  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

They cite innocent until proven guilty in court over and over, while condemning others who haven't been proven guilty. I've been pointing out the hypocrisy for a while.

Automobile sales have resulted in the deaths of hundred of thousands of citizens and non-citizens alike.
What is your point? That drug deaths are not important enough to be concerned about?

Didn't say we were.

The US isn't at war with Cartels. Trump is helping some and bombing others. It seems on who is helping Trump.
I stand corrected. The US is in Armed Conflict with drug cartels.

Did the United States Senate grant authorization to the current President to take action against narcotics traffickers?
Yes. After September 11, 2001, Congress gave the president the authorization to identify terrorist groups and use military force against them.

Mabey someday you'll actually discuss the topic.
My points do not seem to be received by you. It makes discussion frustrating and seems to upset you, as evidenced by your claims of my malfeasance.

The distinction between military action against the perpetrators of 9/11 and current military operations targeting narcotics traffickers lies in the authorization process. On September 14, 2001, the United States Senate unanimously approved military action against Afghanistan and those associated with the 9/11 attacks, passing the resolution with a vote of 98-0.

Did the United States Senate grant authorization to the current President to take action against narcotics traffickers?
Hundreds of airstrikes in Pakistan over a period of 14 years wasn't relegated to the perpetrators of 9/11. Trump is going to stomp the tar out of Narco, no matter how much cretin people complain about it. Maybe they'll start holding "Free Narco" rallies next.

You are correct—Congress granted the President authorization; however, this authorization outlines specific criteria for designating terrorists, with a particular focus on Islamic extremism. This guidance does not extend to individuals involved in narcotrafficking.

Here is my concern with supporters of President Trump. I understand that you want to support him in all of this, and you want him to go after narco traffickers. However, my point is: why can’t President Trump use the proper channels? Why does he have to bypass established procedures to accomplish these goals? There’s no point in having checks and balances in our Constitution if, every time there’s an emergency, we ignore legal procedures.

Over the past 14 years, Presidents from both political parties have been able to order airstrikes over Pakistan because Congress granted them this authority to target Islamic terrorists. Congress provided this authorization with specific criteria for designating terrorists, focusing particularly on Islamic extremism. This guidance does not apply to individuals involved in narcotrafficking.

I support President Trump’s efforts to combat drug trafficking. However, I believe that if the United States intends to target vessels in the Caribbean engaged in narcotics transport, the current administration should seek congressional authorization for such actions or request that Congress officially designate narcotics traffickers as terrorists.

Incorrect. The US isn't, Trump is but he is being very selective. Some Cartels are being helped by Trump while others he has targeted. This isn't about Drugs or death to Americans.

He helped MS-13 criminals and he helped the former President of Honduras out of prison. He is playing both ways.

He loves dictators but hates Maduro of Venezuela. Why? He wants their oil.

Whatever! Your hatred of the lawfully and overwhelmingly elected Commander in Chief is noted. So tell us, if Trump wants the oil so bad, why hasn't he done anything to seize any Venezuelan oil?

My only hope is that you know more about what Trump wants you to be doing down there than you are able to tell us.

The Democrats will refuse to cooperate with Trump on most anything and everybody knows it. The 43 day government shutdown removed any doubt that if there's any kind of work around to get past them it should be taken.

Yes, they are only elected representatives of their constituencies. How dare they stand in Trump's way.

I have no hatred for Trump and pray for him regularly. Trump was fairly elected but not overwhelmingly. He received less than half of the popular vote.

Haven't you been reading or listening to the news? They just seized a very large oil tanker from Venezuela.

And? Republicans have done the very same thing to the Democrats. That's politics.

Oh I see, your forte is personal attacks. So noted.
Sometimes personal attacks can seem like the only viable response to attacks on logic, rational thought, respect for the law, Christian values and basic human decency.
