  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Paul says Peter was one of the most revered Apostles.
Acts 15 Peter is clearly in leadership in the NT church council
1 Peter , 2 Peter, shows us that Peter is also a Bible author
2 Tim 3:16 states that ALL scripture is authored by the Holy Spirit

The role of the disciples is to witness. They are not trained to be theologists to begin with. Though later as led by the Holy Spirit, they learned to be theologists (and good Greek speakers?). Paul on the other hand, is a Pharisee born to be a good theologist. Paul's role is provide a theological foundation for Christianity. He weighs more on theology than the role of witnessing.

For that matter, Paul may try to correct Peter on some issues which Paul thinks are theologically critical.

2 Tim 3;16 scripture is not the result of a "very smart Apostle theologian" rather it is from God. That is why in Hebrews 3 when quoting the OT the text says "just as the Holy Spirit says" Heb 3:7 and then quotes David in Psalm 95:7
Paul on the other hand, is a Pharisee
true. But even he said that his teaching was not from men at all, but rather from God.

The same is true of Peter and all Bible writers of the NT

The Holy Spirit never corrects the Holy Spirit.

Paul was upset with Barnabas and John Mark, so much so that they could not minister together. But that is not the fault of the Holy Spirit. Each person in the group had free will. The Holy Spirit was not telling them to quarrel.

That warning in Peter's letter comes directly from the Holy Spirit as Paul points out for all scripture in 2 Tim 3:16

It is not simply "Peter coming up with something to say"

Nope. That is the Holy Spirit in 1 Pet 3:21

18 For Christ also died for sins once for all, the just for the unjust, so that He might bring us to God, having been put to death in the flesh, but made alive in the spirit; 19 in which also He went and made proclamation to the spirits ( now ) in prison, 20 who once were disobedient, when the patience of God kept waiting in the days of Noah, during the construction of the ark, in which a few, that is, eight persons, were brought safely through the water.

Through Noah the Holy Spirit was preaching to the lost people of Noah's day, IN Noah's day, DURING the construction of the ark. And the result was that 8 were saved, because only eight listened and obeyed.

21 Corresponding to that, baptism now saves you—not the removal of dirt from the flesh, but an appeal to God for a good conscience—through the resurrection of Jesus Christ,

Peter compares the waters of baptism to the waters of the flood that lift Noah and his family up while also destroying the wicked.

Peter says that baptism is the means of getting the lost to be rescued just as the ark in Noah's day was the method of rescuing the perishing.

Then you say Peter says that BAPTISM is. the means of. getting the lost rescued. <

So is it WATER. ??

In Eph 4:5 it says ONE LORD , ONE FAITH , one BAPTISM ??

ONE is HEIS in he Greek !!

And Eph 4:5 reads ONE // HEIS , BAPTISM , so what is. that ONE BAPTISM ??

read chapter 1.

10 As to this salvation, the prophets who prophesied of the grace that would come to you made careful searches and inquiries, 11 seeking to know what person or time the Spirit of Christ within them was indicating as He predicted the sufferings of Christ and the glories to follow

The is the Holy Spirit preaching the Gospel in the OT.

And that chapter 1 statement of fact is context for what we find in 1 Peter 3.
Then you say Peter says that BAPTISM is. the means of. getting the lost rescued. <

"corresponding to THAT, Baptism now saves you".

corresponding to WHAT? He is specifically talking about the flood and the ark and showing how it compares to baptism.

Acts 15 Peter is clearly in leadership in the NT church council

James was the one that made the final judgement at Acts 15, not Peter

Peter was afraid of the "men from James" after that council event (Galatians 2:12)

No, Peter was not "clearly in leadership in the NT church council".
