CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Yes, really. The only claim that I've seen that he shot came from your first post in this thread, where "an unnamed law enforcement officer" told CNN that he fired a shot. DHS has never made that claim, and the video evidence shows that he was disarmed before any shot was fired, so that claim was clearly (if we're being charitable) mistaken.
Notably, he was disarmed by an agent reaching into his holster and removing the gun. He did not even draw it.
Bovino and the DHS spokespeople can (and will) spin this harder than a dreidel, but that doesn't change what I (regrettably) can see with my own two eyes, from multiple angles.
The most charitable view of this shooting (for the feds) that I can come up with is that one of the agents heard the call that he had a gun, saw someone reach for it, and - not realizing that it was, in fact, another agent - fired a shot. Then everyone else reacted and opened fire as well. That's still not great though, as it shows these agents to be poorly-trained, trigger-happy idiots. I suppose that's better than murderers, but do you really want poorly-trained, trigger-happy idiots running around your neighborhood with guns?
It seems to me that the sane solution here is a reset of ICE and immigration enforcement actions. Pause current operations, rethink the strategy, and pull all agents back for additional training in federal use-of-force and 4th Amendment guidelines. Unfortunately though, it seems likely that we'll just see a tripling down on the status quo, which is only going to lead to more deaths of innocent people.

See, here we have a classic example of twisting the truth in order to promote a narrative. Yes, the man did "approach U.S. Border Patrol agents with a nine-millimeter semi-automatic handgun" - what Bovino neglects to say though is that said handgun was holstered on the man's hip, and all he was holding was a phone, which he was using to film the agents. He was exercising his 2nd Amendment right to bear arms, as permitted by the concealed carry permit he held, issued by the state of Minnesota.
Yes, he "violently resisted" by thrashing around when they pepper sprayed him directly in the face, then beat him with the can and dogpiled him.

For all of you conservatives, I'll note that during the anti-lockdown protests in 2020, there were plenty of protestors walking around with guns openly displayed. I was living near my state's capitol at the time, and once looked out my window to see half a dozen dudes walking down the street carrying AR-15s and shotguns. Don't recall anyone saying that they shouldn't do that, or that they deserved to get shot for it. And no one did get shot, because the cops kept their heads. Even when they invaded the Michigan state capitol building:

Would you ask the same question of the ICE and Border Patrol agents? They're also showing up at emotionally-charged protests with fully-loaded 9mms and extra magazines (and AR-15s with extra magazines too). Notably, they're the only ones who have actually shot anyone.

So what? If the argument is that "guns make the situation worse," why should anyone be carrying?
And if it's okay for law enforcement to be carrying, why should citizens not be exercising their 2nd amendment rights? I've heard plenty of talk over the years about how the real purpose of the 2nd amendment is so that citizens can protect themselves from government tyranny. Why should that only be limited to what you think is tyrannical?

I can't argue with you, if you sincerely believe a person carrying a weapon into a tense situation and then fights with and fires upon law enforcement is morally equivalent to law enforcement carrying their weapons to help maintain peace -

I cannot argue with you if you genuinely believe that this is an accurate representation of events.
He did not "fight" with law enforcement. He tried to help a woman who had been shoved to the ground and CBP officers started attacking him as well. And he did not even have possession of his gun when the first shot was fired, so unless you're claiming that he's telekinetic, he couldn't possibly have fired a shot at anyone. Again, not even the Feds are claiming that he fired his gun.

Again, he didn’t fire on them. That’s clear from the video. Your misunderstanding comes from Bovino’s claim that he “violently resisted”, which you apparently interpreted as “fired upon,” which is not what Bovino said.
