  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

We went to a science place today that had all sorts of neat things to see, do, and learn but when we got to their gift shop they had all kinds of stones including rough amethyst crystal stones that I was drawn to. As you know, many years ago I was dabbling in New Age stuff, especially the use of crystals, which I was interested in for meditation. I meditated with them some but mostly read about the subject. I’m just drawn to their beauty and I guess their mystery. I held a couple of the amethyst ones today but didn’t buy any. Is it against Catholicism to buy these and display them in your house under these circumstances if I don’t use them for meditation purposes?

You can display them. There is nothing wrong with doing so. I collect geological specimens. I’ve posted some of them here. They are simply rocks and part of God’s creation. I’m also attracted to their beauty and the history of how these specimens were formed. They have no magical powers as New Age claims. Don’t let New Age beliefs rob you of the Lord’s creation. I remember you asking about a lotus once, because eastern religions used it in part of their symbolism. Same thing, it’s part of God’s creation. Would I go to a New Age shop to purchase one? No. I would not support the business.

Yes they are mentioned in the high priest’s breastplate in Exodus. It’s also one of the foundational stones mentioned in the New Jerusalem. :)

Flippin ridiculous this filter….

Bible study.org

Amethyst is the last gemstone listed in the third row of the High Priest's breastplate (Exodus 28:19 and 39:12).

Look up gemstones in the Bible.

Do you have any more pictures you could post here?
Of my collection? Or just in general. It’s hard for me to post personal photos unless I’m out of the woods.

There’s a nursery around here that has a big amethyst and a big clear quartz, I guess it’s called, for sale. A LOT bigger than the ones I saw today. The clear quartz has these crystal spikes sticking out of it that really reminds me of me of the crystals I saw at a New Age store back when I was into that. Are stones like that ok with Catholicism?

Back in those days my husband and I went into this New Age store a couple times and I don’t remember exactly what he said but even the salesman didnt believe that the crystals could do anything. My anxiety was really bad then and I was desperate to try anything to help myself, except taking more pills. This was shortly after my failed try at taking Imipramine.

When I saw the crystals in the nursery I assumed they were New Agey but to my knowledge, it’s run by regular people.

Ok.is You mom ok?
She had a pretty big patch of cancer on her face. We spent all day last Monday getting it removed. They had to go in 3 times after lab checks. But they think they got it all. She has a big Z shaped cut with stitches on the side of her face and part of it is really close to the corner of her eye. She had half of her head wrapped up. But it appears to be healing very well. We’ll know for sure tomorrow after we get the stitches out and see what the doctor says. :praying:

Sure! They are ok to have. As I said, God’s creation. You admire them because they are apart of that. God knows your heart. Those stones have no supernatural or demonic power. You can collect them simply because you enjoy them. I have stones with spikes too, it’s just the way they develop.

Completely understandable. You were grasping at straws out of desperation. But you know that these things have no power. If you enjoy the Lord’s creation simply for its beauty, its just that. Nothing more. Enjoy what the Lord has made and rejoice in it! Thank Him for it. :)

I’ll pray for her. I once had a basal cell carcinoma removed and it healed nicely. You can hardly tell the doctor did surgeryon my face.

Ok, thanks. Sometimes I fear that some New Agey power is what’s drawing me to them because everytime I see one I’m like “oooooooooh look! Aren‘t they pretty” Especially when the light makes them sparkle.
