CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I believe that church should not serve as a forum for political discussion. As mentioned previously, those who prefer churches that engage with politics may choose to attend them. Unfortunately, many churches in America have increasingly intertwined religious practice with political activity. Personally, I prefer attending a church where the pastor focuses on preaching from the Word of God and refrains from addressing political matters.

I agree with you, fortunately the church I attend does do just that. We only worship GOD and read from the Bible. Politics is never mentioned and I am grateful for that.

The topic is about politics in church preaching and teaching, if I understand it correctly, and not abot a particikar race for a particular office. If you want to ask me about a particular race for a particular office, I will try to answer, if it is relevant to the topic, but so far you haven't done so in a way that I know what you are asking about, nor whom.

These topics should certainly be addressed in the church setting. They are rooted in biblical principles rather than political issues. you think these are political issue, when these matters has been preached and taught thousands of years before they became hot topic of politics.
For example, "Thou shall not kill" was documented in the scriptures thousands of years before it became linked to political debates. Similarly, the biblical view on homosexuality was established long before it emerged as a topic within political discourse.

Really? You dont think societies a long time ago were eager to prevent murder and theft and adultery, at least to some degree? When Abraham lied about Sarah being [only] his sister, and God spoke to Abimelech, saying, "She is a man's wife," this was a message to the king of the area about adultery. That's what politics is really all about.

If adultery were not considered a sin in the eyes of the Lord, I would not be concerned with society’s opinions. Similarly, if homosexuality were not regarded as sinful by God, political views on the matter would be irrelevant to me. It appears that your perspective is shaped by social or political considerations, whereas my focus remains solely on what aligns with God’s prospective.

I agree with that.
I'm not particularly concerned if the world at large practices adultery or homosexuality, or whatever.
I'm only concerned about what the Lord has commanded compatible with a lifestyle in Christ. I'm concerned with politics only to the extent that it might interfere with my ability to live a life compatible with Christ.
I don't expect the morality of the world to be compatible with the Christian life, nor do I believe it's the mission of the Church to use the sword of Caesar to force unbelievers to behave like believers. That guy over there--I'm not really concerned who he's having sex with, unless he claims to be a member of the Body of Christ.

I think you should have voted Clinton, not only because you feel that would have been in your interests, but to spite the priest for trying to manipulate his parshioners into voting a certain way for his own gain.
