  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

ExxonMobil Chairman and CEO Darren Woods delivered these remarks at the White House

I’ll just share a philosophy that ExxonMobil has when we enter countries—because we do business all around the world, in a number of different regimes—we take a very long‑term perspective. The investments that we make span decades and decades. So, we do not go into any opportunity with a short-term mindset.

There's a value proposition that we have to meet. It has to be a win‑win‑win proposition. Obviously, it has to be a win for the company and our shareholders, generating a return for the investments that we make. It has to be a win for the government. The resources are an important source of revenue that help support the people of the places that we do business. And it has to be a win for the people. We have to be wanted there— and to be a good neighbor. And those three things ensure a stable, long‑term platform for the large investments that we make for the long term.

If we look at the legal and commercial constructs—frameworks—in place today in Venezuela, today it’s uninvestable. And so significant changes have to be made to those commercial frameworks, the legal system, there has to be durable investment protections, and there has to be a change to the hydrocarbon laws in the country.

We’re confident that with this Administration and President Trump working hand‑in‑hand with the Venezuelan government that those changes can be put in place. And with respect to the Venezuelan government—that perspective—we don’t have a view on. We haven’t talked to the Venezuelan government, and obviously we have yet to assess the people’s perspective with respect to ExxonMobil entering the country.

With the invitation of the Venezuelan government and with appropriate security guarantees, we are ready to put a team on the ground there. [to assess the current situation]
We welcome this opportunity to remain on the sidelines until things are settled

@wing2000 has a point, I've participated enough in leading the discussion astray. It is just a pet peeve of mine when talking about Europe as a whole (it's almost never correct, I don't think your use of it was either).
Yeah I started to realise that when I started finding all these strange fringe parties and even opposing parties willing to join together if it meant getting into power.

But my point that the example was being used I think is still relevant. Specifically to the whole immigration issue in the US and Venezuela. Is that there is a clear ideological difference between the Left and the Right on this.

That the Lefts approach and ideology on immigration has led to many problems. That this is primarily due to their more socialist manifesto that had become radical at times. Still is in how we seem the violence and attacks on immigration officers and how the narrative is still around Trumps administration being fascists and dictators trying to destroy the US.

They are trying to destroy the US. They make no bones about it. Do you know what the Seven Mountain Mandate is?

Vance and Noem are devout followers and are quite open about it. They are using their positions in government to enable the mandates.

Ooh scary, Christians..!

What will we do?

Not scary, just deplorable as usual. Seven Moountains people are traitors to their country and enemies of Christ. They won't last long.

I see the big old scarry radical Christian narrative again. What was the last one, Project 25 or something like that. It never ends with all these conspiracies.

The common theme is Trump. Whether its a Nazi, Dictator, Alt Right Christian and his admin is like the Gestapo and commit war crimes and murder and kidknap innocents off the streets.

Heard it all before. After 10 years Trump has done no such thing. In fact the Rep are more of a diverse group of people I have ever seen in a party for a long time.

The reality is it seems much of what the Dems are accusing Trump and his admin is actually been committed by the Dems. This has been exposed with the lawfare, control of information within legacy media, targeting opponents. Now using violent speak and actions to oppose the sitting president administration which they were elected for.

It seems as far as immigration is concerned Trump is doing exactly what he promised as part of being elected. Most people supported that. Now its being carried out they don't like it. A bit the same with Maduro. The Dems are the ones that use to go on about Trump not capturing Maduro. They set a bounty on his head for capture back to the US to face justice. Trump actually does something about it and now they complain.

Conspiracy? There's no conspiracy, it's all being carried on right out in the open, with people like you cheering them on.

Is that why you think you can celebrate the death of that woman unshriven as a victory for Christ?

So what have they done so far that has been carried out in the open. What exactly are people like me cheering on. I honestly don't know what your talking about.

Lets take control of media. The Rep have no chance of controlling media. It is the majority that supports the Dems and in fact if there was ant control of the nedia we now know it has been the Dems who controlled the media and were forcing them to follow their mandates.

Like I said everything the Dems claim Trumps admin are doing. The Dems are the actual ones doing it.

There you go again more lies and trouble making. False narratives to cause trouble. Its you who are causing the false narratives with such lies.

Steve, this thread is about Venezuela. There are no "Dems" doing anything in Venezuela.

So are you saying the debate over whether this is a good or bad thing does not involve the different sides of politics lol. That we can discuss this without bringing up the objections from the Dems on this lol. Good luck on that front.

Wait, just checked. you a bit late as the Dems got introduce in post no 3 and then it carried on from then. So why are you targeting me in particular when you should know that this was already the case as a natuiral followon to this issue. Of course the Dem and Rep positions on this will be brought up.

Is not one of the biggest talking point that Trump has comitted an illegal act according to the Dems. Is it not their objections and complaints about how it all should be done and Trump doesn't know what he is doing. This is already all through this thread lol.

Please quote the poster doing that or admit that you are not being honest about what they said.
It is the same tactic used on Trump and his admin. Throw out false claims and narratives. Which end up dividing people and causing hate which leads people to act on the hate as its been spoken so many times that some people believe it and get brain washed and then act on it.
