  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Pope Leo XIV is defending the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops’ message opposing what he characterized as the “extremely disrespectful” treatment of illegal immigrants being deported by the Trump administration. His comments come as border czar Tom Homan continues to defend the federal government’s actions and reiterate earlier allegations of hypocrisy by the Catholic Church.

In response to reporters seeking his comment on the USCCB’s “Special Message” on immigration Tuesday, the pontiff said, “We have to look for ways of treating people humanely, treating people with the dignity that they have.”

“If people are in the United States illegally, there are ways to treat that. There are courts; there’s a system of justice. I think there are a lot of problems in the system. No one has said that the United States should have open borders. I think every country has a right to determine who and how and when people enter,” he stressed.

How can a nation protect it's borders without law enforcement?

Even the Vatican prohibits illegal entry.
I think we can still respect human beings while respecting our borders. I don't think the Holy Father said anything wrong, IMHO.

No open has called for open borders. That is just a right wing lie. The Pope understands and he knows that Trump lies, especially about immigrants.

And they do. Arresting illegals who have come into the country illegally and deporting them is not disrespecting them, despite
the fact that they disrespect the laws of the United States.

The offer for self deportation is very respectful, and merciful. They pay for their return trip, with money in their pockets. This leaves these people with an opportunity to return legally in the future.
I don't think the Holy Father said anything wrong, IMHO.
I do.

A city-state surrounded by walls filled with armed guards has no place in this conversation.
Do you when John Paul II was shot and he forgave his would be assassin?

Leo can disagree, but several countries have entrance laws. There is nothing wrong with that.
ALL are welcome in any country if they come in legally. If not, they risk being deported.
We need to remember, Heaven has an entrance requirement also. If a person, no matter how nice or needy they are, doesn't meet that requirement, they won't be in Heaven.
All of what is being dealt with is the Biden administrations fault. They let Millions in illegally and now the current administration is having to deal with it.
I support that, and ICE seeking first the criminals amongst them to gather up and deport, then the rest at some point. Are some non criminal ones getting caught in the mix, maybe, but either way breaking a countries immigration laws is wrong.
Breaking the immigration laws like the Biden administration did is wrong, they knew better, but still did it over and over. They let in Millions of illegal entrants in. Those people chose to come and they also took the risk they would be caught and deported if a democrat didn't get in.
