  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

We need to pray and write our politicians. Taking away freedom of speech, saying parts of the Bible are hate speech, will not be able to post scripture..
Bill C-9 represents an unacceptable assault on free expression in Canada. (it is especially targeting religious groups) use link provided to send a message to your member of parliament, this link is good for all over Canada.
This bill would give the government the power to criminally prosecute Canadians for their opinions, lower the bar for what legally constitutes “hate,” and strip away vital safeguards that keep authorities from weaponizing laws against dissidents. It risks turning controversial memes into crimes and silencing open debate through fear of prosecution.

On reading about it this actually sounds quite good. That people need to be forced not to be awful by the law is the real shame here.

To me it's just the truth,
Yeah but to most people that’s hate speech and it’s most people that count in a democratic country.

Gutting protections for religious beliefs in a criminal code and amending it to a bill designed to supposedly protect people is tyranny. So, I guess if if a person has pro life beliefs that abortion is wrong, the state can criminalize such belief as alleged hatred. As things stand in Canada, there is no restriction on sex selection in abortion. If I would publicly & non violently express an opinion that I think that such a practice is evil, I guess I could face prosecution if this law is passed which some might say is the right thing. Or maybe if I believe assisted suicide is best avoided and could be exploited by the state, such public opinion might be subject to prosecution.

Christianity was originally held by individuals under secular tyranny and St. Paul said to be law abiding ( Romans 13:1-14). This is often not acceptable enough for secular or religious authorities ( within the faith or of others).

I am American not Canadian so I am on obvious outsider on this but I agree with the Canadians who express their concerns on this bill

On the matter of sex selection in abortion.

Canada
In 2013, Conservative MP Mark Warawa introduced a motion condemning discrimination against females through sex-selective abortion but which ultimately never came to a vote.[103] In 2021, Conservative Cathay Wagantall introduced a private member's bill that would prohibit a medical practitioner from performing a sex-selective abortion. Although the bill was defeated 248-82, a majority of Conservative MPs voted in favour of the bill.[104]

why? I don't get why people think religions should be exempt from the same laws as everyone else has to follow. Same people agianst this complain about other religions that are against Christianity.

People aren’t exempt from laws. Why are their religions views being singled out? What about their political or philosophical views? What if a person who might be an atheist but still support the pro life interpretation of part of the original Hippocratic Oath?

no their religious views are not being singled out, anyone with such beliefs and saying same thing will get in trouble, now our fault preachers are often the ones making the statements. It's YOU that want a two tier system, you can be hateful as long as it's not religious motivated then it should be protected!.

Right, if I don’t agree with you, I go to jail. Such a loving application of the golden rule.

In the video of the original post ( at around 10 to 11 minutes into the video, I would paste from the transcript, but I can’t on my phone). A parliamentary official clearly tells an advocate for a Christian legal foundation that scripture from Leviticus and Romans counts as “hate” speech.

so if a muslim scripture said, "It is an abomination to be a christian, they have committed an abomination; they shall be put to death; their blood is upon them" you wouldn't consider that hate crime? Lets not forget what the bible says here, it's not, "You shouldn't be gay." it's something that goes much further then that.

But oh wait christians do get upset about similar sciptures about christians in the quoran.

So I don’t trust the Koran or Islam on as a whole. I also don’t believe in censorship and realize most people who follow this creed aren’t dangerous. There are already provisions in place for safeguarding society if the law is actually properly enforced.
