  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

“We are going to defend our neighbors,” Walz said at a Tuesday fundraiser, according to the Center Square. “Instead of demonizing our Somali community, we’re going to do more to welcome more in.”

He always appears to know what is best for the rest of us.

Those involved in the fraud scheme will have their day in court. Vilifying an entire immigrant community for the actions of a few only sews hatred.

Do you think demonizing an entire group of people based on their country of origin represents the best of America?

The extensive Minnesota fraud scandal, centered on the Feeding Our Future non-profit and its partners, exploited federal child nutrition programs during the COVID-19 pandemic, leading to the theft of an estimated over $1 billion across multiple social service programs. The core of the scheme occurred from 2020 through 2021, bridging both the Trump and Biden administrations; state officials first spotted signs of fraud under the Trump administration in 2019, but the federal indictments and subsequent convictions of over 60 individuals have taken place under the Biden administration, with more charges and trials expected as the investigation continues. As Governor, Tim Walz and his administration are responsible for state oversight of the programs, and critics allege a failure to act on early warnings and slow action in halting the theft. Walz has publicly accepted responsibility for the failures in oversight, asserting his team caught the fraud and referred it to the FBI. While the vast majority of Minnesota's Somali community—estimated to be over 76,000 people—were not involved, the actions of dozens of charged individuals, some of whom are of Somali descent, are not representative of the community at large, and the fraud had nothing to do with the Somali people currently residing in Minnesota. This fact is in stark contrast to the disgusting act of conflating the criminal scheme with the entire community, with President Trump publicly attacking the state's Somali population and calling them "garbage" in connection with the scandal. The stolen money was used for luxury cars, high-end real estate, and international travel, rather than for the thousands of meals they falsely claimed to serve to children in need who were the intended beneficiaries of the program.

Be careful about backing Walz. Walz was not, as he claimed, "a retired command sergeant major" nor was he in Hong Kong during the Tiananmen Square massacre-- he was home in Nebraska. Does Walz say "the buck stops here?" Here's a short video, with Walz at the beginning:
