  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Sure. If I just quit my job

Yeah. Like I said previously. My household can be "at or below the poverty level" if I were to legally divorce my wife and continue living with her. She would be legally left as a single, unemployed mother of four and just raking in all the benefits and subsidies while I just kept working my same home and bringing home the same income. This is the game that so many people are playing. This is the political incentivisation of the single mother. Heck, why should a woman not get herself knocked up by multiple men and rake in thousands of dollars in entitlements and child support? Would it not be foolish to get married and lose the additional income and subsidies? I will tell you that I personally have family members who are single mothers with multiple baby-daddies who refuse to get a job and live better than I do, who consider people like me a "sucker and loser" because they have manipulated the system more than I.
If you can make more money living on welfare than you can by working then your employer is screwing you over. Quitting and living on welfare would be the right thing to do if you can't get a better paying job.

Yup. Why do you think so many are against UBI? So people will have to take jobs with poor pay instead of holding out for better pay.

Somehow it’s Michelle’s fault these terrible parents never taught their kids to not waste food and make better choices for themselves.
Did you eat the lunches they served? I went to school and had lunch with my kids and grand kids. It was terrible food. I couldn't believe it. I had heard how the kids were tossing it away instead of eating much of it. After eating with them I understood why. I tossed half the food myself. We offered tge kids to send them food but its wasnt cool. As they got older we just gave them money so they go get their own.

As has been shown the majority of those on Welfare are either not working full time or not working period. There are very few people working full time long term who need these benefits. And an extreme minority of married people who do.

Which was my point. If you can make more money living on welfare than you can by working then your employer is screwing you over. Quitting and living on welfare would be the right thing to do if you can't get a better paying job.

And if you can't then take the welfare.
Okay, then give them a time limit to get a better paying job. And if they can't seem to find one, assign them one. If you are a healthy adult then theee isn't any reason you can't find a better paying job within a reasonable amount of time.

Right now it's mostly 60 months. 5 years? You have to be kidding me. If you are a healthy adult you shouldn't be in welfare any longer than 6 months. At least in today's economy.

That's a really good idea, but first you will have to convince the marginally employed that it's true.So far you seem to have convinced only yourself.

True. I think I could, but then I'm not running for office. And I think there are far too many people in America who would rather live off their neighbors than actually work. Even if salary was more than welfare benefits.

Let's take a look. The poverty level for a family of 3 with one parent and two kids is 26000 a year. That comes out to be around $12.50 an hour.

Waiters and Waitresses earn an average of 16.00 an hour without tips.

In food service and hospitality, average hourly wages are now the highest they’ve ever been. For example, non-supervisory hotel workers earned around $23.84/hour in early 2024.

So it appears that jobs that get you over the poverty line are quite available.

Going on job search sites you can.find tons of jobs that pay more than the poverty level.

The facts just don't support the idea that all these terrible businesses are just soaking their employees and paying them peanuts keeping them in poverty.

Even the full time worker at Wal-Mart earns typically $18 an hour. Which is $6 an hour over the poverty rate.

No you are not going to get rich on that, but you also aren't in poverty. And most people won't stay at that level either. I'm not claiming Wal-Mart treats their employees well. I think they've gone down hill since Sam died and his kids took over.

Most people dont make a career out of Wal-Mart unless rhey are in management. They work for a while and find something better. I know, because Ive had three.members of my family that worked there, and they had friends who worked there etc. But even at that they paid more than poverty wages for their full time employees.

People who arw working part time shouldn't be expecting full time salaries.
