  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

The Inuit in Greenland see what has become of the indigenous people of the US and Canada.

They see that whatever financial offer they get from the US, it will become chump change within a couple of generations, just as it became for the indigenous people in the US who sold their mineral rights instead of licensing them.

"Waaaa! I want the world to tell me everything I say is genius! Waaaaaaa!"
That's Trump complaining about the world saying NO to taking over Greenland - especially when the US already has a base up thataway, can send their military through Greenland with their permission, and can even MINE rare earths there with their permission.

So why does Trump think he's entitled to just take it? Oh - because he himself wants it! (As he admitted on national TV.)
Because Europe didn't give him the Peace Prize.

"Waaaa! Obamna got one, and he's BLACK!"
Trump's father was famously racist - are we really naive enough to think Trump isn't competing with Obmna over this? He would burn the world to the ground to prove he's equal or superior to that BLACK President!

(Note: Trump's speech impediments like "Obamna" are getting worse. The way he stumbles over simple names and words like this has particular signatures that indicate dementia.)

Basically, we were warned. Hundreds of psychatrists signed public letters warning this would happen.

Trump is a Malignant Narcissist. It's not enough that he wins - everyone else must also lose. And be in pain! That makes it even better. He enjoys their suffering - as it confirms this fragile man's ego. His worldview. His religion about himself. He deserves to win. And he is SO much better than the rest of the human race, they deserve to suffer!

This is not my opinion. Google what the professionals say about their diagnosis of him.

When you feed a narcissist a daily dose of "narcissistic supply" - their appetite for grandiosity only grows.
A few months back in his mind he was the greatest President America had ever had.
Now he wants to be world emperor.
It's time for the 25th.
Someone needs to save the world from him - and especially to save America from him.
America is losing friends, fast.

Trump Davos speech - live: US president demands 'immediate negotiations' on Greenland

Nato leaders watch as Donald Trump delivers speech to World Economic Forum.

The US president told the World Economic Forum that since the US election, the stock market has set 52 "all time records".

Trump said: "People are very happy with me.

"Just over one year ago, we were a dead country. Now we're the hottest country anywhere in the world," he added.

...inflation has been defeated."

Donald Trump has said Europe is not heading in the right direction.

He said green energy and mass migration has "hurt Europe".

He continued: "Certain places in Europe are not recognisable any more."

Trump speaks about splitting oil with Venezuela

"Those 150 (oil) million barrels, we're going to split them with them."

Greenland

"I have tremendous respect for the people of Greenland and Denmark," he said.

"The fact is, no nation or group of nations is in a position to secure Greenland other than the US.

"I think they found that out two weeks ago in Venezuela."

He added: "We saved Greenland, and successfully saved our enemies from gaining a foothold.

"Without us, you'd all be speaking German... and a little Japanese.

"After the war, we gave Greenland back to Denmark," he said, referring to the US's occupation of Greenland during the Second World War in order to defend it from possible Nazi invasion. [In just a few hours in 1940, Denmark had fallen to the Nazis, who broke a non-aggression pact to invade. Greenland declared its independence from Occupied Denmark.]

"How stupid we were to do that? How ungrateful they are now.

Trump says he wants "immediate negotiations to discuss the acquisition of Greenland."

"This unsecured land is actually our territory."

Speaking on Europe and NATO, Trump said: "They don't appreciate what we do."

"All I'm asking for is a little place called Greenland," he added.

"All we're asking for is to get Greenland, including the right title and ownership, and you can't defend it on a lease."

Trump has claimed people in "ice land" called him "daddy", and that he is well thought of and respected in Greenland.

"You can say yes, and we will be appreciative.

"Or you can say no, and we will remember."

[Now he's confusing Iceland with Greenland.]

Trump is now saying that “we have to defend the culture” that built the collective west and “rediscover the spirit that lifted the west from the depths of the Dark Ages to the pinnacle of human achievement.”

Trade is (according to econ 101, at least) mutually beneficial. It certainly seems to have helped the U.S. to prosper. Our economy didn't become what it is today because of protectionism.
Protectionism is good for a weak economy, to protect it from the stronger competitors. Japan got into troble, because it did not end its protectionism after the Japanese economy got strong.
Personally, I can see using tariffs to protect certain key industries which are essential for national security. But if you're targeting your allies with tariffs, national security obviously isn't part of the thought process.
Trump and thought processes? :D

NBC news said the proposed deal would give the U.S. "pockets of land" on which to build bases. Isn't that what we had before? Of course, the Trump argument is that in this hypothetical scenario, we would have ownership. Which is better than "leasing".

There's so many questions around this, who knows where to begin.

There is an old saying: Give the Devil a ride, then he will want to drive. Give him one square inch of land and he will proclaim ownership over the whole territory and place thousands upon thousands of soldiers over "his" land and try to dictate how the rest of the land is run. No. Let him lease the land or whatever we've been doing from the start. Do not GIVE him anything.

Yeah, I agree. It sets a precedent. Let him win this time, and he'll continue to use these tactics again and again.

I hope their strategy is to stall him and look for a different solution. It also raises questions about if there were actually serious discussions of a deal or not. I think Trump tries to make it look like he has achieved spectacular things, when in reality he didn't make much progress. His supporters eat that stuff up.

He needed an off-ramp after he saw the markets blow up and 90% of Europe turn on him. So, if this was his way out - making up some kind of delusional deal - then I'm fine with it for now. As long as he leaves Greenland alone, because you know if he won this time, Canada was next on his list of conquests. What's the difference between what he was trying to do and Putin taking over Ukraine? Putin and Victor Orban have gotten into his head.

C'mon. you all thought that Trump was causing a war with NATO and the EU through his bluster and threats of tariffs.

Trump WINS big time if there is more of a focus on the Russian and Chinese threats in the Arctic, more of a Denmark and NATO presence in Greenland, more of a US military presence, and a more active mining industry looking for rare earths. The naysayers just look silly as is usually the case. Macron just looks like the lame duck leader that he is. And I do applaud the actions and statements by Denmark in this so-called crisis. Denmark is one of the closest allies to the US and will continue to be so after Trump is gone. I also applaud the statements and actions of the EU after Trump announced yet another instance of his TACO tariffs policy.

The difference is that PUTIN actually invaded a major power in Europe and killed hundreds of thousands AFTER occupying Crimea in the first war.

TRUMP blustered and THREATENED to invade a Danish territory of 55,000 people.

For some of us, there is a MAJOR, MAJOR difference between these two situations.

If you assume a U.S. that is no longer part NATO and our existing relationship with Denmark is terminated, then yes it would. It would also be a much weaker U.S.
The US is NATO.

Trump is talking about it.

Trump says he'll do 'something on Greenland whether they like it or not;'

Like tariffs on NATO?

Like tariffs on NATO?
He probably thinks it's an option. Let's face it, he confuses Iceland with Greenland and declares tariffs on an island populated by penguins.

And just as a heads up, discussing security in the arctic with someone from NATO has absolutely zip to do with taking over Greenland. So this concept of a framework for a possible deal sometime in the future gives Trump nada. Rien. A big, fat nothing.

He's backing down, canned the tariffs and is looking for an off ramp so he doesn't look foolish.

Hey, if you weren't aware, it's waaaaay too late for that.
