  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I dont think I have any of his books, thank God. Unless they were from a long time ago.

I still have three of his books. He had things to say that were worthwhile, and I think they were written before his affair but I can't be sure.

I'll hang on to them. If what he said is correct or has intellectual value, then his fall from grace makes no difference.

King David had an affair with Bathsheba and yet their second son Solomon was the one who inherited the Davidic kingdom.

My Presbyterian pastor had misgivings about the fate of St. Augustine of Hippo, commenting "He fooled around with those women for a long time".

Yet today we regard Augustine of HIppo as one of the most influential church fathers.

I hope Yancey and his wife can ride out the spiritual storm, and disillusionment on her part.
