  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Pity the president has antagonized Denmark and our other allies precluding us from expanding our presence there when before that could have been done with little more than some emailing.
Huh? We already have more troops in Greenland than Denmark does. I think it's pretty clear that if we wanted to expand our defense presence there would be no objection. We don't need to own Greenland to do pretty much anything we're likely to want. This is Trump's equivalent of Putin's desire to own Ukraine.

Those Denmarxists need to be taught a lesson. We need to seize and nationalize Legos and rename them "Liberty Blocks"

I agree that the spending should have been increased, and for most countries, it is above 2%.
And on schedule as agreed during Obama's presidency. Except for two major counties, Spain and Italy if I remember correctly. They we could point a finger at, everyone else was at 2% or above.

As a side note, the figure is a bit harder to compare. Budgets are done a bit differently, and in the US, all healthcare costs for example for the military are within the budget, while for most (if not all) European counties, healthcare for military is a separate budget item.

What do you know about liberty, Bradskii, by supporting Danish Imperialism?

Pot calling the kettle black?
What imperialism? The one where Greenland has a path to full independence and one where the PM of Greenland says that they choose Denmark over the USA?

Fact is, Greenland happens to be positioned in a place that is perfect for the East end of a missile defense dome, that can protect an entire continent against Russian aggression.
Except that Greenland NOR Denmark wants the US to have Greenland and if Trump chooses to keep pressing the issue something tells me other countries will not be all he have to worry about I could see it getting awfully violent awfully quickly over here. I could even see some members of the military basically saying take me to court if you want to but that is the ONLY way you will keep "control" of me.

This is a matter of opinion because I feel our allies abandoned us a while back for not preparing themselves for the future, and left us to fight two superpowers. What person in their right mind would think China would be friendly to us as we turned them into a superpower?
If the world were to gang up on the US I do not think we would stand much of a chance (particularly if our own people and military defacted in any large numbers. Which considering that the number of Americans in polls that oppose military action in Greenland I have seen numbers as LOW as 62% and as high as 96% including a sizeable percentage of Republicans I think that would probably be something that could reasonably happen.

Regardless of future "promises", Greenland is currently under the control of Danish imperialism. Facts are facts.

...The other half of the fact is that Greenland has *never* been willingly under Danish imperialism.

What is the greater good? And entirely protected North America (and Greenland)..? Or angry Europeans?

Who really knows in the long run, but it's worth talking about.

What about the security of 620 million people? Does that matter? Should it matter? These are valuable questions.

What would happen to Europe, if the United States became a crippled giant? I think it could be catastrophic.

given how much of a threat the US has been To canada, and talks about becoming the 51st state, maybe canada should invade again and burn down the white house again!! wonder what colours it will be this time.

You're talking about Greenland; I was talking about something else. I also don't want to take over Greenland because of the costs involved in securing this whole area; I'd like the focus to be on South America with our money. So far EU has talked the talk. I want to see them walk. Seems they are struggling to provide for Ukraine, and now have to build a navy?

I support the Greenlanders having the freedom to make decisions about their own country themselves. It seems that you don't. That doesn't appear to tie in with your earlier support of liberty. Taking someone else's country (like Russia is trying to do with Ukraine) is the very opposite of liberty.

We captured Venezuela oil precisely so we could make our own Legos from it.

I'd like to think that any suggestion to 'take over Greenland' would be rejected out of hand as being completely immoral. As opposed to 'Gee, we shouldn't do it because it'll cost too much'.

I wasn't aware that morality was dependent on an associated dollar cost.

We're not talking about "taking" though. This isn't so much about ownership either, as nobody is going to bulldoze people's homes, and rebuild...It's just a shift in governance.

As to your question on some other government taking over the U.S., it would depend on a lot of things, whether I would be OK with it or not.

Do you think Greenland is capable of supporting itself independently? My understanding is that it would require jumping many difficult hurdles to do so. Economically, it seems highly unlikely to be successful.

I feel like Greenland needs support to survive. I feel like the United States is far more capable of filling that role than Denmark is.

We need to be real about this, rather than purely emotional. It's a bummer that they have difficult living conditions, and a lacking population, but things are the way they are.
