  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

The image with the Union Jack is from here: Understanding the Roots of Anti-Immigration Protests in Britain

"Understanding the Roots of Anti-Immigration Protests in Britain

...

The recent violent unrest that followed the tragic killing of three young girls, which was falsely attributed to a Muslim migrant, serves as a stark illustration of the dangerous consequences that can arise when false information is spread unchecked. Despite the police clarifying that the suspect was not a migrant, the damage had already been done. The misinformation had already fuelled widespread anger and provided a potent catalyst for existing anti-immigration sentiments to boil over into the streets.
"

In other words, a bunch of far-right nutjobs rioting based on the lies of right-wing media and talking heads.

The image with Polish flags seems to come from 2015 (that's the earliest version that appears on tineye.com) or before. That might be the Nationalist riots from 2014. Again, that was far-right nutjobs, smashing and burning things.

I don't think its about that one image. I was not putting the images up to represent any specific situation. But as representative of an ongoing and nation wide issue.

The immigration issue in Britain and Englan in particular is not about that incident you mention. But a number including the abuse of young women by gangs which had been covered up and other incidents of crime and terror that has risen.

It doesn't matter if its far Right or Left. I am saying that the whole immigration issue, the culture wars created by political ideologies forced on people over recent years has created such a tinder box.

The whole idea of forced migration, who comes into a nation ect is the issue of modern times. Due to ideas about multiculturalism which is obviously not working. Each side has their own beliefs on what makes good immigration and they clearly differ. One supports more or less open borders while the other is now retreating into nationalism.
The third image is a Portland, anti-ICE protest. So, not Europe.
Yeah I thought I'd throw that one in to show its pretty much the same all over the world.
So, thanks for demonstrating that far-right radicalism is dangerous.
Both far right and far left is dangerous.

....yes, it was an extremely well executed military operation that only the U.S. could pull off. The administration is hoping Americans focus on that rather than what comes next. And it's now apparent the administration did no planning whatsoever for the day after. Their approach is remove the head honcho and comply with our demands or else....while we take your oil. And if it takes American boots on the ground to carry it out, so be it.
Actually I think there has been rigorous planning and manouvering going on for months in the background. I think the aim is to have elections in a few months.

Rodriguez is stand in president and although she is part of the old regime she has agreed to work with the US. I would imagine some sort of security for the transition. From what I understand a number of south American nations like Argentina, Chile, Dominican Rep, Panarma and Ecuador are supporting the ousting of Maduro. So they may be involved.

But how does this all negate acting on an indictement that Biden put out on the capture of Maduro and even a reward of 25 million for his capture to be able to bring him to the US to face justice.

The Biden admin was more or less supporting the same thing and encouraging that it happen. If they could they would have done it themselves. This was bring an evil man to justice. Someone actually acted on it and people are more outraged at this than the fact that a evil man who was causing hell in the US has been brought to justice.

Mr. Trump told NBC News that he has formed a team to oversee the next steps in Venezuela, including Secretary of State Marco Rubio, Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth and White House deputy chief of staff Stephen Miller. He said Vice President JD Vance would also play a role.

Mr. Miller said Monday night that the president had asked Mr. Rubio to lead the effort. Mr. Rubio had long pushed for the United States to oust Mr. Maduro. But Mr. Trump, asked by NBC News who the “top person” would be in charge of Venezuela, answered: “Me.”

1. Trump
2. Rubio
3. Stephen Miller
4. Pete Hegseth
5. JD Vance

Good luck with that team....

Machado bending the knee and offering to "share". the Nobel Peace prize with Trump (someone has counseled her well):

Venezuelan opposition leader María Corina Machado heaped praise on President Donald Trump during a Fox News interview as she promised to return to her country and called for elections to replace deposed president Nicolás Maduro — saying she would win in a landslide despite Trump’s repeated dismissals of her ability to lead.

Speaking to host Sean Hannity on Monday, Machado said she had not spoken to Trump since October, when she was announced as the recipient of the Nobel Peace Prize — an award the president has vocally coveted.

“But I do want to say today, on behalf of the Venezuelan people, how grateful we are for his courageous mission,” Machado said, adding that she and the Venezuelan people want to “share” the prize with Trump after the U.S. military seized Maduro and his wife and brought them to New York to stand trial on narco-terrorism charges.

Separately:

Recent classified C.I.A. intelligence analysis also suggested that keeping top figures inside the Venezuelan regime, rather than promoting the opposition, would be the best option for securing the country’s stability after Maduro, the New York Times and Wall Street Journal have reported.

Three pictures across 27 (28 if you include the UK) countries (and how many years?) is not indicative of a general problem.
I think most western nations pretty well follow a similar Left and Right divide. They may call it something else. But its basically a Left verses Right thing to varying degrees.

Mainly Germany. Sweden had a generous immigration policy. But despite their vetting some got in and others are causing problems. So maybe they were too generous and did not see the reality of their own policies. The point is even nations like Sweden are coming down on immigration and tightening their security due to the radicalism that has come into many European nations.
Radicalism? Stefan Hedlund doesn't give any examples. The criminal problems are not caused by religious persons, it's turf wars and drug wars.
Stefan Hedlund is painting a bleak picture by using tendentious language. Sweden do not have any no-go zones for example (it is a well-known dog-whistle though). He seems to be writing for a right-wing audience.

Firearm deaths have been declining yearly from a peak in 2022. The police got this.
No why. Socialism is another. Have you notice the rise in popularity for socialism.
No, not even the swedish social democratic party discusses ownership of the means of production any longer.
New York elected a socialist mayor. Only the Left would do this. Most young people today want the return of socialism. Primarily because it promises free stuff.
The US doesn't have a socialist party that is even close to being a significant political power.

Also New York now with Mamdani.

So you understand that cities have mayors now, great? (I know you didn't read my link, Milwaukee hasn't had a socialist mayor in 75 years.)

I think offering Trump something to share is more insulting to Trump than not offering anything at all.

Ah the US embassy is working with the VP and has warned about any continuation of the same will not be tolerated.
Sure it is, Steve, sure it is. Do the Trump administration even *claim* this? (Setting aside their inclination to lie about everything for the moment.)
They are helping with the transition from a radical Narco and terrorist dictatorship to a democratic one. So it takes time. But everyone should agree that this will be much better for all.
transitioning from a radical Narco and terrorist dictatorship to a democratic dictatorship? Or is that from radical to democratic Narco and terrorist dictatorship.

Your writing doesn't make any sense. EDIT before you post.
Are you kidding. Terror has increased. There has been two assassination attempts on a president, one murder or s conservative, death threats have skyrocked, violence on the streets.
That's all from islamicist terrorists? (That is the claim.) Don't think so.
Drug imposts increasing, terrosist now infiltrating south American on the US doorstep.
South America is *FAR* from the US "doorstep". There isn't even a road that connects the US to South America.
Then whats all the moral outrage. Anyone would think Hitler declared war on the world lol the way some are complaining.

What is radical and to the left. So your saying the Dems have not become more radical. That the radical policies have not come to the center. I think its evidence in that we have seen assassinations and attempted assassinations of the opposition in taking them out and the narratives that fuel this in recent years. Is a sign of how radicalims has come into politics.
Are you trying to aggravate us to react and get this thread shut down? This is a poor understanding of the "political spectrum" and recent events in US politics. There is no point arguing with you over this and the rest of your failures to understand what you read.

lol I am not American. Like you an observer from the outside.

Not sure about destroying the economy. Trumps only been in for a short while. The economy was already destroyed. Its a case of repairing it now.

I've heard energy prices are coming right down and this is a big factor in bring prices down across the board. I think more time is required. But I cannot see too much that would be negative for the economy.

Tariff I am not sure but some economists are saying it may work out better than expected. They are being selectively introduced. Who surely the idea of getting local manufacturing going rather than imposting everything is good for the US. Creating local jobs ect.

But its early days.

Yeah we will have to wait and see. But at least the fraud is being sorts and billions of dollars won't be wasted. You can't get any lower as far financial mismangement. Thats a core principle that the Dems could not even get right. Trump is also saing on the chaos illgals brought and the devastation drugs are causing. Surely there is some positives.

What wars. This is hyperbole. Trump has done nothing different to what Biden, Obama and Clinton has done. Why is it when Trump does it its suddenly bad.

A 2 hour mission into Venezuela to capture a wanted criminal with a 25 million dollar price tag set by the Biden admin is hardly war. Its acting on Bidens indictement.

This is part of why trouble is stirred up. People promoting false narratives about Hitler and taking democracy, war crimes and starting wars.

I am sure they will work out something. All I know is the trade deficite is at a 5 year low.

SOrry the US economy was doing better under democrats then republicans after covid. It was just slower but getting better. Then trump started angering and threatening countries like Canada, put up tariffs on products that the US needs. Much of the world looked at Trumps tariffs and went, "Whelp there are all the other countries to sell too." and ignored him. But due to tariffs many companies in the US can't afford to buy the stuff they need to function.

Calling taking the leader and kidnapping him anything but an act of war is being disengenous. How many countries has the US bombed and attacked under Trump? Funny how the world sees them as wars and acts of aggression, sees the US now as a bigger threat then Russia, not by not much definetly a bigger threat. Trump in the last week just hinted at attacking a bunch of countries, Mexico, Cuba, Columbia and Greenland, and after going after oil in Venezuela Canada is preparing for a war against the US and making moves to protect itself.

Plus TRUMP himself has admited part of the war with Venezuela was due to Moduro dancing.

he already didn't like her because while she mentioned trump and he should have had the peace prize, she took it, wich was bad in Trumps book.

it stopped working on trump at the least this year. Non zero chance that trump or his defenders will use that excuse over him controlling Venezuela or who ever he attacks next.
Mexico should be next if this is really about drugs

Oil tankers break Trump’s blockade of Venezuela by escaping in ‘Dark Mode’ coordinated dash past US Navy & Coast Guard

The [dozen+] vessels – mostly loaded with Venezuelan crude and fuel – stealthily escaped the country’s waters by throwing off location trackers, making the ships appear to be thousands of miles away.

The tankers – which had been in or near Venezuelan ports in recent weeks – all made a break for it before Saturday, according to satellite images and ship-tracking data.

World reaction to U.S. strikes on Venezuela pours in

The Chinese foreign ministry said in a statement Sunday that it "calls on the U.S. to ensure the personal safety of President Nicolas Maduro and his wife, release them at once, (and) stop toppling the government of Venezuela," according to AFP.

Beijing also depicted the U.S. strike that captured Maduro as a "clear violation of international law."

We can dispense with the 'mere arrest' canard.

Trump has a list of demands for Venezuela’s new leader

“Venezuela, thus far, has been very nice. But it helps to have a force like we have,” Trump told reporters Sunday on Air Force One. “If they don’t behave, we will do a second strike.”
