  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Most Catholics cannot cogently explain to their children or their non-Catholic friends why the Catholic Church doctrinally and scripturally does not approve of homosexual behavior. One reason for this is that 80 percent or more of American-born bishops and priests, like Catholic clergy in European countries such as Spain, are documented to be homosexually oriented.

The increase in homosexual priests and religious in the U.S. over the past sixty years has contributed to a forty-three percent decline in priests, and an 80 percent drop in the number of nuns. Just as straight young men don’t go to gay bars, straight Catholic young men do not want to study at seminaries or serve in institutions populated mainly by homosexuals. Even though it is hardly ever discussed, so too do heterosexually oriented women not want to join religious orders in which the majority of nuns are lesbians.

Around sixty years ago, a very devout, charismatic young woman received permission to establish an order of women religious in a particular diocese. The order grew until the foundress developed cancer and had to take leave to undergo treatment outside the small rural diocese. In her absence, the homosexually oriented bishop was instrumental in having a lesbian nun appointed the mother superior of that order. When the foundress returned after her cancer was arrested, the bishop wanted the lesbian nun to continue serving as the mother superior. Not wishing to work under the lesbian nun, the foundress left the order along with half of its members. From that moment onward, not one new postulant joined the order which is now facing extinction.

I read this earlier.

The author's contention is that in the USA and in Europe about 80 percent of priests and bishops are homosexual (in some form or another of activity or inactivity). I could easily see where the percentage might be about half but I don't know about 80 %. He is quite convincing though. And it could easily explain how the Lavender Mafia continues to hold such amazing power in the Church. And it would explain pope Francis.

He mentioned that we don't like to think of our own priests as being that way, but in my experience I have run into them, figuring it out only later. One when he was arrested and tried and convicted, another who finally quit the priesthood and moved to San Francisco, and another who is now a provincial superior for a religious order and promoted well beyond his competence. I have my suspicions about many others.

Lord Jesus, come heal your Church.

As I’ve stated numerous times, I have a brother deep in that lifestyle. I wouldn’t wish it on my worst enemy because of how much he has been harmed.

People who scream “love is love” and “they’re born that way” cannot fool God.

Praying the Holy Spirit cleans this mess up in our Church ASAP! Ugh

I don’t know. I wouldn’t be surprised if it’s 40%. I’m sure some of them are good, holy priests, but a priest with same sex attraction is NEVER the ideal.

Bishop Bruskewicz was a stickler for following the rules about not admitting those with homosexual tendencies into the seminary. And yet there was a seminary scandal discovered years later in his diocese. Now resolved I think. But it goes to show how widespread this stuff is and how insidious. Not every priest or bishop with same sex attraction is nefarious, but we need actual men of God who don’t duck and cover in those roles. Not compromised men. Not timid men.

I want to read about all the homosexual Protestant pastors, rather than priests and nuns.
I suspect there are many of them. I knew one Lutheran seminarian who was a definite atheist. Not sure of his sexual preferences. That never came up. But he was from a long line of Lutheran pastors and being an atheist wasn’t going to stop him.

What? That is very odd.

The data on homosexual priests I've read is much less than 20 percent in the US, which probably equates to less than 5 percent worldwide (my estimate)

I donno. He thought it made perfect sense to be an atheist pastor. I can imagine atheist Catholic priests and bishops and cardinals and even popes. I shudder to think of it but I know it is possible. My atheist seminarian acquaintance convinced me of the possibility.

That’s just bizarre.

I remember hearing about many atheist pastors in the United Church of Canada (merger of Methodist, Presbyterian, and Congregationalist Canadian Churches in the 1960s), and it didn’t make any sense to me.

Is it for power?

Who knows?
