  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Fact... Trump is currently trying to locate funds to fund SNAP benefits that the Democrats took away.
Trump is now defying the courts and is refusing to fund SNAP, despite the FACT that funds to partially fund the program are currently available.

I know...Republicans should add a provision that $49 billion goes to fund Private and Home Schooling. Then, when the Democrats refuse, we can accuse them of hating education...

Congress already passed the bill.
It was signed into law.
The money is already there.
The president's job is to "execute the law"
And in this case to execute providing those congressional emergency funds to snap participants.
Why a judge has to basically force him to do his job tells you what kind person he is.
But again, unlike times before let's hope he doesn't choose to ignore this judge.

I mean holy moly.
Oops, spoke too soon. Trump just posted he doesn't plan on dispersing snap funds while the government is closed.

Unions demanding the Democrats to open the government:
  • American Federation of Government Employees (AFGE)
    • Represents over 800,000 federal workers
    • Called for a “clean continuing resolution” to end the shutdown
    • AFGE President Everett Kelley stated: “Both political parties have made their point… It’s time to pass a clean continuing resolution and end this shutdown today.”
  • Coalition of Major Labor Unions
    • Includes unions representing more than 2 million American workers
    • Urged Senate Democrats to vote for the clean CR (continuing resolution)
    • These unions traditionally support Democratic candidates but broke ranks due to the shutdown’s impact
  • Transportation and Airline Unions
  • Leaders from the Teamsters and Southwest Airlines Pilots Association publicly called on Democrats to accept the Republican bill to reopen the government

  • This shift created a rare rift between Democrats and organized labor, a group that has historically been a strong ally of the Democratic Party.
How much of their base are they willing to effect?

Congress has already passed the CR bill?
Do you understand that the Senate is part of Congress?

You; 'It's not the job of the President of the United States to provide benefits."

Why the contingency reserve? Congress knows that government shutdowns and budget fights happen. To prevent families from going hungry during those periods, lawmakers have set up multi-year contingency funds for SNAP. There is $6 billion available through September 2026 to be tapped “in such amounts and at such times as may become necessary to carry out program operations.” In normal times, these reserves are a backstop. In crisis, they’re supposed to be a lifeline. But as recent litigation has shown, USDA’s discretion in accessing these funds is not always clear-cut. --FINDLAW

The emergency benefits for snap are there and has noting to do with a CR.
It's the job of the president to execute disbursement.

The federal government's contingency reserve for SNAP will last only for November 2025, and only for partial benefits, as it will be completely depleted. Due to the government shutdown, the full $4.6 billion contingency fund is being used to provide about 50% of November's eligible households' benefits, as ordered by federal courts, and no funds will remain for new applicants or other needs after this month.
The whole fund being depleted to partially fund one thing is hardly wise.
What would be wise is for at least 5 democrats to vote that they agree that all federal workers and all federal beneficiaries should be paid. A simple vote of "yes" to the CR would accomplish that.
So far, they've continued to vote that nobody should be paid. It took a judge to overrule the Senate democrats when it comes to SNAP benefits.

So because we can only provide half a plate instead of a full plate people should starve until such a time as they are REALLY hungry? Talk about the perfect being the enemy of the good.

Clearly once this is over they need to appropriate more to the contingency fund.

Its obvious st this point the propeganda put out by the lame stream media and the Democratic Party is winning. There are more Amerucans who blame Republicans for the shut down. What i find interesting is about 20% don't know who to blame. There is around 7% difference between who blames Republicans and who blames Democrats. Then there is still 20% who don't know despite pretty much all of media blaming Republicans.

And this whole SNAP snafu false propeganda. There is so much deception from the media and the Democratic party making people think SNAP can be fully funded with contingency when it can't be. It can't even be funded for a whole month.

I dont expect the Democrats to ever understand its their parties fault, but I do hold out hope that the 20% will eventually figure it out and realize its the Democratic Party holding everyone hostage.

SNAP could be fully funded for as long as the shutdown lasts if the Republican leadership would allow a vote on a standalone bill to do so. There's only one party to blame for that not happening

We can go that route:

AI Overview

The SNAP reserve fund, or more formally, the SNAP contingency reserve, is an emergency fund appropriated by the federal government to ensure the continuous operation and funding of the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP). It is intended to be available for "program operations as may become necessary," particularly during funding gaps like a government shutdown or other unexpected circumstances.

For less than a month.

So we should just have a bunch of stand alone bills for everything? I mean we honestly could point to almost everything as very important. So lets just have a stand alone bill for everything we believe we should be spending money on.

I actually would support that. I think we have far too many things passed in big bills. I would much rather see a vote for everything on an individual.basis. Yeah I know it would make Confeess actually have to spend time in session. Well too bad. So if thats what you are for, Im on board.

Otherwise its only your pet project that you want funded because it what you think is important. Theee should be consequences for shutting down the government. Including harming your own constituents if thats what you chose to do. Which is what the democrats did. They shouldn't be able to shut down rhe government and then start funding the things they want funded. Its an extremely scummy thing to do.
