  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Right, instead of nipping it in the bud. Pulling it out at the root. Greatly reducing availability. The government should do nothing about that, and instead provide treatment to after people get addicted to it. Let's just wait until they're hooked on the stuff and then try to fix them. Provided it doesn't kill them first. That really is the most logical and caring way to handle the problem.

Instead of destroying the stuff before it gets here, open up hundreds of treatment centers for the 1000 people per day who get addicted to a highly available and cheap extreamly addictive and deadly drug.

tldr; Don't stop it, just treat it.

But really that's moot because what's really happening is the government wants to kill liberals and also get everyone's oil.
Fentanyl doesn't come from Venezuela.

Say it again, louder for the people in the back

FENTANYL DOESN'T COME FROM VENEZUELA!

The strikes on boats in the Caribbean and the posturing against Venezuela have NOTHING to do with the fentanyl or drugs.
Trump pardoned KNOWN drug traffickers including the the former president of Honduras who was a known cartel leader and trafficker.

NONE OF THIS MAKES ANY SENSE.

It looks like america is ruled by the anti-antifascists.
The so called anti-fascists can be said to have their own brand of fascism. Like how they controlled Twitter as one of many examples.

He believes the president of Honduras was framed. That's why he pardoned him. Trump relates well to a president being framed.

illegal fentanyl kills hundreds of thousands of Americans. That sounds a lot like a weapon of mass destruction to me.
except that to a certain extent they seek it out. I am not talking about medical grade here, either. I am not sure how you could say that something people seek out intentionally or not is a weapon of mass destruction.

Sure, sure. Birds of a feather and all that.

What's your excuse for Larry Hoover clemency? Or Ross Ulbrict that ran the black market Silk Road drug exchange where he facilitated the sale of illegal fentanyl?

Many people who get hooked on fentanyl don't seek it out, but have it mixed into their other drugs.

Still don't think that this justifies this qualification, but it's not that clear cut.

It appears to me that some are excusing the hundreds of thousands of deaths caused by illegal fentanyl.
I think their point was both booze and tobacco are legal for adults and yet that kills 100,000s of people a year whether directly or indirectly, that because something is legal or not has NOTHING to do with how many people it kills.

Have you forgotten the failures of the Prohibition Amendment years?
The drug war has failed badly too under that logic been going on for decades and yet as many, if not more people as a percentage of people are incarcerated directly or indirectly behind drugs as EVER was behind just alcohol.

Another consequence of drug prohibition that demands we prohibit them longer and harder!

that was what I meant by intentionally or not. They may or may not have been seeking out fentanyl but in many cases they did seek out the drugs into which it was mixed though not always.

Is not Fentanyl still a drug used all over US hospitals?
yes, but he is trying to address the illegal version very different from the stuff used in hospitals and otherwise under medical direction.

I find this whole thing rather meaningless. Trump cuts funding for addiction treatment programs to cover the tax cuts, and then makes this rather meaningless proclamation. No different than supply side economics, it's not supply that creates demand. It's the demand that creates the supply. We can't control what cartels do in other countries, that's a game of whack-o-mo. Shooting boats that aren't even headed to the US is just the nonsense Trump's Chief of Staff just laid out. We do however have the power to effect what happens within our own borders.

It appears to me that this is just a pretext to commit human rights abuses by a fascist regime.

The so called anti-fascists can be said to have their own brand of fascism. Like how they controlled Twitter as one of many examples.

The so-called abolitionists can be said to have had their own brand of slavery. Like how they tried to enslave southerners into emancipating their slaves

Not really. Fascism requires the power of the state to enforce.
