvation, possibly getting a second chance in the afterlife. Or dying. For all the tribes of Earth must hear the Gospel before He will return to renew the Earth.

It is worth taking up the matter of salvations at the alter...

Acts of men are not always good works... we must ask for salvation from God. Repentance is from God and it bring us to Him. But we must ask by faith and receive by faith and laying on of hands is not a good work to be justified by, but is a conduit of God's grace to us to receive by faith, the Spirit of grace. Grace justifies us. Gives us the finished work of the cross.

i have a perfect testimony of "being born again" by spirit and water. This is my interpreation of it. Check out my testimony in the testimony section of this forum.

Here is the quoted section of my testimony.....

So the first experience/vision.....I visited my father one weekend from college. While staying at his house overnight, I get up to use the bathroom. When i finish and pass my dad in the living room. (He slept on the couch), he was awake and told me to sit next to him. He then explained to me he wasn't my father, but he was really Gabriel. He placed his hand on my forehead. Immediately air rushed into my lungs and i sneezed with my mouth. At the same time, I felt the sensation of warm water being poured over me. I was then pulled out of my body into a separate "realm" that was above. This realm was pure black. Out of the blackness a Silvery/Blue face appears, and says "Thomas, I swear by my great name you are mine". He then asks me several times what I want, and I keep changing my answer. First it was to "live lives", then it was "for my mothers healing", then it was "just to be happy", then it was "to get out of the military", then finally I answered "I wanted to marry Rachel". I was sent off to bed, and as I laid in bed I heard a voice say to me, "My dad was going to die".....so I pleaded with the voice and said "Give my dad, mercy" (meaning his soul). [side note, 14 years later. he is still alive (but his life collapsed around him and changed majorly and he is doing really good now)] I fell asleep and forgot about this vision until my 2nd experience happened. I place this vision happening just before the Holiday Season 2011. I interpret this as a baptism of water and spirit.
