  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

U.S. Senator Ed Markey (D-Mass): 'Invoke The 25th Amendment'

Others have concurred, but it will take the cabinet and veep to do it.

View attachment 375544

If they do invoke the 25th, they will wait until the end of January next year after Trump serves 2 years and 1 day. That way JD can finish the term and get two more.

Did you read that article?
Yes. It completely ignores the concepts of sovereignty and self-determination. Greenland is not US territory. The people of Greenland do not want to be part of the US. Denmark, who are the rulers of Greenland, have no desire to sell or otherwise surrender control of the territory to the US. Therefore, the desire of the US President for the territory is not relevant - if its security is vital to US interests, then we can leverage our existing, very friendly and cooperative, relationship with the Danish government and NATO in general in order to make sure it is properly secured. We do not need to own the territory for that to happen.

I'm sure that Canada thinks Alaska is vital to its security interests - should we give it to them if they ask?

The sane washing has arrived.

It's the Gateway Pundit. That's not sanewashing. They're the opposite of sanewashing. Anything that comes out of there is INSANTLY suspect.

It's about the same level as Infowars, Natural News, Conservapedia or WorldNetDaily.

Yes. There was zero justification for anything that Trump has said. None whatsoever. It was a pathetic attempt to redirect attention from what the man has shown himself to be.

Trying to justify what a fool does only makes oneself look foolish. We are a long way past excusing this type of behaviour.

There are Trump supporters who would still excuse him shooting that guy on 5th Avenue. They are beyond help. But it's time for the rest of MAGA to return to the real world and take a good hard look at themselves. It's time for some honesty.

Did you read that article?

Yep. From your own link:-

The Arctic is no longer a frozen buffer zone. It is warming far faster than the rest of the planet, opening shipping routes, exposing untapped resources, and turning geography into strategic leverage.

BTW, the link in the Gateway pundit article goes to an article by Nature which references the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change and basically backs the agreed climate change models.

Meanwhile, in Trumpland...

Trump called climate change a 'con job' at the United Nations.

"This 'climate change,' it's the greatest con job ever perpetrated on the world, in my opinion," Trump said. "All of these predictions made by the United Nations and many others, often for bad reasons, were wrong. They were made by stupid people that have cost their countries fortunes and given those same countries no chance for success. If you don't get away from this green scam, your country is going to fail."

So your article says that the US should takeover Greenland because climate change is causing the artic to heat up, however Trump doesn't believe this and thinks it's all a con.

Which means that either Trump is lying and really does believe in climate change, or he is lying and there's no security threat because the artic isn't warming and thus not allowing greater access to Russia, China or the Kraken from H.G Wells.

We look forward to your opinion as to which one Trump is lying about.

I'm amused at how many of the same folks who lose their minds about the supposedly high crime rates in urban areas are now a-ok with Trump using extortion as foreign policy.

If you're okay with this whole Greenland thing,

America has bought large amounts of land in our history. This ain't nothing new. If America doesn't control access to the shipping lanes in the Arctic Ocean aroundGreenland, then Russia and China most surely shall. Which option is the most preferable one?

Acquiring Greenland isn’t required to accomplish any of that. We had military cooperation prior to this fool’s errand.

When the last time we did it was over 150 years ago (Alaska in 1867; I'm not counting the Virgin Islands as a "large amount of land," and the Philippines were granted independence), it kinda is something new. The world has changed significantly since then.
If America doesn't control access to the shipping lanes in the Arctic Ocean aroundGreenland, then Russia and China most surely shall. Which option is the most preferable one?
1. There are currently no restrictions on the operation of US warships around Greenland, and we're free to open as many bases on the territory as we want, and base as many troops as we want there. During the Cold War, US soldiers made up something like 20-30% of Greenland's population at their maximum of ~15k. In other words, us not having ownership of Greenland does not prevent us from controlling the shipping lanes around it.

2. You present a false dichotomy. Most of our NATO allies have naval forces - why would they cede control of the waters around their northern reaches to Russia or China? Not to mention, Russia's navy is a complete joke - see how Ukraine, a country with no navy whatsoever, is somehow winning the naval war in the Black Sea.

What options are you talking about for heaven's sake? Control access all you want. Greenland (and Denmark) will be grateful for it. And if you need more and/or larger bases in Greenland then just ask nicely. They'll literally give them to you! They'll welcome the influx of money. You'll be welcomed with open arms.

But, no. Trump is psychologically unable to ask nicely. He needs to threaten. He needs to demand. He needs to play what he thinks is the strong man. Except we all see him for what he is.

Threatening bad things unless the deal goes through isn't buying. It's extortion. You're simping for thuggery.

Is China's navy a joke?
That this is the only response you're able to muster to my post is telling.

China's navy is untested. They have a lot of ships; whether those ships (and more importantly, the sailors on them) are actually any good remains to be seen. They might turn out to be a joke, or they might not. But that doesn't address anything at all that I said.
