  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

I wouldn't call whatever the swiss are speaking "german". Schwizerdütsch is utterly incomprehensible to a native german speaker.

And to Swiss people as well.

Didn't see this part in the news until just now, but apparently there was talk on in UEFA that the teams would boycot the FIFA cup games in the US if something were to happen in Greenland, or even if things kept like this. Having the world championship games ruined apparently would have really looked bad for Trump.

I used to play soccer with a Swiss citizen whose home canton mostly spoke Italian. There are actually four official languages in Switzerland, including one (Romansh) that most people here have never heard of. I'm told that Swiss Italian is markedly different than that spoken in Italy, but they are mutually comprehensible.

NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte is starting to show some common sense and not as bad as those EU virtue signalers.
He seems to do a fairly decent job of managing and manipulating Trump, at least. I have some experience with managing and redirecting dementia patients thanks to my grandparents, and it's not as easy as you might think.

given trumps foreign and domestic policies FIFA cup is already dead, how many countries are going to send players when trump has repeatedly refused to let people for petty things, or places where trumps attacked and players might not want anything to do with the US.

Greenland is icy and Iceland is (in the summer) green. Iceland is tiny, with a moderate population. Greenland is YUGE, with almost no people.

Let's get Iceland while the getting is good.
Isn’t Denmark in charge of both of them? We would need good negotiations, but alas, I think it’s best just to leave both alone as is.

No, Iceland is a completely independent country.

He seems to do a fairly decent job of managing and manipulating Trump
Trump also has a way of manipulating minds, especially in political forums.

Rutte knows how to manipulate him by saying they needed Donald Trump because without him.... DT likes praise. Parphrase: if Kamala were elected, none of the security would have been taken seriously.

Rutte:
"There was one big irritant on the on the American side with NATO, and the big irritant, since Eisenhower, was that they were spending, the US was spending, so much more than Europe was spending. Even today, the US is spending 3.5% of GDP on core defence; we are spending in Europe average 2% on defence. And here's my question to the audience. I mean, many of you, I know, criticize Donald Trump, but do you really think that without Donald Trump, eight big economies in Europe, including Spain and Italy and Belgium, Canada, by the way, also outside Europe, would have come to 2% in 2025 when they were only on 1.5% at the beginning of the year?

No way. Without Donald Trump, this would never have happened. They are all on 2% now. Do you really think that in the Summit in The Hague, as already Alex was saying, sorry, the President of Finland was saying, that we would come to a overall defence spending of 5%, including 3.5 in core defence, if President Trump would not have been re-elected as president of the United States?

No way. It would never have happened. So again, I'm not popular with you now because I'm defending Donald Trump, but I really believe you can be happy that he is there because he has forced us in Europe to step up, to face the consequences that we have to take care more of our own defence. And this is the thing – the Americans still have over 80,000 soldiers in Europe. They are still, including in Poland, in Germany, etc, they are still heavily invested in European defence. And yes, they have to pivot more towards Asia. So, it is only logical for them to expect us in Europe to step up, over time."

Europeans mooching off the USA since Eisenhower, now I'm really irritated.
