Greenland left the EU in the 1980s. Let the citizens of Greenland decide on any offer made by the United States. Most in Greenland would like to break away from Denmark but they are dependent upon financial assistance from Denmark. The U.S. can make them a better deal. This is so bizarre. Denmark is part of NATO. We can't just go invading another NATO country. Please tell me somebody will say "no" before it comes to that.
- Poll: 85% of Greenlanders oppose joining the U.S.
- Poll: 45% of Greenlanders see Trump's interest as a threat
- Trump claims Greenland is vital to U.S. security
- Denmark plans $2 billion Arctic military boost
Turns out, he's no more popular in Greenland than in the U.S.This is what business executives do when they want to get a feeling for an idea they have.
Popularity has little to do with getting things right.Turns out, he's no more popular in Greenland than in the U.S.

And the right, too. It's why people were predicting that Trump would start a war to counter his slide in approval. As it is, in the US, Trump's popularity among the left is at an all time low
There are demonstrations against Trump in Venezuela too. So, it's controversial as to which of them is worse. I'm just thinking that "better than Maduro" while arguably true, is not really a very good measure. Maduro not only tried to overturn an election, he succeeded. Which makes him marginally worse than Trump. In other words, the people in the US are wrong while the people who lived 30 years under
Maduro are right to celebrate now.
Certainly there are Venezuelans happy to be rid of Maduro. There are demonstrations against Trump in Venezuela too. So, it's controversial as to which of them is worse. Right. I think Venezuelans would be really unhappy with us looting their oil or installing a regime without an election. We could be seen as liberators. Trump got off on the wrong foot by endorsing Maduro's sidekick.Certainly there are Venezuelans happy to be rid of Maduro.
That doesn't mean at all even those Venezuelans want to be governed from Washington DC.
If some Greenlanders want to break away from Denmark, it does not mean at all they want to be controlled by Washington DC.
What people want is national liberty, not just another colonizing power.
Did he make that endorsement? I hadn't seen that yet.Right. I think Venezuelans would be really unhappy with us looting their oil or installing a regime without an election. We could be seen as liberators. Trump got off on the wrong foot by endorsing Maduro's sidekick.

This is so bizarre.
It's their choice. And they aren't going to comply with Trump's ambitions. The easiest path to Greenland is with the Compact of Free Association
But he's not running a business now.Trump just floats the idea to see how it will be accepted or rejected by the population of Greenland.
This is what business executives do when they want to get a feeling for an idea they have.
Does he know the tenth commandment?Trump acts in strange ways, but I don’t think he would do much to take over Greenland. He’ll take it if he can get it, but he is bargaining for a greater military presence. By asking too much, he is negotiating to get what he can to deter Russia and China. He also wants the resources, but the technology is not there yet to extract them at a reasonable cost. He might also be pushing Europe to see how important Greenland is.
We have one there. Could have more, maybe, if we somehow regain the trust of Greenlanders and Denmark. That might take some doing. Why not execute a lease for a base like Gitmo?
