Esther is the only book in the Bible that does not mention God's name; so what is the reason for this peculiar anomaly?

God allowed rebellious Israel to be taken captive into Babylon for 70 years because they were whoring after false gods, which caused the Lord to hide his face from his people (Deu 31:16-18). Then after the Jews were set free from their captivity by Cyrus so they could return to Jerusalem to worship the Lord, the majority of Israel chose to stay in Babylon and Persia.

And Mordecai, who commanded Esther to keep her Jewish identity hidden (Est 2:10, 19-20), reveals that the Jews in Persia were being persecuted, and they were scorned if they mentioned the name of the Lord, which is implied in this story by the absence of God's name (Amos 6:8-10).

Amos 6:10 And when one's relative, the one who anoints him for burial, shall take him up to bring the bones out of the house, and shall say to him who is in the innermost parts of the house, "Is there still anyone with you?" he shall say, "No"; and he shall say, "Silence! We must not mention the name of the LORD."

Israel was divinely called to worship the LORD and was given the responsibility to reveal God's perfect law to sinful mankind, but instead they turned away from the LORD and served false gods made of wood and stone. Therefore, Israel was cast out of their land and into the nations where they would be ridiculed and persecuted so they would return to loving the Lord with all their heart and soul (Deu 4:23-31).

And this Word from God is being fulfilled in this present day by Jews who are experiencing increasing persecution throughout the world, which is a witness and a warning for the ungodly nations to repent and seek God's forgiveness for their sins through faith in Jesus Christ.

Deuteronomy 28:15-16, 36-37 "But if you (Israel) will not obey the voice of the LORD your God or be careful to do all his commandments and his statutes that I command you today, then all these curses shall come upon you and overtake you.........(36) "The LORD will bring you and your king whom you set over you to a nation (Babylon) that neither you nor your fathers have known. And there you shall serve other gods of wood and stone. (37) And you shall become a horror, a proverb, and a byword among all the peoples where the LORD will lead you away.

Zechariah 8:13 And as you have been a byword of cursing among the nations, O house of Judah and house of Israel, so will I save you, and you shall be a blessing. Fear not, but let your hands be strong."

Although God's name appears to be non-existent, it is veiled within 4 acrostics in Esther, which reveals the Lord was working behind the scenes through Esther and the heart of the king to save Israel from Haman's evil plan to kill all the Jews.

For example:
Esther 4:13-14 Then Mordecai told them to reply to Esther, "Do not think to yourself that in the king's palace you will escape (persecution) any more than all the other Jews. (14) For if you keep silent at this time, relief and deliverance will rise for the Jews from another place, but you and your father's house will perish. And who knows whether you have not come to the kingdom (by God's design) for such a time as this?"

In Proverbs 21:1, the scriptures reveal that God is able to cause the decisions that a king makes in his heart. And this is what the Lord did to the heart of King Ahasuerus through Queen Esther and her request to save her people.

Pro 21:1 A king’s heart is like streams of water in the LORD’s hand: He directs it wherever He chooses.
Esther 5:2-3 And when the king saw Queen Esther standing in the court, she won favor in his sight, and he held out to Esther the golden scepter that was in his hand. Then Esther approached and touched the tip of the scepter. (3) And the king said to her, "What is it, Queen Esther? What is your request? It shall be given you, even to the half of my kingdom."
Esther 7:1-6 So the king and Haman went in to feast with Queen Esther. (2) And on the second day, as they were drinking wine after the feast, the king again said to Esther, "What is your wish, Queen Esther? It shall be granted you. And what is your request? Even to the half of my kingdom, it shall be fulfilled." (3) Then Queen Esther answered, "If I have found favor in your sight, O king, and if it please the king, let my life be granted me for my wish, and my people for my request. (4) For we have been sold, I and my people, to be destroyed, to be killed, and to be annihilated........ (5) Then King Ahasuerus said to Queen Esther, "Who is he, and where is he, who has dared to do this?" (6) And Esther said, "A foe and enemy! This wicked Haman!" Then Haman was terrified before the king and the queen.........(10) And the king said, "Hang him on that." So they hanged Haman on the gallows that he had prepared for Mordecai. Then the wrath of the king abated.

The Antichrist demands to be worshiped as God
I believe the absence of God's name in this account of Haman's plot to kill all the Jews is divinely intended to be a prophetic picture for the Antichrist's plan to kill all Israel in the tribulation, when he will exalt himself against every so-called god or object of worship and demand to be worshiped as God, or else you will be put to death for worshiping the Lord or mentioning God's name.

2 Thessalonians 2:3-4 Let no one deceive you in any way. For that day will not come, unless the rebellion comes first, and the man of lawlessness is revealed, the son of destruction, (4) who opposes and exalts himself against every so-called god or object of worship, so that he takes his seat in the temple of God, proclaiming himself to be God.
Rev 13:15 And it was allowed to give breath to the image of the beast, so that the image of the beast might even speak and might cause those who would not worship the image of the beast to be killed.
Rev 6:9-10 When he opened the fifth seal, I saw under the altar the souls of those who had been slain for the word of God and for the witness they had borne. (10) They cried out with a loud voice, "O Sovereign Lord, holy and true, how long before you will judge and avenge our blood on those who dwell on the earth?"

Because of Israel's great fear of persecution and death by the Antichrist when he proclaims to be God, the Jews will be afraid to mention God's name. While the tribulation saints who dare to confess Jesus is Lord will be put to death for their faith in Christ (Dan 7:23-25, Rev 6:9-11, 20:4).

They never used the name of Jesus
In the following testimony by Ken Peters, he speaks about a prophetic dream of the tribulation that he had in 1980. Ken said that he was standing in a long line of people when persecutors began to grill the people by telling them to renounce their faith. They would never use the name Jesus, they would never use the name Jesus Christ, they would never use the name God, but they would say you should renounce your faith in him while you can still live and your faith is empty. It was a blasphemous kind of challenging against the people standing in line, and every so often somebody would crack.

Ken's prophetic dream is revealing that the absence of God's name in the book of Esther is prophetic for the Antichrist's censoring of the name of Jesus, the God of Israel, or any other false god during the tribulation (2 Th 2:4).

However, when Israel is surrounded by the nations and at the point of death, a faithful remnant will humble themselves and say, “Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord,” when Jesus who is the face of God will return to save his persecuted people from their enemies (Zec 12:9-10, John 14:9).

1.6.png

Matthew 23:39 For I tell you, you will not see me again, until you say, 'Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord.'"
Jesus was quoting from Psalm 118, which is describing Israel's salvation and victory over all their enemies at the end of the tribulation, because they called on the name of the Lord by faith (Zec 13:8-9).

Psalms 118:9-27 It is better to take refuge in the LORD than to trust in princes. (10) All nations surrounded me (in the tribulation); in the name of the LORD I cut them off! (11) They surrounded me, surrounded me on every side; in the name of the LORD I cut them off! (12) They surrounded me like bees; they went out like a fire among thorns; in the name of the LORD I cut them off!.......(14) The LORD is my strength and my song; he has become my salvation. (15) Glad songs of salvation are in the tents of the righteous: "The right hand of the LORD does valiantly, (16) the right hand of the LORD exalts, the right hand of the LORD does valiantly!" (17) I shall not die, but I shall live, and recount the deeds of the LORD. (18) The LORD has disciplined me severely, but he has not given me over to death. (19) Open to me the gates of righteousness, that I may enter through them and give thanks to the LORD. (20) This is the gate of the LORD; the righteous shall enter through it. (21) I thank you that you have answered me (Jesus) and have become my salvation. (22) The stone (called Jesus) that the builders rejected (and crucified) has become the cornerstone. (23) This is the LORD's doing; it is marvelous in our eyes. (24) This is the day that the LORD has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it. (25) Save us, we pray, O LORD! O LORD, we pray, give us success! (26) Blessed is he who comes in the name of the LORD! We bless you from the house of the LORD. (27) The LORD is God, and he has made his light to shine upon us.

Zechariah 13:8-9 In the whole land, declares the LORD, two thirds (of Israel) shall be cut off and perish, and one third shall be left alive (in the tribulation). (9) And I will put this third into the fire, and refine them as one refines silver, and test them as gold is tested. They will call upon my name, and I will answer them. I will say, 'They are my people'; and they will say, 'The LORD is my God.'"

Queen Vashti who was beautiful refused to appear before the King
Esther 1:10-12 On the seventh day, when the heart of the king was merry with wine, he commanded (his servants).......(11) to bring Queen Vashti before the king with her royal crown, in order to show the peoples and the princes her beauty, for she was lovely to look at. (12) But Queen Vashti refused to come at the king's command delivered by the eunuchs. At this the king became enraged, and his anger burned within him.

Queen Vashti who was lovely to look at but refused to obey the king's command, is a type for Satan, who was proud of his beauty and rebelled that was cast out of God's Kingdom (Eze 28:14-18, Isa 14:12-15). And just as Queen Vashti was replaced by another who is better (Est 1:19), that is Esther and the virgins, Satan and the demons will be replaced by a faithful remnant of Israel and the church.

Ezekiel 28:14-18 You (Satan) were an anointed guardian cherub. I placed you; you were on the holy mountain of God; in the midst of the stones of fire you walked. (15) You were blameless in your ways from the day you were created, till unrighteousness was found in you. (16) In the abundance of your trade you were filled with violence in your midst, and you sinned; so I cast you as a profane thing from the mountain of God, and I destroyed you, O guardian cherub, from the midst of the stones of fire. (17) Your heart was proud because of your beauty; you corrupted your wisdom for the sake of your splendor. I cast you to the ground; I exposed you before kings, to feast their eyes on you. (18) By the multitude of your iniquities, in the unrighteousness of your trade you profaned your sanctuaries; so I brought fire out from your midst; it consumed you, and I turned you to ashes on the earth in the sight of all who saw you.
Isaiah 14:12-15 "How you are fallen from heaven, O Lucifer, son of Dawn! How you are cut down to the ground, you who laid the nations low! (13) You said in your heart, 'I will ascend to heaven; above the stars of God I will set my throne on high; I will sit on the mount of assembly in the far reaches of the north; (14) I will ascend above the heights of the clouds; I will make myself like the Most High.' (15) But you are brought down to Sheol, to the far reaches of the pit.
Mordecai was second in rank to the King
Mordecai, who was second in rank to King Ahasuerus and spoke peace to all his people, is symbolic for Jesus, who will rule under the authority of his heavenly Father, bringing peace to all Israel. While King Ahasuerus represents the Father in Heaven.

Esther 10:3 For Mordecai the Jew was second in rank to King Ahasuerus, and he was great among the Jews and popular with the multitude of his brothers, for he sought the welfare of his people and spoke peace to all his people.
Esther 8:2 And the king took off his signet ring, which he had taken from Haman, and gave it to Mordecai. And Esther set Mordecai (Jesus) over the house of Haman (the Antichrist and Satan).
Mordecai who is a type for Jesus, wore a royal robe of blue, white, and purple
  • Esther 8:15 Then Mordecai (a type for Jesus) went out from the presence of the king (the Father)
in royal robes of blue (which represents Jesus came from heaven above, Ex 24:10)
  • and white (which represents righteousness, Isa 1:18),
  • with a great golden crown (Jesus was crowned with thorns--our sins—when he became our Savior and King)
  • and a robe of fine linen and purple (purple, which is the combination of blue and red, represents Jesus who came from the blue heavens above to shed his red blood on the cross for our sins so he could be clothed in purple, which is the garment of Kings, see Mark 15:17-18) and the city of Susa shouted and rejoiced.
  • The high priest's colorful garment of blue, purple and scarlet yarn, which is symbolic for Jesus sacrifice on the cross when he became our Savior, King, and High Priest, is mentioned in Exodus 39:1-31.
  • Exodus 39:1 From the blue and purple and scarlet yarns they made finely woven garments, for ministering in the Holy Place. They made the holy garments for Aaron (the high priest), as the LORD had commanded Moses.

Hegai beautified the King's virgins
Hegai, who was in charge of beautifying the virgins with six months of oil of myrrh and six months of spices and ointments so they could go in to the presence of the king (Est 2:3, 12-15), is a type for the Holy Spirit who progressively sanctifies the saints (Rom 6:19, 1Th 4:3-4, 2Th 2:13, 2Peter 3:13-14) so they may become the beautiful bride of Christ (Rev 19:7-8).

Haman plotted to kill all the Jews
Haman, who had 10 sons and plotted to kill all the Jews (Est 9:12), represents the Antichrist and 10 kings who will serve with him for one hour in the tribulation (Rev 17:12).
Mordecai took his cousin Esther as his own daughter
Mordecai and Esther were cousins. And when Esther's father and mother died, Mordecai took Esther as his own daughter.

Esther 2:5-7 Now there was a Jew in Susa the citadel whose name was Mordecai, the son of Jair, son of Shimei, son of Kish, a Benjaminite,........(7) He was bringing up Hadassah, that is Esther, the daughter of his uncle, for she had neither father nor mother. The young woman had a beautiful figure and was lovely to look at, and when her father and her mother died, Mordecai took her as his own daughter.
At a first glance, Mordecai, who was a cousin of Esther and took her as his own daughter, seems to be an insignificant detail in this story. However, in scripture, the natural at times is meant to be a picture of the spiritual (1Cor 15:46).

So what does Mordecai's cousin Esther spiritually represent?
Now this is difficult to explain but spiritually important to understand.
  • Cousins are related through their parents who are also related.
  • For example:
  • Mary the mother of Jesus was a relative of Elizabeth (Luke 1:36), who was the mother of John the baptist. Therefore, Jesus and John the Baptist may have been cousins.
  • John the Baptist was born in sinful flesh as a descendant of the Aaronic priesthood (Luke 1:5), so John was qualified to be a high priest of the Old Covenant Law. And the high priest was considered to be the greatest in Israel since he interceded to God for the sins of the nation.
  • Jesus implied that John was in the symbolic role of Israel's high priest when he said, “Truly, I say to you, among those born of women there has arisen no one greater than John the Baptist (as Israel's high priest). Yet the one who is (born-again in righteousness and) least in the kingdom of heaven is greater than he.” (since the Old Covenant high priest like John the Baptist is guilty of sin and unrighteous before God, Matthew 11:11)
  • Now Jesus who is eternal, was born as the righteous Son of God through the Holy Spirit and by the will of his heavenly Father as the High Priest of an everlasting New Covenant in the order of Melchizedek (Heb 7:1-3, 11-17). And Jesus came to die for the sins of mankind to redeem his cousin sinful Israel, represented by John the Baptist, the last unrighteous high priest of the Old Covenant law that reveals all mankind is guilty of sin.
  • Therefore, Mordecai, who took his cousin Esther to be his own daughter after her father and mother died, spiritually represents Jesus who receives sinful mankind as his born-again sons and daughters when we have died to our old sinful life by believing Jesus bore God's wrath for our sins on the cross. Which is symbolically represented by the death of Esther's father and mother (the death of Esther's old life of sin, Mat 10:37) when Mordecai took his cousin as his own daughter.
  • And Mordecai, who received and raised his cousin Esther as his own daughter and instructed her to ask the king to save Israel from Haman's evil plot to kill all the Jews, could also be prophetic for the 144,000 Jews who become born-again sons of God that faithfully follow Jesus wherever he goes, as they share the gospel and pray to the Father in heaven to save unrighteous Israel from their debt of sin and the Antichrist's satanic plan to kill all the Jews in the tribulation (Rev 7:2-4, 14:2-4).
  • Another important example of a cousin's redemption is when Jeremiah was in prison, his cousin asked him to redeem his land that was in debt (Jer 32:6-15). So Jeremiah paid 17 shekels of silver and redeemed his cousin's land. (Silver represents atonement for our lives, Ex 30:11-16)
  • Jeremiah, who was in prison when he was asked to redeem his cousin's land for 17 shekels of silver, is symbolic for Jesus, who became a prisoner of the cross and died for our sins and was raised 3 days later on the 17th of Nisan to redeem his unrighteous cousin Israel and mankind from their debt of sin.
Hidden clues in Esther for the beginning and end of the tribulation
The Feast of Trumpets, which begins in the 7th month, 1st day for Israel, is prophetic for the spiritual darkness of the tribulation when the day of the LORD will begin (Amos 5:18, Joel 2:1-2) in the 7th millennium, 1st day from Adam (Lev 23:24, Num 29:1).

While the 7th month, 10th Day of Atonement (Lev 23:26-29) when the national sins of Israel are forgiven, represents the end of the tribulation when a remnant of the Jews will be forgiven and set free from sin, death, and the Antichrist, when Jesus returns to save Israel after Daniel's 490 years of judgment have been completed (Lev 25:8-10, Dan 9:24).

Now what's interesting is the scriptures in Genesis 7:1 and 7:10 and Esther 7:1 and 7:10 seem to be referring to the 7th month, 1st day of the Feast of Trumpets and the 7th month, 10th day of Atonement, which are symbolic for the beginning and end of the tribulation.
For example:
  • In Genesis 7:1, Noah, who was righteous and entered the ark to escape the waters of the flood, represents the rapture at beginning of the tribulation in the 7th millennium, 1st day when the Feast of Trumpets begins.
  • While Genesis 7:10 says, “And after 7 days (7 years of tribulation) the waters of the flood came upon the earth” (that destroyed wicked mankind), which represents the end of the tribulation in the 7th month, 10th Day of Atonement, when everyone's fate is eternally sealed as they are written in the book of the wicked or the book of the righteous (Rev 20:11-15).
1.9.png
  • And in Esther 7:1 it says, “So the king and Haman went in to the feast with Queen Esther.” Which represents the beginning of the tribulation in the 7th millennium, 1st day that's known as the Feast of Trumpets.
  • And in Esther 7:10, Haman, who plotted to kill all the Jews and was hanged on the gallows, is prophetic for the Antichrist who will be defeated and cast into hell at the end of the tribulation that's represented by the 7th month, 10th Day of Atonement.
1.13.png

In several previous studies I discussed the scriptures that appear to be pointing to the years of 2031 to 2038 for the tribulation. And there are two important verses in the book of Esther that may be pointing to these years, Esther 2:9 and 2:16.

Esther 2:9 And the young woman (Esther) pleased him (the king) and won his favor. And he quickly provided her with her cosmetics and her portion of food, and with seven chosen young women from the king's palace, and advanced her and her young women to the best place in the harem.

The seven young virgins who were advanced to the best place in the kings harem could be referring the rapture of the saints to the best place in heaven when the seven year tribulation begins. And Esther 2:9 is the 31st verse from Esther 1:1, which could be a clue for the year of 2031 when these rapture events will take place.

And Esther 2:16 is the 38th verse from Esther 1:1, when Esther went into the royal palace in the 7th year, 10th month to be crowned as queen, which is a clue for the 7th month, 10th Day of Atonement when a faithful remnant of Israel will receive their heavenly crowns at the end of the tribulation in 2038 (Isa 62:1-5).

Esther 2:16-17 And when Esther was taken to King Ahasuerus, into his royal palace, in the tenth month, which is the month of Tebeth, in the seventh year of his reign, (17) the king loved Esther more than all the women, and she won grace and favor in his sight more than all the virgins, so that he set the royal crown on her head and made her queen instead of Vashti.
The End of the 6th Millennial Day
And consider this last verse in the first chapter of Genesis, which is 1:31, And God saw everything that he had made, and behold, it was very good. And there was evening and there was morning, the sixth day.

The end of the 6th day
in Genesis 1:31, may be a clue for the end of the 6th millennial day in 2031 that will be followed by the 7th millennium, 1st day when the tribulation begins. Then 7 verses later in Genesis 2:7, which is the 38th verse from Gen 1:1, God breathed his Spirit into man, which may be symbolic for when a faithful remnant of Israel will receive the Holy Spirit at the end of the tribulation in 2038.

I believe the beginning of the tribulation is also hidden in John 20:30 and 20:31. And 7 verses later (or 7 years later in 2038) in John 21:7, Peter was fishing and did not recognize his risen Savior on shore until he was told it was Jesus. And when Peter knew it was Jesus he jumped into the water to be with the Lord. And this was the third time that Jesus was revealed to his disciples after he was raised from the dead (John 21:14).

fish 28.1.png

John 21:3-4, 7, 14 Simon Peter said to them, "I am going fishing." They said to him, "We will go with you." They went out and got into the boat, but that night they caught nothing. (4) Just as day was breaking, Jesus stood on the shore; yet the disciples did not know that it was Jesus........(7) That disciple (John) whom Jesus loved therefore said to Peter, "It is the Lord!" When Simon Peter heard that it was the Lord, he put on his outer garment, for he was stripped for work, and threw himself into the sea (to be with Jesus on shore).......(14) This was now the third time that Jesus was revealed to the disciples after he was raised from the dead.
fish 46.png

This story of Jesus appearing after his resurrection to his partially blinded disciples, who at first did not recognize him (John 21:1-14), is prophetic for a remnant of Israel who will not recognize Jesus until they are given a spirit of grace so they may know their risen Savior who was crucified for their sins, when Jesus returns to save Israel at the end of the tribulation (Zec 12:9-10).

Zechariah 12:9-10 And on that day I will seek to destroy all the nations that come against Jerusalem. (10) "And I will pour out on the house of David and the inhabitants of Jerusalem a spirit of grace and pleas for mercy, so that, when they look on me, on him whom they have pierced, they shall mourn for him, as one mourns for an only child, and weep bitterly over him, as one weeps over a firstborn (Son of God).

It also appears that the years of the tribulation are hidden in Ezekiel 20:31 to 20:38.

And finally, I believe this last verse in Proverbs, which is 31:31, is speaking of the rapture of the faithful saints in 2031 (Isa 26:19-21, 1Th 5:2-4), just before the tribulation begins when their works for the Lord will be praised as they enter the gates of heaven.

Proverbs 31:31 Give her (the virtuous wife) of the fruit of her hands, and let her works (for the Lord) praise her in the gates (of heaven).

Proverbs 25:2 It is the glory of God to conceal a matter, but the glory of kings is to search things out.
Jeremiah 33:3 Call to me and I will answer you, and will tell you great and hidden things that you have not known.
