  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

This all reminds me of an old thread of mine, dealing with semi-precious gemstones......sort of. :sorry:

So frustrating! I took 13 pictures! Ugh! All too big.
Isn’t it amazing how a plain ordinary rock can have such beauty inside of it? I love me my sparkles!

We went to a science place today that had all sorts of neat things to see, do, and learn but when we got to their gift shop they had all kinds of stones including rough amethyst crystal stones that I was drawn to. As you know, many years ago I was dabbling in New Age stuff, especially the use of crystals, which I was interested in for meditation. I meditated with them some but mostly read about the subject. I’m just drawn to their beauty and I guess their mystery. I held a couple of the amethyst ones today but didn’t buy any. Is it against Catholicism to buy these and display them in your house under these circumstances if I don’t use them for meditation purposes?
To collect for beauty purposes is fine. Using them for pagan or superstitious purposes would be a sin.

You sound fine!

God bless

Yes they are mentioned in the high priest’s breastplate in Exodus. It’s also one of the foundational stones mentioned in the New Jerusalem. :)
Yes! That’s a good observation! I wonder why I didn’t remember that!

Im just afraid I might be tempted to meditate with them again or start believing that they can calm me down, which I think New Agers believe about amethyst. I think that according to them it’s supposed to be a calming stone.

I just took more pics. I don’t know what I’m doing wrong but I keep getting error posts. When I post here.
Sorry Faith. I don’t get it. I’ve posted pics before. They keep stating they are too large and I’m not sure how to fix it.

That’s ok. I am always having problems with the internet. But didn’t you say you have an amethyst one? At the risk of sounding New Agey, have you noticed feeling calmer with it around you?

No. Not at all. I just enjoy it as another specimen in my collection. No different than any of the others I have.

Then, in that case, don't buy them. Do what is best for you. :)
