  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

Do you get offended whenever a non-believer calls Christianity a cult?

I have heard some people say this and sometimes it has offended me because I was always taught growing up that Christianity was the truth of Jesus Christ, not just another cult existing on earth. That it was the truth itself. As Jesus said: I am the way, the truth, and the life.

*Sigh* People are brought up in so many different ways it seems. If my way of life offends you in some way, don't come and tell me. Keep it to yourself. I know nonbelievers would accuse me of being "indoctrinated" by Bible Scripture, but I say to them: What's so wrong about that? You make it sound like having divine knowledge is a bad thing.

I guess I am so tired of hearing this.

Unfortunately, this perception has become more normalized, identifying Christianity as a cult. Christianity has evolved, particularly in the United States, to align with political and nationalistic ideologies, leading to a perception that deviates sharply from its original teachings. You see, Jesus Christ of Nazareth is being portrayed as an American Nationalist. Hard to believe, but true. Idolatry of individuals like Trump or even Charlie Kirk has shifted the focus from Jesus Christ of Nazareth and poisoning His Harvest. They have basically hijacked His name in abomination by using it in politics .
Jesus Christ of Nazareth as an "American Nationalist," is what contributes to the identification of Christianity as something akin to a cult ultimately attributing to the decline of true faith. This unsettling alignment with contemporary politics, has resulted in a profound transformation which obscures the Gospel and its foundational theological principles set by Jesus Christ of Nazareth, the Prophets and His Apostles. False teachers, false prophets, false Preachers and false Evangelists have paved the way for this evil union and are directly responsible for lending credence to the controversial, and personally unheard of, characterization of Christianity as a cult.

Your part, if I may say, must be to reverse this evil trend and defend the faith. Our foundation shall not be shaken and neither shall you. Fight for Jesus Christ of Nazareth, equip yourself with truth, and discern so that the Kingdom of God can continue to grow.

Thanks for reading this. I know its heavy but it must be spoken to all that has an ear to hear. Be blessed and above all, stay the course for His sake and for the sake of His remnant.

No. I'm more offended by the actions of professing christians than what unbelievers think of us. Most of which isn't unwarranted and some of which I agree with myself.

Cults come and go, Jesus the the real deal. Christianity should not be tied to a contemporary leader and it is a free gift. (Though some do sell it).
I would approach someone who said that with grace, letting them know the bible is the bestseller of all time, that time is BC/AD, that biblical prophecy is true, and other facts as to why Christianity is far superior.

I haven't heard Christianity (as a whole) called a "cult" by non-believers, but if I did, I'd take it as a conversation starter. "What do you mean by 'cult'?" "What have your experiences with Christians/Christianity been, that led you to that label?" etc.

I dont mean to intervien but. many people including non-Trump supporters who are Christians believe there is a cult within our midst. It has certainly spilled out into to the secular world for sure.

I agree that there's some troublesome stuff going on in American Christianity right now. I haven't yet heard the term "cult" applied to it, but I could see it.

Sometimes people don't know the definitions of words that they use. A cult is a small religious group that differs from main, large, religions.

Christianity as a whole is not a cult. Some small groups who claim to be Christian or have some commonality with Christianity are cults.

Cults aren't necessarily bad. Christianity began as a cult of Judaism, branching off because of their faith in Jesus. Because of it's size and wide acceptance, it is no longer a cult.

So if I heard someone say that Christianity is a cult, I would explain what the word cult means.

If they meant it as an insult, I wouldn't be offended. I would be concerned about their spiritual well-being, but not offended.
