  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Multiple countries like france, denmark and such are prepared to go to war with the US over greenland, is trump really going to attack or invade? Apparently his newest plan is to bribe greenlanders with up to 100k each to be willing to join the US. This isn't venezuela with a dictator, it's one of the US's allies, yet trump is treating it like it's just something he's allowed to do.

Do you think trump will invade?

If he can make it seem to his supporters as part of the War on Woke he most certainly will. Abortion and LGBT are legal in Greenland--that's all the justification they need.

Trump wants access to the resources. If it was about security he could just beef up the military presence already there.

Now no one trusts him.

Finally! Five Republican Senators got the courage to vote with Democrats to limit Trump's war powers in Venezuela. It hould have been unanimous, of course, but I'll take what we can get.

Hopefully this will give him the message. MSN

No, there will be no invasion and Denmakr and France are not going to war with the US.

Denmark, a colonial power, starting to give Greenlanders rights in 1953, The US had been interested in buying the colony even before that date.

OPTIONS
1) Greatly increase the numbers at the current base and start exploratory mining near the base. This is allowable under the current arrangemnets.
2) Offer Greenlanders $1M each and call for a vote, allowing the same self-government that they have now. The US would be responsible for defense, foreign policy and mineral development. The first two are the RESPONSIBILTY of Denmark now (not that they do anything),
3) Negotiate a treaty with Denmark and Greenland. I don't see how Denmark would be involved after such a treaty, but that would be negotiated. They do nothing now.

I think a treaty is indeed important. Denmark was a strong ally in recent wars and should be treated as such.
4) Negotiate the sale with Greenlanders retaining most of the rights that they have now PLUS an annual stipend from the sale of minerals.

President Trump said Wednesday the U.S. would always support NATO and that Russia and China only feared the alliance as long as the United States was a member. Just more made up fear mongering.

yeah, trump is not getting greenland anyway like that., and trumps made it clear he wants it, he's insane enough to invade to get what he wants. And france, denmark have made it clear they will not tolerate an attack on Greenland, so has Canada.

You should know that the US had 10 times as many troops as now at the Greenland air base during the Cold War. There is iunder the present agreement. While it might be problematic to have lots more, I certainly could see bring the numbers to COld War levels and to hire civilian contractors to search for minerals near the base.
===========
Also, the air base is on the water. The US can certainly move naval defenses to international waters near the base to better defend the base.
===========
BOTTOM LINE
The US has an existing agreement whereby the US has an air base whose function is to operate in the interests of the US and to defend Greenland from the Russians, as it effectively did during the Cold Wars.

The US will come to an amended deal with Denmark and the Greenlanders. No one care about what France will tolerate.

With regard to Canada, I suspect that the Arctic will be a major part of the amended North American agreement set to be renegotiated this year.

Greenland would put the US in a better strategic position to keep the world safe. And people are actually protesting that idea.
Because who cares what the US thinks, they don't get to steal other lands just because they want too, it's nonsense.

you don't think the moves and threats the US is making gainst greenland kinda void such agreements. The US is trying to force a new deal or taking ove that no one but trump wants. And it's not about how many troops they have, it's about trump wanting to control greenland from Denmark, the US doesn't just get to take over other countries just because it wants too, regardless of what it thinks it can do in venezuela.

What does the Treaty of the Danish West Indies have to do with Greenland?
From the Wikipedia article:

'During 1916, the two sides agreed to a sale price of $25,000,000, and the United States accepted a Danish demand for a declaration stating that they would "not object to the Danish Government extending their political and economic interests to the whole of Greenland".[12][18]'

So I guess it was part of the negotiations.

The United States needs more Lebensraum. We will also bring civilization and the True Christian faith to the savages inhabitants of the land. France and Denmark are already making threats of war against the United States. If their aggressive tone continues, they will encounter the full weight of the Heer, Krigsmarine, und Luftwaffe.

Since a lot of the world relies upon the US to keep them safe, why object to what would help the US in providing even more protection?
