  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

As opposed to
- the lab leak theory is racist
- "if you get vaccinated, you won't catch covid"
- "cloth masks work because it spreads primary via droplets
- "natural immunity isn't reliable

Why was there no permanent professional consequences for those bits of misinformation?
What is you point? That this guy (I don't know his name), Bret Weinstein, and all the other RW culture war "martyrs" you have brought up are just as unworthy of that appellation as the titular Mr. Kirk and his "half staff" honors? If so, congrats, else this is a dead horse. I concur with @GoldenBoy89 .

He musted have been respected enough back 2012 to be invited give a Ted Talk
TED-X which is a far easier, less prestigious than regular TED.

Understanding the differences between TED and TEDx Talks can help you decide which platform better suits your interests and goals. TED Talks focus on broad, impactful ideas from top experts, while TEDx Talks bring the spirit of TED to local communities, offering a more intimate and diverse range of topics.

Both types of talks aim to inspire and educate audiences, but they do so in different ways. TED events provide a polished, high-profile platform for groundbreaking ideas, whereas TEDx events foster a sense of community and local engagement. Each type has unique strengths and caters to different audience needs.

What does any of this have to do with flags at half mast for Charlie Kirk?

This thread has obviously run its course.
It's because someone else had replied in the thread about people having negative professional consequences (and doxxing) for not going along with what the sitting administration/in-power party wanted as far as public discourse surrounding a contentious issue... so I provided examples of professionals who faced consequences for that reason, a few of the examples were professors who refused to cancel finals for a "Floyd remembrance day" and a few of the examples I provided were covid contrarians, that's how this particular off-shoot the conversation came up.

Thanks. I see now how it got here.

House Speaker Mike Johnson has said that “we are going to work on” a statue in Washington, D.C. of Charlie Kirk, the assassinated right-wing political activist.

Johnson was cheered as the addressed the crowd in Phoenix, Arizona, during the America Fest conference of Turning Point USA, which Kirk co-founded.

I guess people can make statues of whomever they want. While Kirk was a great man, I wouldn't make atarue of him. I am not sure he would want that either.

Compared to all the people who actually deserve places of honor at the capitol, hes just a small time partisan operator.

You probably have no clue just how big Turning Point USA really is.

It must not be that big since I and many others never heard of it, or of Charlie, till he died. Just because he and this org were popular amongst college conservatives, does not make him or the org overall significant to the US.

True, it is big. TPUSA cost Nicki Minaj a few million followers, but at least she won't be deported since she's with the right crowd, now.

It’s a big organization, sure.

Do you think big left wing groups should be recognized and honored by the White House as well?

I don't think either should get statues. We could end up with Kirk next to George Floyd at the capital

I think it’s a sign of how politics have taken over and consumed every facet of daily life in America.

Nah ... YUUUUGE
I was thinking of Olive Oyl's song about Bluto - to all the objections her friends give, she answers, "But he's large..."

ETA: Ugh. The double entendre just occurred to me, a little late....
