  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

One person here. We're supposed to take the (probably distorted) story about one person here and there, and apply it wholesale to the same thing happening to everyone. The whole masked and secret facility thing is hype. A couple of years ago certain people pitched a fit if someone wasn't wearing a mask. Now they're pitching a fit over masks being worn. ICE goons, gestapo, kidnappers, hype, hype, hype.
No, the story was not distorted--it's just the most recent one. The worst thing about it is that it's obviously being done for show. Under the radar, ICE is actually doing some good work removing real criminals. For instance, ICE recently worked with the "sanctuary city" Oakland PD to round up the top tier of local MS-13 leadership, which I knew about because my son lives in Oakland and I happened to be there at the time. But Trump is playing to his base, so the cruelties (like the Paola Clouatre case) are emphasized to "hurt the Libs."

Right, there's about one per week. The story was probably distorted like others with a lot of superfluous hyperbole added to it. Perhaps it's more a matter of a show being made out of it. The masked goons kidnapping victim of the week. Legacy media doesn't showcase these situations to hurt the libs.

Referring to American citizens, dads and moms and other patriotic Americans as "goons" is a continuing problem.

A goon is a goon, badge or not.

The regular criminals in this country are *also* mostly American citizens, some are parents, and I've seen no evidence that they are any less patriotic than non-criminal citizens.

They, like many Americans, have a job. Their job is to enforce the laws passed by the representatives of the citizenry. If you think ICE should have to wear identification and show badges then work to change the law. You don't have to be an American citizen to give a call to a member of Congress. Focus should be directed at the lawmakers. If an ICE agent violates the law a complaint should be filed. I read about an agent being reprimanded back in September for excessive force. In law enforcement you are supposed to use minimum force, that means if you are struck and get in a fight and it takes two blows to subdue your attacker and you hit him a third time you are guilty of misconduct. The same goes if you catch a child sex abuser in the act, you can't rough him up, if you do you are guilty of misconduct. Even highly trained officers lose their tempers and if happens more than once they should be kicked out.

If they can't enforce the law without breaking it, then they deserve termination and prosecution. We don't need goon cops. (And there is a lot of evidence that the ICE/BCP squads are being scaled up without proper training or screening to prevent most of the abusive behavior. That's on the management who appear to like the gooning.)

Realize the Democrats in the United States have wealthy backers, Kamala had more than TWICE the money for her campaign than Trump did, and they are tied in deeply with the major media. So too countries like China and Iran support their causes. Here we call such reporting "tabloid journalism." You see little reporting by these people about the missing children and the women who our trafficked. In the United States human slavery rose to the highest level since our Civil War.
Irrelevant.

Once again - Trump and the Republicans have done lots worse - "goons" is pretty mild. We didn't set the standard.

If you think ICE should have to wear identification and show badges then work to change the law.

I would have thought that, aside from specific cases where plain clothes police are operating undercover, that it would be standard practice in a first world democratic country for law enforcement to wear uniforms and badges/ID.

If someone with a mask, no badge, no uniform and no ID tried to gain access to the vehicle I was driving or the house I was living in, or tried to detain me in any way, in my country, I'd treat them as a criminal.

I do know of one reprimand for excessive force and another for not wearing a mask. If ever a case arises where prosecution is warranted I will be all for it. Overall they've done a remarkable job under extremely difficult circumstances. I have seen no lack of training, they have to go up against seasoned cartel members who will get a bonus for killing ICE personnel. So too they have to deal with the stress of their family members being threatened, people tipping of their location, mobs on the ground throwing things at them and blocking their way, and the honking of horns and other noise devices which prevents communication with team members on the ground. Interference creates a dangerous situation for everyone.

172 US citizens thus far. Guess that's nothing to worry about. "Land of the free" LOL

It's almost as if one was about public health and the other was about groups of people who can't be identified arresting US citizens.

There have been plenty examples posted in various threads on this site. Can you point to your support for prosecution on any of them?

Truncated training and lax recruitment requirements have been widely reported.

Remember accusations are not the same as solid evidence. I'd like to see a fair examination of the facts by an unbiased prosecutor. If the circumstances warrant prosecution then absolutely.

Glynco is no picnic. If you have suggestions as to how to improve the training or for that matter background checks I recommend you provide them to those in charge.

I'm serious. If there is room for improvement let's improve it. I contact either an executive branch agency or a Congressional office. Over my lifetime I've done so many many times. They work for us.

That's a drop in the bucket regarding how many US citizens are detained overall.
It's almost as if one was about public health and the other was about groups of people who can't be identified arresting US citizens.
Idenfied by who and for what reason? They're on the clock so ICE and everyone with access to ICE, knows who they are. Narco, gang members, and kooks might have a little more difficulty finding out who they are and what their home address is.

They wear masks for the same kind of protection as everyone else who wears a mask. And there's nothing new about it.

The overall hyperbole going around is insane and it's putting public servants at risk.

...yea, who cares if U.S. Citizens are wrongfully detained.

Say, do you really want to live in a country where one has to "show their papers" to prove their citizenship?

People being detained on suspicion of whatever has always been.

Again there's nothing new about that. People have to prove their identity all the time. Every time you get pulled over you have to show your papers.

Oh golly I got pulled over and the gestapo goon insisted I show my license, registration and insurance. And if I don't have them, they'll kidnap me whaaa. It's like living in Nazi Germany whaaaa.

Should my wife have to carry proof of citizenship when she goes into a Hispanic grocery story?

I'm SMHing your willful blindness to the actual problems with ICE training and operations. Some people revel in it (which I find disgusting), but you seem to be avoiding any information that would suggest the existence of it. So I repeat: SMH.

It's easy to just say "nope" without putting anything behind it. Do a search for false arrest lawsuits going back 50 years. AI says over 3,000 since 1989. According to you it should be 0.

That depends on her status.

People being detained on suspicion of whatever has always been.
Sometimes legally, sometimes not.

Again there's nothing new about that. People have to prove their identity all the time. Every time you get pulled over you have to show your papers.
That depends on whether the stop was justifiable or not. With the exception of checkpoints in some states, cops have to have an articulable reason to stop a driver and are not allowed to randomly check papers.

ICE, due to seeking a huge number of people and willful sabotage and active threats by political opponents of Trump, has a difficult task. Because there are so many Spanish speakers they have to learn Spanish in addition to de-escalation. In a normal arrest situation a lot more people would typically be arrested for obstruction and there would be additional backup, here the approach appears to get suspects in and out as fast as possible in order to avoid mob confrontations. It's an unprecedented situation, and I am sure tactical training is adjusted. I think there should be more prosecutions of those who obstruct. It's a lot of taxpayer money, first a grand jury indicted Judge Hannah Dugan and then she had a trial and was convicted of a felony. But staying within the law is important.

You seemed to be starting a response on ICE training, but then veered off elsewhere for no apparent reason. Have you considered actually sticking to a single thought until you have finished it before starting another?
