  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Please, I just want the ladies only to answer this question, if they want to.

What are your hobbies ladies, if you have any?

I have a number of creative hobbies and crafts that I do in my spare time, but the list is so long that it would take me awhile to type it all up! So being that I am too lazy to do that, I will just say this: I am trying do something called Diamond Painting. I heard its popular, but being that I'm new to it I am having trouble doing it! Has any lady on here ever done Diamond Painting before? Can give me some tips? :(

Hi! I've never done diamond painting before, however I do know about it! I've seen people do youtube videos about it. How much do you want to know? I think the trick is the film that comes on top, you only peel a little bit away at a time, use the picker tool to place the tiny gem-like plastic pieces to match the pattern, and as you progress you peel back more of the film. The film on top keeps the sticky poster clean and protected and lowers risks of accidents. Placing one plastic diamond at a time has the craft be a tedious hobby, but I've heard it is still very addicting! There are some shopping options for picker sticks that can place 2 or 3 diamonds at a time, but those might take some research to find and buy separately.

I personally am more into jigsaw puzzles, but many puzzlers also like adult coloring, color by number, and diamond painting. Color by number and diamond painting are closely related hobbies. I also enjoy watching hobby or craft video tutorials, such as yarn craft tutorials, even if I'm not very good at them. Sometimes Jigsaw puzzle enthusiasts also like legos.

If you want to talk jigsaw puzzles, I love puzzle chit-chat.

I’m more into drawing than painting, though I have been reading painting books lately. I think I may want to stick with dry medium like colored pencils and maybe pastels. Some coloring medium that goes good with charcoal drawings would be my absolute jam. The quest continues.

I also like ink as a medium, especially for more design-y and internet-y things. I think I just need a coloring medium that works, or some research into color theory.

To be honest, I have the same problem with a long list of hobbies. I have my old friend Trauma to thank for that. In addition to its addition of Toxic Hobbies that make me miserable, it has blurred the line between Hobby and Work, trying anything and everything to escape my situation or otherwise survive. Now my Hobbies are in a state of transition.

Needless to say, I’m ready to end my icky relationship with Sewing and it’s attendant Machine Repair obligations, and move on to something more enjoyable. Probably I would enjoy weaving better, on a small loom size. I also want to try to learn some dance. As a child I really liked that, so maybe taking that up again would be suitable. The drawing I mentioned above I would like to continue to expand.

At the same time I would benefit from calling Woodworking, Gardening, and Machine Repair Work, for that is what they are, and pay myself accordingly. Probably the same for gaming of various kinds, because I get paid for doing it, even though I enjoy it. I don’t do it unless there is some monetary or spiritual benefit involved.

Then there is Poetry and Programming Technology, which I suppose are abandoned Career pathways that basically function as Hobbies now until I can get back to monetizing them. I don’t think broke people really have hobbies, if you’re broke, everything is either monetizable or a mental health treatment to cope with your life, not a hobby. But what I’ve described above is the closest I’ve got.
