my mum said god teaches through punishment, i was punished with a 4 hour 30 minute saturday detenion do you think i deserved it ?

I go to a good but VERY strict school in england our school detention policy says that anty student getting 3 detentions in a term will automatically go into a 4 hour 30 min satuday detention. well last tuesday i kept messing about in my maths class my teacher told me several times to behave or she would give me a detention, i ignored her and threw a paper plane across the classroom , she then shouted RIGHT THATS IT DETENTION 1 AND A HALF HOURS FRIDAY EVENING it was only at the end of the lesson that i remembered this would be my 3rd detention this term which means satuday detention, i went up to my teacher and said how sorry i was and begged her to let me off , she said NO as i had been warned several times to behave but ignored the warnings, so therefore deserved the satuday detention. last satuday i served my saturday detention it was MISREABLE , he is the timetable
8:45 am REGISTRATION AND SCHOOL UNIFORM INSPECTION , we had to be smartly dressed our white school shirts had to be ironed our collars done up ties neat and tidy shoes polished and school blazer done up,
9am--11am PUNISHMENT ESSAYS we had to sit at our desks in TOTAL silence and write an essay on why we were being punished, i had to write an essay on why its unacceptable to get 3 detentions in a term
11am --11:15 am 15 mute break
11:15am--13 :15 PUNISHMENT ESSAYS back to our desks and write an essay on what we had learned from satuday detention.
13:15 am TIDY CLASSROOM BEFORE GOING HOME we had to pick up any litter before we could go home.
saturday detention was a misreable experiance my parents said i deserved it what do you think ?

So, you knew the rules and then disobeyed and then apologized only when you realized it was your third detention and there would be consequences for your actions.

I would agree with your teacher and your mother/parents.

to be honest i forgot that i already had 2 detentions this term, i was gutted when i got the saturday detention, to make things worse i still had to serve the original 1 hour 30 minute detention on the friday evening, i had to write an essay on why its important to behave in class, when i got home i had homework to do, my mum said i wasnt allowed out and made me iron my white school shirt to perfection, on satuday i had to wear full school uniform when i got to school there were around 15 of us all being punished for different reasons, the detention was VERY stirict we had to stand behind our desks while the teacher inspected or uniform , our white shirts had to be properly ironed, we had to have our collars done up and tie neat and blazer buttoned up , one student had her collar undone and was warned that unless she done it up at once she would recieve a detention, then 2 hours of essay writing, then a 15 minute break, then another 2 hours of essay writing , it was a MISREABLE punishment, my mum said the uniform inspection is to install disipline, and the punishment must hurt so i learn my lesson advice please ?

The words, 'strict', 'discipline' and 'punishment' are not bad words.

Based on what you've said, the consequences of your actions are unpleasant to you, but not unexpected nor unfair since you knew, ahead of time, what they would be.

My advice is to listen to your mom, do what you're expected to do at school and use this experience as a learning opportunity so you don't repeat unpleasant and avoidable consequence.

my mum asked me if i am going to get a saturday detention again and i said no way, having to go to school in uniform on a saturday is NOT fun , my mum said thats the point of the punishment its hard STRICT and unpleasent,it teaches us to correct poor behavour, as the wrongdoer does not wish to be punished again , it also sends a message to potential rule breakers, that these are the punishments you could get, is my mum rifgt ?

I don't know the whole situation but I know that, in order to avoid unfair treatment during discipline, it's best to avoid the discipline in the first place.

You seem pretty smart and I think you know that you could have done better. I also think you are blessed to have a school and parents who are teaching you so the world doesn't have to because, trust me, punishment by the world is going to be a lot more harsh and possibly even more unfair.

I believe that you will do better, in future, and will be happier as a result!

when i moaned at my mum she said the 1 hour 30 minute detention was my punishment for messing about in class, the saturday detention was my punishment for getting 3 detentions in a term. my mum was NOT happy about me getting a saturday detention, she picked me up on the saurday after my detention, as you expect i had already taken off my tie and blazer, she made me put them back on then took me shopping , she said this was her punishment, when i got home my mum made me wear my school uniform for the rest of the day, as you can guess i stayed in and didnt go out, was my mum right in both cases ?

When our children were your age, we took whatever they treasured most for several weeks or they were put on restrictions meaning they could not go out with their friends for usually a month. Plus if they moaned and complained, time was added.

saturday detention was a misreable punishment , i HATE detention its just so long and boring why does punishment have to be so misreable ?

Let's say you've gotten a job and your supervision gives you a task that you really do not want to do. This thing is awful, puts you in isolation and will require a long time - perhaps a day or two. You are sure that the employee that started with the company a couple of days ago is much better suited for this endeavor. You fully believe your time, energy, talents/skills would be better spent doing something else. What are you going to do?

i see what you are saying, but i normally lay in bed until around 10am on a saturday then go out with friends, last saturday i was woken up by my mum at around 7:30am , she made me iron my white school shirt and polish my black school shoes, when i got to school we had to stand behind our desks for a uniform inspection, our ties had to be done up and blazer buttoned, then 4 hours of essay writing with only a 15 minute break in between, then we had to tidy the classroom before we could go home, i missed going out with my friends, i know saturday detention is a punishment but why does it have to be this hard and misreable ?

It's not the end of the world. I think the odds are you won't repeat the behaviour so it will have served it's purpose.

These days most schools have gone soft. When I was young, it was routine to be sent to the principal's office for the "cuts" - copping a caning.

These days a principal who tried that would end up in jail.

We've also got increased youth crime and a lack of respect for other people, thanks to wimpy laws passed by our politicians.

Learn the lesson and then just get back on with life. You've got a long way to go yet, and a Saturday detention may well be the least of your worries in the years to come.
