  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Peace in the name of Jesus is wonderful, but let us go through what has happened.

One year ago, you posted a bunch of claims about Easter in another topic (which you mostly just copied from another source without attribution, as noted already by PloverWing). I went through it, in considerable detail, pointing out how much of it was false, and how you offered zero evidence for any of it. You certainly saw my response, because you replied to it... but rather than respond to a single thing I said, or offer a single bit of evidence for your claims, you simply deflected by changing the subject.

You then here, posted what was for the most part the exact same message. Not only the same claims; the exact same wording (notably, you again gave no credit as to where you were copying the stuff, mostly word for word, from). There were a few changes, but largely the exact same thing. So, I responded again (as seen above), bringing up the points I had previously raised which you never answered, and also noting what I just did--that you were just making the same claims you did before, which had been refuted, which you know had been refuted, and yet you made all of them all over again, still with no actual evidence offered and no apparent effort to fix things in response to my counterpoints.

So, after I pointed out these problems to you twice, you don't respond to a single point I raised or offer any evidence for the evidence-less claims you made, and instead again ducked any response by saying "peace in the name of Jesus". You appear to have no evidence to offer for the claims you made--which makes sense, because there isn't evidence for a lot of them, because they're just straight up made up.

It feels like trying to interact with a bot account--they can do little more than mindlessly copy other people's statements, and then are unable to interact properly with other people's responses due to not being human. If you are human, it would be nice if you would not spout off incorrect claims that there is no evidence for, especially after it has been pointed out to you that they are incorrect and there appears to be no evidence for them.
In Mark 14: 58 We heard him say, I will destroy this temple that is made with hands, and within three days I will build another made without hands. 59 But neither so did their witness agree together. 60 And the high priest stood up in the midst, and asked Jesus, saying, Answerest thou nothing? what is it which these witness against thee? 61 But he held his peace, and answered nothing.

Two points.

1) For the sake of intellectual honesty, please clearly indicate when the words you post are your own, and when they're quoted from others. It's easy enough to add quotation marks and a source citation when you're quoting someone else.

2) It does matter where you got your articles from. All of us rely on the ideas and experiences of others; of course we do. This is especially true of Christianity; we wouldn't know of Jesus' existence at all if others hadn't told us. But as you gather information from others, I recommend looking to high-quality sources of information. Read the Church Fathers. Read the great Orthodox and Catholic theologians, and the 16th-century Reformers, and the best modern scholars. They are much better sources to rely on than whatever Google coughs up.
Encyclopedias books where before google and the internet, even though they maybe saying the same thing.

So again--deflection. You do not back up a single claim you made or respond to a single point I made, and abruptly change the subject. Just like you did before.

It makes me wonder if perhaps I was more right than I thought when I made the following comment in my prior post (emphasis added):

It's not even just about forum rules. Failure to source and cite or indicate you are quoting another person is known as plagiarism. And it's considered bad form in any context for any reason.

If you aren't supplying your own original thoughts and words then it is a form of theft to attribute to oneself what belongs to another.

Jesus say in (Mat.7:21) “Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven”. For students to succeed in school, students learn to follow their teachers' instructions, and learn their lessons carefully. But few apply this method when they are dealing with the word of God. Is Jesus your Lord? Then why don’t you do the things he says. (Luke 6:46) “And why call ye me, Lord, Lord, and do not the things which I say”? He told you plainly: (Ex 20:8-10) (v.8) Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy. (v.9) Six days shalt thou labour, and do all thy work: (v.10) “But the seventh day is the Sabbath of the LORD thy God”.

Paul say in 2 Corinthians 11:4 For if he that cometh preacheth another Jesus, whom we have not preached, or if ye receive another spirit, which ye have not received, or another gospel, which ye have not accepted, ye might well bear with him. Now any Christian in their right mind wouldn’t dare say that it’s okay to steal, kill or commit adultery or break any of the other seven commandments. But when it comes to the fourth commandment, people avoid it like a plague! They are either uninformed about which day is the Sabbath day of the God of the Bible or they are just following the tradition of religion that was passed down through the family or maybe they have let some preacher give them other excuses for ignoring God’s true day of worship.

In (Gen.2:2-5) (v.2) And on the seventh day God ended his work which he had made; and he rested on the seventh day from all his work which he had made. (v.3) And God blessed the seventh day (every seventh day of the week is a blessed and holy day) and sanctified it (it is a day that is separated (sanctified) for a purpose) because that in it he had rested from all his work which God created and made. (v.5) “and there was not a man to till the ground.” There was not a Jew, Catholic, Baptist, or Seventh Day Adventist; in fact, there was not a Christian when He constituted the Sabbath Day!

Again you didn't provide a source. Your words need to be easily distinguished from the work being cited, quotation marks are one way to show this. Put the name of the author or authors at the end, along with the title of the work, the page number(s) and the date.

Jesus made it clear that the seventh day was made for mankind. (Mark 2:27-28) (v.27) And he said unto them, The Sabbath was made for man, and not man for the Sabbath: Do we understand that, the Sabbath was made for us, not us for the Sabbath. (v.28) Therefore the Son of man is Lord also of the Sabbath. The Son of man (Jesus) is the Lord God of the seventh day Sabbath (Saturday). (Ex.31:16-17) (v.16) Wherefore the children of Israel shall keep the Sabbath, to observe the Sabbath throughout their generations, for a perpetual covenant. (v.17) It is a sign between me and the children of Israel for ever: for in six days the LORD made heaven and earth, and on the seventh day he rested, and was refreshed. You see that the Sabbath day is a sign between God and His people forever. Israel was His people then and whoever chooses to obey Him now are His people.

“Tis the season to be jolly.” Peace on Earth and Goodwill to all men. These are sayings associated with Christmas, the day that Jesus the Christ was born; or was it? Certainly this could be a description of Christmas. Celebrations such as these were taking place among non-Christians centuries before Jesus Christ was born! Such customs do not come from the Bible. They have nothing to do with the birth of Jesus Christ. Jesus did not originate them, nor were they observed by the prophets (Old Testament) or the apostles (New Testament). We're going to examine Christmas, its origin and customs, and see if in fact Christmas is of God or Pagan. Should it be Celebrated or Rejected?

Peace on Earth and Goodwill to all men. Why, because we feed and shelter the less fortunate on this one day called Christmas? Shouldn't we care for the less fortunate all year long? Retailers increase the prices on merchandise, to try to recover from poor sales from the 1st three-quarters of the fiscal year.

Christmas (December 25th) is taught to be the day that Jesus the Christ was born. The fact is Jesus was not even born in the winter season. When Jesus was born, "there were shepherds abiding in the field, keeping watch over their flock by night." (Luke 2:8). This could never have occurred in Judea in the month of December. The shepherds always brought their flocks from the mountainsides and fields and corralled them no later than October, to protect them from the cold, rainy season that followed. Notice in Songs of Solomon 2:11 and Ezra 10:9, 13, that winter was a rainy season and typically the herds would most likely not be out in the rainy winter season. "It was an ancient custom among Jews of those days to send out their sheep to the fields and deserts about the Passover (early spring), and bring them home at commencement of the first rain," says the Adam Clarke Commentary (Vol. 5, page 370, New York ed.) Continuing, "During the time they were out, the shepherds watched them night and day. As..the first rain began early in the month of Marchesvan, which answers to part of our October and November (begins sometime in October), we find that the sheep were kept out in the open country during the whole summer. And, as these shepherds had not yet brought home their flocks, it is a presumptive argument that October had not yet commenced, and that, consequently, Jesus was not born on December 25th, when no flocks were out in the fields; nor could He have been born later than September, as the flocks were in the fields by night.

Therefore, to celebrate Jesus' birth date on December 25th is not scripturally sound. Any encyclopedia will tell you that Christ was not born on December 25th. The exact date of Jesus' birth is entirely unknown, as all authorities acknowledge - though by reading the scriptures, it strongly indicates His birth was in the early fall, probably September, approximately six months after Passover. This can also be found in the Catholic Encyclopedia 1967.

Some may say, "It does not matter when He was born. I am just celebrating His birth."; whereas others may say "Jesus is the reason for the season." Is that really the case? If Jesus is the reason for the season, then why didn't He let us know when to celebrate his birth? We claim we love Jesus so much but why don't we observe his death as he commanded us. Luke 22:19, "And he took bread, and gave thanks, and break it, and gave unto them, saying, This is my body which is given for you: this do in remembrance of me."

Why do we do things not written in the Bible?

Jesus said in (Matt. 16:24-27) (v.24) Then said Jesus unto his disciples, if any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me. That was the Lord’s burden, to die on the cross for the sins of man. Now as we read earlier every man must bear his own burden, and what is your burden? (v.25) For whosoever will save his life shall lose it: and whosoever will lose his life for my sake shall find it. You must give up your life in this world; you must not get caught up in the cares of this world. You must bring forth-good fruits of faith by keeping God’s commandments, statues, and judgments. (v.26) For what is a man profited, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul? Or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul?

Some of the great patriarchs in (Heb.11) gave up a lot, some even their lives in exchange for their soul. You see they had great faith (belief) that their souls (bodies) would be raised at the first resurrection. And some of you won’t even give up some of the littlest things like, going to church on Sunday, the pagan holidays of Christmas and Easter, praying to the Virgin Mary, I could go on and on. And most so-called Christians know these rituals have nothing to do with Jesus and the Bible, but a lot of work get put into them. But do they understand that they are offensive to God? Maybe it’s because they have more faith in man than God, maybe it’s because they fear how man is going to treat them, and don’t fear God. But listen up; (v.27) For the Son of man shall come in the glory of his Father with his holy angels; and then he shall reward every man according to his works. Now these are the words of Jesus (the Son of man), you know the savior of the world. He said that when he comes he is going to judge every man according to his works. Don't be deceived thinking you all you need to do is have faith in the Lord and you will be saved?

the pagan holidays of Christmas and Easter,

It has been demonstrated to you in this topic that your claims about Christmas and Easter are false. I find it problematic that you are continuing to assert this even though your errors have been demonstrated. It would be one thing if you had any kind of response to them, but you don't--you have repeatedly just ignored or deflected the various posts of people pointing out your errors in these matters.

You are deeply mistaken about the nature of Christian worship. I am not going to stop gathering with my fellow Christians to worship God, and I am not going to stop observing the Incarnation, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ.

I understand that you disapprove of traditional Christian forms of worship. But note that there is a vast difference between something being offensive to you and something being offensive to God.

No, I am not going to give up the "littlest things" like my Christian faith just to please you.

Throughout the bible we find that in order to receive eternal salvation we must keep God's commandments to the end. If we make a mistake we must not give up, but I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus (Philippians 3:13-14). The last chapter in the whole bible reminds us of this one last time. "Blessed are they that do his commandments that they may have right to the tree of life." (Revelation 22:14). After this we find only seven more verses in the bible, and none of them does away with God's commandments.

The commandments of God are not hard to keep (I John 5:3) and furthermore, they teach us love in the highest degree. If you love Jesus you will keep his commandments (St. John 14:15). You will not displease the Lord by: Worshipping other gods, having graven images, taking his name in vain, adhere to God's dietary laws in Lev.11ch, breaking his Sabbath day (which is Saturday not Sunday), or dishonoring your parents. On the other hand, if you love your neighbor as yourself you will not kill him, commit adultery with his spouse, steal from him, falsely accuse him, or covet anything of his. Stop committing fornication.

This is true love, and if obeyed how much better would our world be? This is why Jesus said that the two greatest commandments are loving the Lord with all your heart, soul, and mind; and loving your neighbor as yourself (Matthew 22:35-40). These two commandments are the foundation of the entire law. Many reject the law, but it is holy, and the commandment holy, and just, and good (Romans 7:12) even today.

No I haven't and I apologies about that, also I haven't post Christmas or Easter historically without source since. I find it problematic that you are continuing to assert old matters because I mention Christmas and Easter. Neither one is written in the Bible to do, so that means it comes from an out source tradition created by man. Since the Lord is the author of eternal salvation we can only obtain it by serving him his way (Hebrews 5:9). The bible speaks of only one way to get eternal salvation. "One Lord, one faith, one baptism, one God and Father of all, who is above all, and through all, and in you all.(Ephesians 4:5,6).

Remember in Acts 7: 38 This is he, that was in the church in the wilderness with the angel which spake to him in the mount Sina, and with our fathers: who received the lively oracles to give unto us: Everything is and was already set in order to do in the days of Moses, even til this day. Doesn't matter if you believe it or not, because it's already written, and no one can rewrite can it. The church didn't start after the death of Jesus, nor in Paul days, but way back in the wilderness, and definitely not with a another nation of people.

Nice try, but the feast of dedication is totally different from Christmas Pagan festival. I'm going to post a history of where Christmas came from.
Christmas (Christ's Mass) is not a pagan festival. It is a Catholic feast day that commemorates the birth of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior.

Christians do not celebrate or worship false gods on December 25. Christians worship Jesus, the incarnate Son of God the Father, on December 25. We also worship God the Father and God the Holy Spirit on this feast day. We commemorate the birth of Jesus Christ every December 25th. Was he actually born on December 25? It doesn't matter.

It also doesn't matter what anyone else (pagan or not) celebrates on December 25.

Who makes all the days? God makes/creates all the days; therefore, all the days are good.

How you use each of his good days is what matters to him!

If you use his good day to do good things, he is pleased.
If you use his good day to do evil things, he is displeased.

Worshiping God (Father, Son, Holy Spirit) on every December 25th to commemorate the incarnate birth of God's only begotten Son is definitely pleasing to Him.

I understand that you disapprove of traditional Christian forms of worship. But note that there is a vast difference between something being offensive to you and something being offensive to God.

No, I am not going to give up the "littlest things" like my Christian faith just to please you.

Outstanding - in this moment you make me glad to have been an Episcopalian (if I lived in Manhattan I probably would be going to St. Thomas Fifth Ave.)
