  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Good grief...what news are you reading? He literally threatened a number of NATO members with punitive tariffs simply because they didn't support his bat crazy demands. And then threatened to increase them. He threatened to take control of Greenland by any means. He specifically didn't rule out using force.

I mean, you know all this. How in heaven's name can you actually say that he didn't threaten anyone? That makes absolutely no sense at all.
And yes, Trump has ruled out using force.

And yes, Trump has ruled out using force.
So...you now know that he's ruled it out. Meaning that you agree that it was at one point an option that he said he had.

Now please tell me...in what world does someone have to live in when suggesting that you are considering using force to take over another country NOT A THREAT!

Is it the same world where you tell a half dozen countries that you will impose tariffs on them because they have expressed an opinion that what Trump was proposing was monstrously stupid but that is NOT A THREAT?

I might check an online dictionary after I post this because it seems that the word THREAT has been redefined in the last couple of hours. Has the WH issued it's own definitions? Maybe they'll be issuing a new atlas as well where Iceland and Greenland swap names. I mean, good heavens...with advisors crawling all over his office and he can't even remember the name of the country he said he wanted so bad.

I think Trump wanted one last attention-grabbing moment before the Supreme Court takes his IEEPA tariff powers away.

Not that he can't get attention by other means. But I'm sure he'll miss his beloved tariff-tantrums.

Oh Karoline....

Karoline Leavitt, the White House press secretary, denied that Mr. Trump had misspoken, responding in a social media post to a reporter who wrote that he had appeared to mix the countries up multiple times.

“No he didn’t,” she wrote to the reporter. “His written remarks referred to Greenland as a ‘piece of ice’ because that’s what it is. You’re the only one mixing anything up here.”

Leavitt is America's chemical Ali - standing in front of Trump denying the obvious drooling mental-decline while it's going on right behind her.

At the end of the day, all that's been done thus far... Are words.

...Words.

And threats.

...Threats.

There's a yawning difference (in both interpersonal discussions and geopolitics) between 'I would like this', 'I think I'm entitled to this' and 'I'm going to take this by force, whether you like it or not' or 'If you don't give me this, I'll use physical force against you'.

The latter fundamentally change how a relationship works.

From the article: "we have formed the framework of a future deal with respect to Greenland and, in fact, the entire Arctic Region,"

Shades of "I have concepts of a plan" for healthcare. (Meanwhile, the announced Republican healthcare plan totalled 346 words - for those keeping score, that's just 0.55 Fulneckies)

No need to be scared of threats. There's always a solution to any problem, in fact, it's best to never see problems anywhere, but rather, to see potential solutions in all things.

Embrace the potential, rather than succumbing to fear, or anger.

whose angry? Were laughing at the joke the US has become. 1 second, "I MUST HAVE GREENLAND." same day, "We have a deal for maybe something in the near future."

There are no options. Trump simply asks them for what he thinks he wants! I mean, how difficult is this to grasp?

Oh, I thought we were talking about me. I was under the impression that we all get to choose our opinions, on whether we want to "whitewash' the president's comments, or if we should outright support them or not... In the open.

Oops.

well what do you do when a country stands behind someone that keeps destroying it, and acting like it's a new thing, no one complains about north korea. trump ruined foreign relations and trust with the world, in order to get what he already had and brags about it. Now is that anything but funny? Stable genius indeed, art of the deal indeed!

The Secretary of NATO, as well as the nations in the 8 peace deals that President Trump made, strongly disagree with the assertions of the anti-Trump people that President Trump has ruined foreign relationships.
