  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

'Tis the season....

After the city's annual lighting of the tree ceremony in Millennium Park in the Loop, 300 juveniles apparently went on a rampage, resulting in numerous gunshot wounds, and injured police officers. A nearby shooting resulted in one fatality.

So how's that stringent gun control policy workin' out for ya, Chicago? Crime stats down? No? Maybe you need more gun control. ^_^

This is partly due to social media which allows anyone to gather influence over large groups and spread their message. This has been cultivated for years now. The idea that minorities can rise up and disrupt entire cities.

But also I think how there is a loss of respect for authority which has been cultivated into recent generations. It began with making young people adults before their time. Giving them rights over their own parents. Promoting defiance of authority in the name of individual rights.

The idea being promoted that you have to stand out and make a noise to be noticed. That disruption gets you attention. That this is a legitimate form of action.

That doing the wrong thing does not lead to any bad consequences. Even rewarded. Weak on crime, policies that send the message that there is no punishment for wrong doing in the name of some good intentioned protection of the volnurable.

The inevitable breakdown of the family and fatherless children. Especially young males. The promotion of radical ideology in place of long held truths based on biblical principles.

This makes for a perfect storm of societal breakdown.
