  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Many corporate interests that have donated to the president’s pet project have business before his administration

President Trump’s aides have promised transparency about the funding of a new ballroom, but the White House withheld the identities of several donors to the project, including some with business before the administration, The New York Times found.

A list released last month by the White House of more than three dozen donors omitted donation amounts, as well as the names of several individuals and companies that collectively have billions of dollars riding on the outcome of administration policy decisions.

---

Mr. Trump’s fund-raisers have been circulating a pledge form, a copy of which was obtained by The Times, seeking contributions for the ballroom, which gives donors the option of withholding their identities from public disclosure. Such donations could remain anonymous in perpetuity, as the funds are being raised and managed by the Trust for the National Mall, a nonprofit registered under a section of the tax code for charities that provides benefits for donors including the ability to claim tax deductions and to keep their identities anonymous.

A White House official said in a statement that the identities of donors “who wish to be named publicly” will be disclosed, but that “donors also have the option to remain anonymous and we will honor that if that’s what they choose.”

Ethics experts have raised concerns about the donations, including the possibility that they could lead to special treatment for donors or test the bounds of a prohibition on federal agencies accepting gifts from private sources.

Trump admits he didn’t have to tear down East Wing for ballroom, but just wanted to

Trump also addressed reports that demolition has not gone over well with a notable group: first ladies

President Donald Trump has admitted that he did not need to tear down the East Wing of the White House in order to build his sprawling $300 million ballroom.

“I could’ve built the ballroom around it,” Trump told Fox News Monday. “I didn’t want to sacrifice a great ballroom for an okay ballroom by leaving it right smack in the middle.”

Trying to contain the 1942 east wing building within the ballroom would have been ridiculous.

Trump says it would have been "ok". Not ridiculous. Who's the real estate developer, him or you?

You don't have to be a real estate developer or an architect to consider something to be ridiculous. Like the Obama library design.

Dont you trust Trumps taste on these matters? As for me I sure dont. His taste is overwrought rococo gold plated garbage. To bad he seems to get the first, middle, and last word on this thing.

That Obama library sure is..... interesting. Im often the minority who likes that style of building. For instance I think the SF DeYoung is amazing (with one notable problem) tho many people find it morose and brutal. But the Obama center does challenge me, I admit. Sometime these things grow on you. Sometimes they dont.

I think the east wing building inside of the ballroom would be ridiculous, and the Obama library looks like something out of a dystopian sci-fi movie.

Obama didn't rip out part of the White House to build his library. But I agree both are over priced. If watch The Fox News version. They sure need to grow up.All heard them do, is make fun of Obama, for building a library. Obama plans to hire people to work his library. As for the ball room. I'm sure people will work in their, once it's done. There's other things to be more concerned about.

No, Harry S. Truman literally ripped apart the White House. The east wing was built 150 after the White House was built, as an annex to the White House.

I read ,he kept it true the design. And improve the structure. But anyways it's to late to care about the ball room. I prefer the money to be used to help kids and future kids. On the Obama's library and The ballroom. I pass the part, that the ballroom is being built. Get rid of the chairs and tables. It make a wonderful plant room for me.

White House ballroom: Judge signals skepticism of Trump administration arguments

The federal judge presiding over a challenge to the White House ballroom project signaled deep skepticism of the Trump administration's argument that the president has the legal authority to undertake the East Wing renovations and to fund them with private donations.

In a hearing on Thursday, U.S. District Court Judge Richard Leon pressed an administration lawyer on both of those issues -- as he questioned whether the president has the power to tear down part of what he called "an icon that's a national institution," and described the intent to fund it with private gifts as a "Rube Goldberg contraption" that would evade congressional oversight.

Judge Leon, a George W. Bush appointee, said the Trump administration appears to be making an "end run" around congressional oversight with the president's plan to privately raise $400 million for the ballroom project, and he admonished the Justice Department's lawyer to "be serious" in justifying a legal rationale for it.

[Justice Department's lawyer] Roth also noted that Congress was never asked in Gerald Ford's era to approve the building of a swimming pool, or a tennis pavilion during Trump's first term.

"[Your argument for using NPS's gift authority] on an icon that's a national treasure is, what? The '77 Gerald Ford swimming pool?" Leon asked. "You compare that to ripping down the East Wing? C'mon! Be serious."

I fail to see what the big deal is.
If Kamala had got in and done this in a style that honoured Black Culture - I wonder if you would be so calm? As it is, Trump's ballroom is a direct ripoff of Putin's, an ode to white dictators? What could possibly go wrong with that message?

Why do MAGA types never answer the question?
And here it is. Just ad a little orange and brown paint around the trimmings to the American ballroom below - and SNAP!
Because America always aspired to look like Imperial Russia? OKAY......... whatever dude.

Because they are dumb questions that do not deserve the respect of a response. It is like playing chess with a pigeon. It doesn't matter how may times you win the game, the will still just poop all over the board and strut around as if they won. I prefer not to play chess with pigeons. Note, I just asked a question that you refused to answer. So you can start by explaining why you do not answer questions.
