  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

....they finally figured that out?

Scott Bessent, the Treasury secretary, said on Fox News Wednesday that the administration would be making “substantial” announcements about tariff exemptions over the next few days, saying that they would target “things we don’t grow here.”

He named coffee, bananas and other fruits. “So that will bring the prices down very quickly,” he said.

...it seems the administration is finally admitting that tariffs increase prices.

The Trump administration is preparing broad exemptions to certain tariffs in an effort to ease elevated food prices that have provoked anxiety for American consumers, according to three people briefed on the actions.

The change would apply to certain reciprocal tariffs the president announced in April, including on products coming from countries that have not struck trade deals with the administration, the people said, discussing a pending announcement on the condition of anonymity.

People in reality land tried to warn them, months ago. Nevertheless, they persisted.

"We cannot build bananas in America"

At a House Appropriations hearing on Thursday, Rep. Madeleine Dean (D-PA) questioned Sec. Howard Lutnick about President Trump's tariffs.

But you are missing the most important point.

As an American citizen, I was interested in how the Brazilian criminal justice system treats its citizen Jair Bolsonaro. For this reason, I was willing to pay 40% more for coffee.

But

Now I have come to the conclusion that paying 40% more for coffee is not a worthwhile concerning about Jair Bolsonaro.

Of course you grow Bananas. Sure, the production can't keep up with demand, but with a solid rationing plan, the USA can certainly reach banana autarky.

Also a great opportunity to dust of this classic:

Made in Jamaica.

The "Banana Boat Song" originated in Jamaica around the turn of the 20th century as a work song sung by dockworkers loading bananas onto ships at night. The song is a call-and-response chant depicting the workers' desire for the day to end. Harry Belafonte's 1956 version, adapted by Lord Burgess and William Attaway, became a massive hit, popularizing the song and starting a worldwide calypso craze.

This can be summed up as, "Trump battles the raising cost of goods by providing relief from his tariffs which gave cause to the raising costs of goods."

Through September, the most recent data available, coffee prices were up 19 percent over the previous 12 months, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics. Bananas were up 7 percent.

Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent told “Fox & Friends” on Wednesday that tariff cuts would “bring the prices down very quickly.” Bessent previously has said that foreign exporters and U.S. retailers were bearing most of the tariff burden, leaving consumers mostly unscathed.

A White House spokesman said the president was pursuing “a nimble, nuanced, and multifaceted strategy” on trade.

[....or the White House finally realized Americans never bought in to the "other countries are paying the tariffs" narrative. ]

Scott Bessent and the administration only communicate with their supporters. While we remain skeptical, their supporters accept whatever they say, despite clear contradictions with previous statements made months ago.

In the coming weeks, it is likely that the administration will reduce more tariff to help lower inflation. Forum members who previously created threads discussing revenue generated from the tariff will subsequently post about how the current administration is addressing “Biden inflation” through lowering terrif.

Trump uses tariffs as a bargaining tool ... that's the thing about tariffs that is good ... they can be easily adjusted.

Uh, we do grow those things here. It's accurate to say that we can't meet our demand internally, but those are not the same thing.
