  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Furious Democrats Call for Schumer to Be Replaced After Shutdown Cave

Leftists, including some elected officials, reacted with apoplectic rage Monday after eight Senate Democrats caved to Senate Republicans by agreeing to vote to end the lengthy government shutdown.
And while Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer didn’t appear to be directly responsible, as it seemed the eight had negotiated a deal behind his back, the blame for the massive concession was still flowing his way.
“Despite voting against the deal, Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) is emerging as the top target for not containing the defections,” Axios confirmed, citing the words of a a number of lawmakers.
“Schumer is voting no,” a senior House Democrat told the outlet. “But that doesn’t mean [a] primary [challenge is] not coming.”
IMHO - They are coming apart at the seams because they eat their own.

Democratic unity fractures, paving the way for the government to reopen

Enough Democrats caved.
A Sunday night Senate deal may be on the verge of resolving the longest government shutdown on record — after a group of moderate Democrats dropped their key demand — a guaranteed extension of Obamacare subsidies.
The agreement opened the way for a Senate vote in which eight Democratic defectors voted to break the filibuster and to clear the first hurdle to reopening the government after nearly six weeks. Their move will offer relief to millions of Americans whose lives have been severely disrupted by the shutdown.

This is civil war. Between the Saubders/AOC/Mamdami/OccupyWashington faction of the Democratic Party and the slightly less woke faction. One battle finished but the war is escalating. The fury is palpable.

A big fat “L” for the democrats. :tearsofjoy:
And for those Americans who rely on those health care subsidies to be able to afford health insurance.

But Republicans "promise" to allow a vote to permanently extend those subsidies, so we'll see how that turns out. Maybe this time Lucy won't pull the football away, right?

He’s too old for office. The Dems need to get people who are below 52 into their leadership positions.

So why make it sound like you're complaining? You should be celebrating the loss of health care subsidies for people very much need them, like the rest of the Republican party.

-- A2SG, "crumble" seemed like an odd word choice for something you were happy to see happen....

Yup, and health care costs are going WAAAAY up for a lot of people, thanks to Republicans and a handful of Democrats who aren't running for reelection.

If/when that turns out to be incorrect, it will not bode well for the Democrats who are up for reelection.

You think that Republicans will negotiate to extend the health care subsidies now that they got what they wanted?

I'm sure you won't pull that football away again, Lucy.

-- A2SG, just look at the person leading the party to see how honest and trustworthy Republicans can be....

It seems likely the Republicans will propose a more practical and restrictive program, and the Democrats will reject it.

Really? So far, the only health care plan that Republicans have come up with is the one the Heritage Foundation created, and that plan became the ACA. Since then, they've only had "concepts" of a plan, nothing more. If they had any tangible health care plan, they've been amazingly silent about it.

-- A2SG, and they voted against their own plan when the Democrats agreed to it....

And? It's not like Trump was some unknown variable, he was president for 4 years and both him and his opponent (who lost bigly) told us exactly what the plan was. If the Democrats can't bother to take the time to vote, then don't be surprised when those plans come true.

For illegal immigrants who don’t deserve healthcare is the main thing.

Yeah, I don't know why the handful of Democrats voted the way they did. Not like Trump has ever been shown to be trustworthy or honest, or there has been any indication that Republicans will negotiate in good faith.
