  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Renee Good had up to four gunshots after ICE shooting

When first responders reached Renee Nicole Good after she was shot by an Immigration and Customs Enforcement officer on Jan. 7, she had an irregular pulse, was not breathing and had suffered up to four gunshots, according to incident reports obtained by multiple news outlets.

According to a Fire Department incident report obtained by the news outlets, Good sustained two gunshot wounds to the right side of her chest, a third on her left forearm and a possible fourth on the left side of her head. Blood was flowing from her left ear. Paramedics performed CPR in an ambulance on the way to a hospital, but the resuscitation efforts were stopped at about 10:30 a.m., the outlets reported.

Well, at least we know ICE's pistol training is effective. Local LEO's would've been more likely to take out a bunch of bystanders.

I'm guessing that was more his military training.

Minneapolis woman says federal agents conducted search warrant in wrong home

They have to be through. Look how long the criminal Ann Frank was able to avoid the law and deportation.

Vehicles that are abandoned due to an ICE detention and towed to the City's impound lot will be released to their owners or a representative at no cost.

This surge has resulted in tangible harm to the state of Minnesota and its people, as well as the cities of Minneapolis and Saint Paul. As a result of this surge, municipalities have been forced to divert local law enforcement resources away from their normal public safety duties, emergency responder resources have been strained, schools have been forced into lockdowns and closures, businesses have been forced to close, and the rights of Minnesotans have been violated time and time again.

The State and the cities allege the surge amounts to a violation of the First and Tenth Amendments of the Constitution, as well as the Constitution’s guarantee of equal sovereignty between state and federal governments. They also allege the surge violates the Administrative Procedure Act.

The State and the cities seek an end to Operation Metro Surge and the deployments of thousands of DHS agents to Minnesota, as well as an end to the unlawful behaviors of DHS agents within the state, including but not limited to:

  • using force against individuals peacefully engaging in constitutionally protected speech;
  • arresting, threatening and using force against innocent bystanders;
  • pointing firearms at individuals who pose no threat to DHS agents; and
  • carrying out enforcement actions at sensitive locations like schools, churches, hospitals.
“The unlawful deployment of thousands of armed, masked, and poorly trained federal agents is hurting Minnesota,” said Attorney General Ellison. “People are being racially profiled, harassed, terrorized, and assaulted. Schools have gone into lockdown. Businesses have been forced to close. Minnesota police are spending countless hours dealing with the chaos ICE is causing. This federal invasion of the Twin Cities has to stop, so today I am suing DHS to bring it to an end.”
The easiest solution to the problem is for sanctuary cities to stop harboring criminals.

Rumor: ICE is dropping injured detainees in the middle of your public parks—with signs of being beate

Makes sense if this is true:

ICE has stopped paying for detainee medical treatment

ICE halted payments in October, and the situation will persist for at least several more months

An even easier one is for ICE to stop racially profiling people and violating our constitutional rights.

Minneapolis duo details their ICE detention, including pressure to rat on protest organizers

Sigüenza and O’Keefe, who are among an unknown number of Twin Cities residents observing the immigration officers in action, were detained Sunday while following ICE officers who were driving around and making arrests. The officers stopped in front of O’Keefe’s car, fired pepper spray through her windshield vent and smashed her car’s windows even though the doors were unlocked, the two told The Associated Press.

According to O’Keefe, the agents mocked her looks and laughed at her. She said they also brought up the killing of Good, a 37-year-old mother of three who was shot in the head last week by an ICE officer in front of her wife.

O’Keefe said the officer who sprayed their car Sunday threatened them, saying that “obstructing” their work was how Good got killed.

“It was very clear that they were trying to just humiliate me, break me down,” O’Keefe said.

-----
On their way to the cells, they saw other detainees who were screaming and wailing for help, though most were dejectedly staring at the ground, they said. In one instance, they observed a woman who was trying to use a toilet while three male agents watched. The overwhelming majority of detainees were Hispanic men, though some were East African — Minnesota is home to the country’s largest Somali community.

“Just hearing the visceral pain of the people in this center was awful,” O’Keefe said. “And then you juxtapose that with the laughter we heard from the actual agents. ... It was very surreal and kind of shocking.”

Sigüenza said one of his cellmates had a cut on his head and the other had an injured toe, but neither was offered medical help. Their requests for water or to go to the bathroom outside their cells were also ignored, he said.

O’Keefe and Sigüenza were able to speak with lawyers, but only Sigüenza allowed to make a phone call — he called his wife.

I disagree. Your proposed solution still allows criminals on the streets.

What's wrong with that? I suspect most people roaming the streets have committed one crime or another at some point. Heck, I once shoplifted a Hot Wheels toy car when I was ten, should ICE round me up?

I am serious.

The fact is, everyone in the US is presumed innocent of any crime until and unless proven guilty in a court of law, and no one can be arrested for any crime without probable cause. Further, if you are detained by law enforcement because you are suspected of being involved in a crime, you still have legal rights. They cannot detain you more than 24-48 hours (depending on the jurisdiction) and they cannot prevent you from having legal representation.

These are the bedrock principles upon which our legal system is based, and they hold true for everyone within the US, regardless of citizenship status.

We do not live in a police state, no matter how hard Trump is trying to turn the country into one.

-- A2SG, though I wasn't serious about ICE picking me up for the toy car....the statute of limitations ran out on that a while ago....

Yes. Proven guilty in a court of law. How the heck on earth do these illegal immigrants see their day in court unless they are arrested, booked, and given a court date when these sanctuary cities just release them back on the streets?
