  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

The man shot and killed by federal agents in Minnesota was also known for his ‘gentleness.’

A Roman Catholic priest who worked with Alex Pretti, the man shot and killed by federal agents in Minnesota, said he was known for his “kindness” and disputed the narrative of top Trump administration officials that he was a violent “domestic terrorist” and would-be assassin.

Pretti, an ICU nurse, was shot while filming federal officers on a Minneapolis street on Jan. 24.

The incident marked the second shooting death by federal agents in the city. Renee Good was shot and killed on Jan. 7 by a U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agent.

Father Harry Tasto, who worked with Pretti for 10 years when he worked as a chaplain at the Veterans Affairs hospital in Minneapolis, spoke about the nurse’s life during a Sunday evening Mass at the Basilica of St. Marybroadcasted by WCCO.

He brought a gun and two clips of ammo to a ‘mostly peaceful protest’. As was his constitutional right. But that is not the mark of a gentle person. Unsurprisingly it did not go gently either.

And he is now identified as vandalizing a vehicle on January 12th. He's been a busy boy.

I saw that.
I sincerely hope he escaped damnation and made it to purgatory at least. Same with Rene Good. Even though she was a practicing lesbian who showed no sign of repentance.

May God have mercy on them and his will be done!

I’ve always been taught that God is the perfect judge. We leave everyone to God’s mercy.
Amen!

I agree! Even though, I’m still scared about the salvation of those I’ve known who completely rejected Christianity and apparently died unrepentant.

It’s more anxiety than anything.

If that makes sense?

I understand. God knows their hearts. Prayer is never wasted. God knows how to apply it. A lots of these anxieties are normal but we must remember that nobody can be more merciful than God. But we also have to remember that the Lord laid out how we conduct ourselves and we all fail. But we keep going. We all work out our salvation with fear and trembling. We can’t please all people all the time. But we can try to please God to the best of our abilities and not hide the lights we are called to be in the world. Trying to make videos by inserting ourselves in volatile situations for the political content we put out on the internet is not a smart move. A very sad situation all around. :praying:

Here's a video of the peaceful guy taken on January 13th.

"On January 13th, The News Movement filmed a man who appears to be Alex Pretti interacting with federal immigration agents. Our footage was analyzed by the BBC, whose facial recognition technology confirmed his identity to a 97% degree of accuracy."

A correction. It was apparently January 13th and not January 12th.

None of this means he ‘deserved’ to be shot, but that he was neither a squeaky clean gentle nurse either.

Just different than what the media has tried to portray him as. He in fact was shown to be violent in the recent past.

That’s true, but still excuse for shooting him.

edit: it’s still NO excuse for shooting him.

It is not an 'excuse' for shooting him. It shows that he should have been arrested earlier and maybe he would still be alive.

The reason the ICE shooters should be excused from criminal liability is that he had a gun, the existence of a gun was called out, and the gun was discharged within about a second of the presence of the gun being made known. The man was still resisting arrest, and it would be rational for most of them to think in that instant that they were confronting an active shooter.

Exactly. The media has spun these protesters all as peaceful nice neighborly wholesome individuals. The 'mostly peaceful' sort rallying to the aid of neighborly wholesome refugees. Not quite. Multiple hundreds of them should have been arrested for felonies and misdemeanors. Instead they have been encouraged by state and local government that are engaged in insurrection. I think this qualifies as civil war.

I have a reservation for a summer vacation in northern Minnesota. If I am able to keep that reservation I will provide a wide berth of the Twin Cities, not getting within a hundred miles. I have always been leery of Minneapolis proper, But I wouldn't even drive around it on 694 or 494 at this point. I used to live in Minnesota and am so glad I moved out. It has gone downhill so far so fast.

Can i ask a question?

Why did he leave his kindness home
That night when he was full of rage
And being an agitator seen as a threat,
Thats kindness?

No. I don’t disagree. The media tends to shine the best light on these people though. I don’t condone what happened but it did not need to happen.

Its pitiful it had to occur, definitely, but
Think of how and why they felt forced when
Pretti came there filled with rage, kicked in a taillight from unprovoked anger of anything Agents did to him, but
When Officials found he also had a weapon
On his person and he reached into his pocket,
That becomes a forced action in having to be defended against.

I recall something of this happening previous times where kids had fake guns but in not recalling all details, the circumstances led
To one of the kids being shot, also warnings on news and in schools, to not even have any fake guns on their person, because we all know guns fire bullets and bullets kill and if such
A situation where there is a bluff involving
Police and someone goes into their pocket,
The perceived threat is real in select situations.

Gone are the days when kids played cops and robbers with fake guns for this very reason why i believe fake toy guns arent even made anymore!
