  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

Greg Bovino Loses His Job

Gregory Bovino has been removed from his role as Border Patrol “commander at large” and will return to his former job in El Centro, California, where he is expected to retire soon, according to a DHS official and two people with knowledge of the change.

Bovino’s sudden demotion is the clearest sign yet that the Trump administration is reconsidering its most aggressive tactics after the killing Saturday of 37-year-old Alex Pretti by Border Patrol agents under Bovino’s command.

Earlier today, President Trump appeared to signal in a series of social-media posts a tactical shift in the administration’s mass-deportation campaign. Trump wrote that he spoke with Minnesota Governor Tim Walz—whom the White House has blamed for inciting violence—and the two men are now on “a similar wavelength.” Tom Homan, the former ICE chief whom Trump has designated “border czar,” will head to Minnesota to assume command of the federal mobilization there, Trump said.

I'm sure Tom Homan will calm things down.
Homan held some higher ranking positions in that enforcement space under Obama, I'm not aware of any major mishaps when he was in a leadership role in ICE before.

Per Snopes:
During the Obama administration, Homan held senior leadership roles in U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement. He first served as an assistant director for Enforcement and Removal Operations, a division of ICE, then as the associate director of ERO and finally as the executive associate director of ERO. In 2015, Homan received the Presidential Rank Award for distinguished service alongside 42 other government executives.

(granted, seems like a lot of repetitive sounding job titles that all amount to the same thing: assistant director --> associate director --> executive associate director)

but none the less, I doubt Obama would've been giving him an award for this service had he been known for doing anything wildly out of bounds in that realm.

I said in another thread that he's perfectly capable of controlling himself when he's expected to behave, but if you watch his congressional testimony from the first Trump term, he's clearly an attack dog and true believer at heart.

I'm not going to be happy until every last one of these traitorous fascist scumbags are locked behind bars. And that's a whole lot nicer than what they deserve.

Yeah!...then the noble and righteous democrats can start foisting their will and vision on everyone with a different kinds of force, because that's the way it should be.
(y'know, on account of how smart they are from having gone to college and taken some humanities courses)

Nothing says "I hate fascism" like wanting to unilaterally define what "traitor" means based on a personal preference, and then lock everyone up who doesn't agree.

Your apologetics for tyranny and fascism aren't amusing.

But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you and persecute you

It's not apologetics to tyranny/fascism.

The country is more than just the big blue cities.

The 2024 election was very much a referendum on immigration policy. Polling showed it consistently ranked in the top 3 issues voters claimed were the most important. And the polling also showed that 56% wanted stricter laws and increased deportations, 23% wanted the status quo, and 21% wanted immigration laws relaxed.

Attempting to pursue the immigration enforcement strategy that 56% of people preferred (even though 21% hated it) isn't "tyranny".

The fact that people in ideologically bubbled blue cities don't like the policy, and opted protest in confrontational ways up to and including obstruction (that everyone could've easily predicted would've led to some incidents of excessive force being used due to the fact that no law enforcement institution is perfect) doesn't change the overarching dynamic in question.

If 56% of the people in the country voted for 55mph speed limits, and I didn't like it, so every time I saw cops pulling people over for speeding, me and my buddies went and started sticking cameras in their faces, blowing whistles in their ears, and trying to block them with our cars, it's just a matter of time before one of us gets roughed up...that's just the unfortunate reality.

Police misconduct occurring during the enforcement of a law, doesn't automatically make that law tyrannical or fascistic.

So while 90%+ of the residents of Minneapolis may disagree with strengthening immigration enforcement, it's a federal matter and courts already determined back in 2012 is up to the Executive branch's discretion with regards to how strictly or lax they want to pursue the enforcement.

Homan's talking about putting the officers on rotation as many have been "in theater" for months.

...and started out as an ICE agent 40 years ago under the Regan administration (of course it wasn't called ICE then).
I have certain respect for leaders who have done the job.

ICE shootings: What's changing in Minneapolis now that Trump has put Tom Homan in charge — and what's not

Since Trump returned to office last January, his Department of Homeland Security has surged ICE and Border Patrol agents into more than a half dozen major U.S. cities with a new quota of 3,000 arrests per day, up from 1,000 previously. In response, agents have increasingly rounded up noncriminals in public places, as top White House aide Stephen Miller — the architect of Trump’s immigration agenda — instructed them to do back in May, according to the Wall Street Journal.

Rather than “develop target lists of immigrants suspected of being in the U.S. illegally, a longstanding practice,” the Journal reported, Miller told agents to target “Home Depot, where day laborers typically gather for hire, or 7-Eleven convenience stores.”

[This is obviously not targeted enforcement.]

Wednesday, Reuters reported on new internal guidance instructing ICE agents only to target immigrants with criminal charges or convictions.

"We are moving to targeted enforcement of aliens with a criminal history," the guidance reads. "This includes arrests, not just convictions. ALL TARGETS MUST HAVE A CRIMINAL NEXUS."

The new guidance, which was issued by the top official in ICE's Enforcement and Removal Operations division, also tells agents to avoid engaging with protesters because "it serves no purpose other than inflaming the situation.”

Did anyone get roughed up because of this? Do you have any examples of this actually happening? I don't believe that it is reality.

...let's see what happens in practice. I'm not convinced the Stephen Miller will not get Trump to reverse himself again.....

On Bovino - I noticed something in the timing. It may be pure coincidence. But...

He was getting in Twitter / X feuds with.. well..anyone he could feud with basically. Which led to his bosses pulling his social media accounts..

Also, at a press conference he basically threatened that there were would be "consequences" for people criticizing ICE/BP/DHS agents and operations. Not interfering mind you...just using language he didn't like..
“When politicians, community leaders and some journalists engage in that heated rhetoric we keep talking about, when they make the choice to vilify law enforcement, calling law enforcement names like a Gestapo, or using the term kidnapping, that is a choice that is made,” said Bovino. “There are actions and consequences that come from those choices.”

He was gone very shortly after that press conference.. I'll admit I'm not 100% sure it was coincidence he was gone so quickly after making that statement.
